Hello, Is there a way to preserve hyphenated words in the html export? When exporting a document with ConTeXt, hyphens in the middle of words seem to be replaced by soft hyphens, which are not displayed by my web browser. Minimal example: \setupbackend[export=yes] \starttext co-worker \stoptext The resulting .html file contains: <div> coworker</div> (There is apparently a soft hyphen between ‘co’ and ‘worker’. The pdf seems to render correctly.) Cheers, Florent

How can a macro check how many items are in a list?

Suppose I have a macro like this: \define[1]\thisismylist{ This list has n items. \startitemize #1\stopitemize } And in the document it might have this: \thisismylist{\item cat\item dog\item tree } How can I make n display three, as there are three items? "This list has 3 items: 1. cat2. dog3. tree I will use this as a means to check if the description before a list needs a plural or not: Read the prompts below: - Do you think cats should be banned from university dormitories?- Should public schools provide free breakfast? And that way, if there is only one prompt, it changes the instructions to be: Read the prompt below: - Do you think cats should be banned from university dormitories? --Joel

Expected behaviour of \definelayout

Hello, I am new to ConTeXt and was trying to understand whether the following behaviour of \definelayout is expected. Consider this example, > \setuplayout[grid=yes] > \showgrid > \definelayout[odd][ > backspace=50mm, > width=90mm, > topspace=20mm, > header=0mm, > footer=0mm, > height=250mm, > ] > > \starttext > \showframe > \dorecurse{10}{\input knuth } > \stoptext which I compile with `context example.tex` (ConTeXt Process Management 1.06, current version: 2024.02.27 09:18, obtained via TeXLive 2024). While the document's layout updates on page 2 (at least, what's being shown by \showframe), the text is typeset using the previous (page 1) layout until it encounters the next \par. This repeats on the transition from page 2 to 3. I have tried to look for an answer in the following texts to no avail, - The layout guide: "It's in the details" - The "ConTEXt Mark IV: an excursion" - The mailing list: Peter Hopcroft chimed in with a similar issue in Dec 2022 (which I did not manage to replicate; it appears the solution was to enforce paragraphs at the layout change?) Is this just the expected behaviour of the layout engine or am I missing something in my preamble? I would very much appreciate your insights, thank you in advance! Louis

What is the current correct way to load fallback fonts?

It appears the way to define the fallback has changed many times over the years, and none I've tried works. I've confirmed I can make ConTeXt use my font "FreeSerif.otf", but I can't get it to appear as a fallback. Basically if the character can't be found in EB Garamond, I hope it will use FreeSerif.otf, but generally, I'm just using it for a couple special symbols. How do I correct his so it properly displays the symbols from FreeSerif.otf? --Joel

penalties

Hi folks, following today's update, \startsetups[grid][mypenalties] \setdefaultpenalties \setpenalties\widowpenalties{2}{10000} \setpenalties\clubpenalties {2}{10000} \stopsetups \setuplayout[grid=yes, setups=mypenalties] doesn't work any longer, I think. Can anyone confirm this. There is another problem (page break in the paragraph) that I have yet to verify. Greetings Thomas

compact fonts, fake slanted and \definefallbackfamily (LMTX only)

Dear list, I have the following sample: \enableexperiments[fonts.compact] \definefallbackfamily [mainface][rm][Dejavu Sans] [sl={style:regular, features:slanted},preset=range:greek] \definefontfamily [mainface][rm][Latin Modern Sans] %[sl={style:regular, features:slanted}] \setupbodyfont [mainface] \starttext αβγ9 some word others\\ \sl αβγ9 some word others \stoptext The only way to get slanted Greek is either not to enable compact fonts or to add fake slanted to \definefontfamily. I’m experiencing this with LMTX only (MkIV is fine). I’m using current latest (2024.11.01 19:19). Could anyone confirm the issue? Many thanks for your help, Pablo

overbraces in concrete mathematics - bug?

Hi, With the below, the overbraces appear too high (the underbraces are in the right position) \starttext \switchtobodyfont[concrete] \startformula \overbrace{a+a} \underbrace{a+a} \stopformula \stoptext Would appreciate if somebody can tell me if they see the same, or if this is a bug. Problem with Metapost

How to force section title to be on same page as some of the content?

Basically it quite simply is used to define a classroom activity for students to do. Each classroom activity contains: - A subsection title. - A list of recommended materials (like scissors, glue). - Instructions directed at the student. - Where student write their answers. - A list of requirements, how it will be graded. In testing, I found students are ALWAYS very confused by page breaks: If the assignment title, supplies, and instructions appear on one page, but the area they write/body is on the next page, split there by a page break, the students think the activity is missing. They cannot find the activity. So basically, I need to make it such that items 1, 2, and 3 must appear with at least the start of 4, even if its just the first problem in 10, and even if this means leaving a blank area on the page in front of it. How can I be so precise making sure the page break doesn't seperate the title from the start of the area where students write their answers? Adding page breaks before every activity isn't a good solution, it wastes paper. --Joel
