No virtuous deed goes unpunished. I have been using old-fashioned \font commands with Context because the other was just too confusing. But I htought it was time to ger religion. So I copied the following pretty much verbatim from a manual: \definefontsynonym [Serif] [Palatino] \definefontsynonym [Palatino][uplr8r] [encoding=default] \definebodyfont [14.4pt] [rm] [tf=Serif sa 1] ... \switchtobodyfont[14.4pt] ...and I get Computer Modern according to Acrobat Reader. ---------------------------------- But when I use this: \font\rm=uplr8r at 12pt \font\bf=uplb8r at 14.4pt \font\bs=uplbo8r at 17.3pt \rm I get the font I want where I want it. --------------------------------------------------- So what am I messing up in the first example? Hallo! 'makempy' uses 'acroread' as default under Unix. How can I change this, when calling makempy indirectly by texexec. gruß, Wolfgang

Hello, I compile a document with texexec --pdf --mode=<somemode> ..., and I want to access whatever is specified for <somemode> in the document as literal text. So if I run texexec --pdf --mode=screen ... I want something like "this document was processed in screen mode" to show up in the text. Hi all, I have definitely not been flooded by answers. I am getting the impression that this forum might not have been the best one to ask (i.e. I have a practical problem which has little bearing with implementation aspects / bugs / new features of Context). I have gone through comp.text.tex, but it seems to be heavily oriented towards latex. Would you have any other direction I could go to and get some assistance? In fact, what I would ideally like to do is the following: 1- Define a template with the boxes without any arrows. 2- Write numbered lists describing arrows that would be generated on top of the template. As a bonus question that should be easier. I came, I upgraded, I goofed.

I was concerned that I may have over time messed with my system too much. So I reloaded the the 2002 version of the TeXLive CDROM. Things worked more or less. Then I was concerned that I should upgrade to the latest Context. So I downloaded cont-en.zip from the site and unzipped it in my /usr/TeX directory. This is a Linux system. Now if I sign on as an ordinary user when I run texexec I get a "file access denied" message. NO clue as to which file is denying access. hi i have miktex 2.2 installed and wanted to run mptopdf, but when I use the newest version of "mptopdf.pl" it dosent work. the following error apperas: eftm=mptopdf: unknown option if i replace the file by another version everything works fine. what could be wrong here? greets severin

colo-ema defines X Window colors

Hello Hans, I noticed that the color def file colo-xwi is part of colo-ema. After a look in the source of colo-ema it is now clear, that colo-ema defines the X window colors. I wrote this color defs a few years ago for latex and converted them to context without looking in the origin file again. Sorry for that... So I suggest to rename colo-ema in colo-xwi (but it's your decision). I append a slightly changed version. Regards, Peter

horizontal scaling a glyph?

Hi. Again, I feel like I've failed, because I haven't found it in an hour's worth of looking through the source: Is there a nice ConTeXt-y way to define a glyph that's stretched a consistent amount? I'm not thinking of the letter-spacing \stretched macros, but rather a distorted character like the 'a' on page 427 of metafun-s (240 in metafun-p).
