Kudos to Patrick for pointing out what was wrong with my file--he helped me immensely, and I'm very grateful to him. The solution is: in addition to \clubpenalty and \widowpenalty, there is also \brokenpenalty, which enforces the good old typographical rule that no page should be broken after a hyphenated word. When I set it to 0, all my pages had exactly the same number of lines. Thanks to Patrick, and may others find it useful! Thomas

I woul like to know where I may find a complete list of symbols like $\Bbb{R}$ to use in context while I am typing maths. The main hurdle that I have today in change my personal typset work from latex to context is a lack of a reference manual in this area. Do you know where I may find one? If I use the \startfrontmatter cum suis then there is a numbered page after the TOC and the last page if even and empty is also numbered. Inside the \startbodymatter \stopbodymatter the emptypages at new chapters are empty pages with an empty header, thus no pagenumber. So if I use the recommended project structure I still have the generated-numbered-empty-pages problem at the end of each matter block. Does someone know how to avoid this, and how to make generated empty pages by default empty? Hans, you must know your child best, no? Steffen

Hi Willi, I hope that it can't be to difficult: Cause the page before a new chapter is actually completely empty JUST BECAUSE it is generated by (Con)TeX(t) - for chapters should begin on a right page. So I only ask for empty pages (without pagenumbers) that are generated by (Con)TeX(t). That's not possible in ConTeXt? Steffen

Three basic questions on alignment

May I add something to the previous "Alignment" thread? I have 3 cases where the usual command "align=left|right|... doesn't work: 1) \setuppagenumbering [alternative=doublesided,location={header,inmargin}] The page number is aligned left on a right page and vice versa. How can I change this to align left on left pages and right on right pages? (So the page number doesn't rag when flipping from page 1 to 100) 2) \setupheader[style=\MyStyle] \setupheadertexts[section][][][chapter] The chapter title behaves like the pagenumber. How can I change the alignment from inner to outer here? 3) \setupfootnotedefinition[location=inleft] The footnote's numbers here are aligned left, both on the left and the right page. What would be the command to align them right, with a constant distant to the note's text? In all cases I couldn't use align=left|right|..., so I guess there must be the same other syntax suitable for all three? Does anybody has an idea? Grazie, Steffen

Pagebreaks

Dear colisters, is there a way to tel Context to be dumb about pagebreaks? I mean to say "fill every page with the exact same number of lines, no matter what, regardless of clubs, widows, women and children"? Here's my setup: \setuplayout[lines=17,footer=0.7cm] \starttext \clubpenalty=0 \widowpenalty=0 Nevertheless, some pages are 1 or even three lines shorter than the rest (there are no tables, floats, pictures etc.). Can this be prevented? Thanks Thomas

Nach langem Winword-Leiden habe ich mich nun entschlossen für längere Texte auf ConTeXt umzusteigen. Aus Zeitgründen überlege ich, mir für den Umstieg Unterstützung zu leisten. Bevor ich bei uns an der FH Studenten dafür anspreche, versuche ich es hier über das Forum. Wer ist interessiert, gegen finanzielle Unterstützung bei folgenden Aufgaben zu leisten? - Unterstützung bei der Einrichtung einer TeX/ConTeXt-Umgebung - Beraten beim Layout für ein längeres Dokument - Bestehende Winword-Texte Schulungsunterlagen konvertieren und formatieren - Evtl. beraten bei Auswahl einer Digitaldruckerei Gruß Jörg
