intent in \setupbackend

I have a 2022 version of ConTeXt which I have used for the last 3 years. It has no problem with: \setupbackend [format=PDF/X-1a:2001, intent=SWOP2006_Coated3v2.icc] Recently I set up a separate more recent 2025 version of ConTeXt, and I get an error with the above intent statement. If I remove intent entirely, everything compiles correctly. I don't understand a great deal about the 'intent' statement, so bear with my ignorance. For the most part, whatever I produce is printed in BW/grayscale, not color. Two questions: (1) what has changed with the latest ConTeXt that causes this error with that color profile? (2) If preparing for BW/grayscale printing only, should I be using a different profile? I am assuming I cannot simply omit intent= completely. Julian

fittingpage dimensions

Accessibility and typesetting with Context.

Hi Everyone, Following up after the side discussion during the meet-up call, here my ideas that can be useful in the accessibility context: 1. Understanding the broader context around the interaction of the PDF readers, screen readers and text-to-speech engines. 2. Drawing attention to the aspects of information that can be or cannot be expressed in different modalities. 3. Giving examples of content and its presentation or interpretation by the assistive technologies in everyday life. Last but not least, I was thinking about doing something like "Ask me anything" on the list to gather questions and do quick and slow responses. I am definitely very eager to try the maths case of preparsing and preinterpreting the tagged output. I will put a simple document to replicate that curious case of Chrome/Brave and Adobe Reader giving differentcontent to NVDA. The list is intentional, for it is a rather broad topic. I want to get the idea what is the most interesting for people in the wild. A side note about me: I had my first experience with Latex years ago, but got back to Context through Pandoc and Markdown. I am working on a book and needed something that gives me stable output and good editing experience. I am blind myself, and have some experience with coding or code reviews. Enumerations: How to place an itemized list's index above an item's contents?

Greetings, I have 365 short poems; one for each day of the year. I thought I'd wrap each month in an enumeration and use the item numbers as titles. My MWE raises several questions: How do I center an index above its item? How do I keep an index and its item together? How do I keep an item's text together? Here I've resorted to an ugly kludge where I wrap each item in a \start-\stopframedtext pair. What's the right way? Perhaps an itemized list is the wrong approach. Any suggestions would be appreciated. setups issue

I have the following command which I am using as part of \setuphead[chapter]: \define[2]\MyChapterCommand% {\framed[frame=on,bottomframe=on,leftframe=off,rightframe=off,topframe=off,align=middle] {\vbox{\headtext{chapter} #1 \blank #2}}} Together with the rest of the \setuphead[chapter] elements, it functions correctly, as indeed it should But as soon as I place the full description of the chapter head between a \startsetups.... \stopsetups (since I wanted to create a few different chapter possibilities as setups to choose from), the hashes in the above command cause an error. The error reads: You meant to type ## instead of # right?..... fatal error... Why is this? Julian

Typical font size and interline space for Adobe Garamond Premier Pro.

Hi Everyone, Adobe Garamond Premier Pro is a very popular font. Understanding that typesetting is both art and science it is not easy to find some neat guidelines on values for size and spacing for this particular font. There are threads on the web that mostly relate to self-publishing with regular text editors. I'm currently drafting a book using the 5.5x8.5 trim size, with typical outer margins of 0.5 inch and the inner one of 0.75 (including the gutter). Would you mind sharing the values for font size and any spacing adjustment for Garamond Premier? I am currently using 11.5pt for font size, and adjust spacing from the default 2.8ex to 2.9ex. Using whitespace between paragraphs set to small, in addition to the former values. It gives me roughly 35...36 lines per page. Thank you for your answers... Pawel

The showlayout command output is missing cutspace value.

Hi Everyone, I've noticed one thing while tweaking my layout. Namely, the \showlayout command output is missing the value for the cutspace. The values for margins, text area, and backspace is listed, but the mentioned cutspace. The documentation says that cutspace is equal to backspace when cutspace is equal to zero. We can obviously set it to the desired value. Listing it in the output would be useful and complete the values for layout keys when debugging. Sending it as a possible thing to consider. How to force indents to always appear, even after figure?

\starttext \setupindenting[yes, big, always] \input knuth \placefigure{...}{% \externalfigure[cow][frame=on, width=.6666\textwidth]% }% \input knuth \stoptext With the code above, you will notice that after the figure is placed, the next paragraph no longer gets an indent. My copy editor has warned that because my target audience is children, this will confuse them, so I need to make sure the start of a new paragraph always has an indent. I tried adding the 'always' detail to \setupindenting, see above, but that didn't help. What setting will make sure the start of my paragraph always gets an indent? Note, in my passage, I've marked every single paragraph with \startparagraph and \stopparagraph. --Joel
