Unicode normalization and Hebrew in ConTeXt

I am typesetting a document in Hebrew that includes pointing (e.g., vowels, shin and sin dots, dagesh, etc.) using ConTeXt. The Hebrew text that I want to typeset has been normalized into Unicode's NFC canonical form. It is well-known that the Unicode canonical ordering of Hebrew points conflicts with the recommended mark ordering of specific points based on their functions (see https://www.sbl-site.org/Fonts/SBLHebrewUserManual1.5x.pdf for more on this topic). Thankfully, many typesetting engines automatically reorder the points to ensure that they are combined according to the specifications of many fonts. I'm pretty sure that XeLaTeX is one of these, as it typesets Hebrew letters with multiple points correctly even when the Hebrew text is in NFC form. My question is, can ConTeXt with LuaTeX handle the same situation correctly? In the following minimal example, ConTeXt typesets pointed Hebrew correctly when the characters are in the typographically recommended order, but not when they are in Unicode canonical order: ``` %Setup Hebrew text font: \definefontfeature[f:pointedhebrew][default][ ccmp=yes, mark=yes, script=hebr ] \definefontfamily[hebrew] [rm] [SBL Hebrew] [features=f:pointedhebrew] %Set the body font: \setupbodyfont[hebrew] %Set up right-to-left alignment: \setupalign[r2l] \starttext %Characters after normalization, in Unicode canonical order (bet + segol + dagesh + final nun): בֶּן %A word with characters in typographically recommended order (bet + dagesh + segol + final nun): בֶּן \stoptext ``` I typeset this using ConTeXt version 2020.03.10, as released with TeXLive 2020. I got the SBL Hebrew font from https://www.sbl-site.org/educational/BiblicalFonts_SBLHebrew.aspx. According to the font's user manual (see the link above the MWE), the font should be able to combine the marks to form the correct glyph regardless of their order after the consonant, but that doesn't seem to be the case here. I also tried using the predefined "hebrew" featureset, but that did not change anything. Is there some other OpenType feature or featureset I need to enable to fix this, or is there some module or option I can include to get ConTeXt to typeset Unicode-normalized Hebrew as if it were ordered in the recommended way, like XeLaTeX does? I see that the uninormalize module is mentioned in the thread "XeLaTeX, LuaLaTeX, fontspec, unicode and normalization" on TeX Stack Exchange ( https://tex.stackexchange.com/questions/229044/xelatex-lualatex-fontspec-un…); can that be used with ConTeXt? img.scan in lmtx?

Hi, I use the lua function img.scan{filename}, but in lmtx I get "attempt to index a nil value (global 'img')", so I guess this got renamed or moved? HR

Undefined control sequence: \pdfpxdimen

The drops module uses the primitive \pdfpxdimen in a couple of places, but that is no longer defined in the current beta. What is the equivalent command now? Examples of usage: \pdfpxdimen1in\relax\divide\pdfpxdimen\numexpr\dropsparameter\c! resolution\relax % set actual pixel dimension Aditya

Blank page added after pagecolumns

I am typesetting a document using pagecolumns to ensure that my footnotes are set ragged-bottom in columns. I have observed some unexpected behavior whenever the last column on a page is left incomplete: a blank page is added at the end of the document. A minimal working example follows: ``` \starttext \startpagecolumns[n=2] \dorecurse{3}{\par\input zapf} \stoppagecolumns \stoptext ``` I typeset this using ConTeXt version 2020.03.10, as released with TeXLive 2020. Notably, if \dorecurse{3} is changed to \dorecurse{2} or \dorecurse{6} (so that the text ends in the first column of a page), then there is no problem. I have tried to fix this by specifying page=no in the \startpagecolumns arguments, but it did not change anything. Is there something else I am missing? Thank you, Joey

complete cover example

Am wondering if anybody has a complete example (explained below) of a book cover: front, spine and back. It doesn't matter how simple or complicated the example. Am one of those people who, once he sees an example, can generally work out the necessary adaptations. By a complete example I mean the kind of thing found here Creating a style file in ConTeXt | Random Determinism <https://randomdeterminism.wordpress.com/2009/10/21/creating-a-style-file-in…> where the writer explains things bit by bit but importantly, offers a summary of the code at the end. I probably don't need the lengthy explanation but the summary of code is most helpful - except that it is not about a book cover:-) As a relative newcomer to ConTeXt, I have found complete examples of something I want/need to do very useful. Of course, many such are on the wiki, but from time to time I need something else, and right at the moment I need a bit of guidance for a book cover, and an example might help. Julian

\placetable[location=split] reference ??

Hi, I would like to reference a table of the following structure. \starttext \startplacetable[reference=tab1,title={A table},location=split] \startxtable \startxrow \startxcell hi \stopxcell \stopxrow \stopxtable \stopplacetable In Table \in[tab1] \stoptext It has [location=split], which I need this because xtable doesn’t like to be placed without a split; and apparently neither does it accept the \placetable[ref]{...} syntax. However, the reference is now no longer detected. I can see that the split table’s caption is about to become "Table 1.a.", "Table 1.b" etc. and I appreciate that this is potentially a quite complex mechanism anyways, but if there was any chance to get a reference as “Table 1”, I would be helped a lot. On similar lines, is there a way to have “Table 1 (continued).” in the caption? Cheers Benjamin

Changing the font size in an environment changes the behavior of a macro
