img.scan in lmtx?

Hi, I use the lua function img.scan{filename}, but in lmtx I get "attempt to index a nil value (global 'img')", so I guess this got renamed or moved? HR

Undefined control sequence: \pdfpxdimen

The drops module uses the primitive \pdfpxdimen in a couple of places, but that is no longer defined in the current beta. What is the equivalent command now? Examples of usage: \pdfpxdimen1in\relax\divide\pdfpxdimen\numexpr\dropsparameter\c! resolution\relax % set actual pixel dimension Aditya

Outputting custom types in MKiv bibliography

Hello, I’m trying to create my first publication using ConTeXt mkiv. All going well except for the bibliography formatting. Previously I have used LaTeX, standard entry types in BibTeX, and custom output formats using Biblatex. My publication cites lots of historical sources, viz.: (1) Newspaper articles — currently stored as ‘article’ types in BibTex. (2) Archival sources (historic letter, some leather-bound volume, a catalogued box of old photographs, etc.) — currently stored as ‘unpublished’ or ‘misc'. I would prefer to store these (in BibTeX, buffer, lua, or xml) as custom types (eg. ‘newspaper’, ‘archivalItem’), create setups for how they are output and which fields I output. I found a ’newspaper’ type (and other non-BibTeX types) defined in publ-imp-apa.mkiv as: \startsetups btx:apa:list:newspaper \fastsetup{btx:apa:list:article} \stopsetups I hoped this would mean I could output something: Boxing. (1903, September 13). The Sunday Times, p.8 However, if I create an item of type 'newspaper’ and \cite it I get an output of all stored fields: newspaper: [day: 13] [journal: {The Sunday Times}] [month: 09] [pages:8][title: {Boxing.}] [type: newspaper article] [year: 1903] A similar thing happens if I try to cite the standard BibTeX type ‘misc’. If I store the newspaper item as type ‘article’ I get: “Boxing.”, The Sunday Times, 8, 1903. (missing day and month) Is it relevant that there is a problem when I include \showbtxfields[rotation=30] in my document? The resulting table has ‘*’ for fields in ‘article’, ‘book’, ‘demo-a’, ‘demo-b’ but the columns for ‘newspaper’ and ‘misc’ are empty. Any pointers gratefully received. Cheers, Mike O’Connor P.S. Third party modules in LMTX

I would like to use Wolfgang's t-letter module, but need some help. I found the following instructions: "The ConTeXt suite only comes with Taco's t-bib module. If you want to install a new module, say Wolfgang's t-letter module, you can use first-setup.sh --modules="t-letter" BUT, the LMTX standalone does not have any "first-setup.sh" shell script. Is there another way to install the "t-letter" module for use with LMTX? Any help is appreciated. Thanks Darel

Quick question about dual output pdf and epub

Hi Hust not to miss something or mess up every thing. Can i setup my document preamble such that i can without any switching create pdf and epub output at the same time. Want to provide my lecture notes in pdf and epub format. In other words does it have any side effects on pdf output, if i put \setuptoutput command preparing document for xhtml/epub output in my document preamble/main document? Or would i have to enclose this in some \ifelse conditional block? If is there a possibility to control condition from mtxrun command line? Best Xristoph

body text invades space for notes

Dear list, I’m afraid to admit that ConTeXt notes are increasily problematic for me. I don’t think this is special to me and I hope we can discuss the general issue. Bottom notes are somewhat tricky in ConTeXt. The user expects that these notes (either footnotes, or linenotes) aren’t moved to the next page. I mean, no reader expects to find a full footnote in the next page from the one that calls it. (At least, I have never seen that in any book read or paged through.) There may be good reasons for that, but ConTeXt doesn’t enable this by default. Both options "split=verystrict" and "scope=text" have to be used in "\setupnote". This translated in wrong space before notes when paragraph form was used. I was very interested to use these (line)notes for critical editions, but sometimes the text run into the notes. I’m afraid that left linenotes extremely problematic to be used. With the arrival of LMTX, space before footnotes is more problematic than before. No paragraph notes, see the attached sample (wrong-6.png). In other cases, ConTeXt seems to ignore totally that the page bottom contains footnotes. I cannot provide minimal samples. Consider that if it were so easy to reproduce, problably the issue would have been gone long ago. Even when one avoids the problematic bottom partition (which I did in that case by removing the "before" option from "\setupnote[footnote]"), there is clearly an issue with the footnote having its space before remaining blank from the body text (wrong-2.png). My first question is why the bottom notes have problems to preserve the space before them (and simultaneously remain in the same page where they come from). This applies also for paragraph notes. My second question is what can be improved to achieve what may be considered as a basic typographic feature. Sorry for not providing more than output samples. Bear with me. I may not be an expert user, but I think I’m a frequent ConTeXt user. And I don’t think it is totally wrong to consider this a basic feature that needs to be improved. Problem with shading when using rotation (Metapost)

One can for instance make the mp images independent (include mp code from a file) and then also make small independent pdf files from them that then can be converted to svg using mutool / mudraw. You can try that concept with \startMPpage some mp code \stopMPage If we're only talking of 'kind of stand alone images' (not backgrounds behind texts and other ornamental mp images) I can think about some mechanism that does that automatic. In the end much is possible (given time and reason) and often not even that hard to do.
