outer floats on doublesided pages

Dear all, I have problems with the placement of floats. I need them to be placed in the outer edge of the text, but Context puts them in the middle of the page. The outer, inner, outeredge, inneredge, commands do not work. Right and left do work. Preferably the criterium option should also work, e.g. criterium=0.67. A minimal test file is attached. Try it out with a dummy, or with cow picture, or with any other picture of your liking. I updated my context installation today to a bèta version. The version is: 2013.08.30 02.05. When the second edition of the second volume was published, in 1976, the whole book had to be typeset again because the Monotype technology had been largely replaced by photographic techniques, and the original fonts were no longer available.[4] When Knuth received the galley proofs of the new book on 30 March 1977, he found them awful.[5] Around that time, Knuth saw for the first time the output of a high-quality digital typesetting system, and became interested in digital typography. The disappointing galley proofs gave him the final motivation to solve the problem at hand once and for all by designing his own typesetting system. On 13 May 1977, he wrote a memo to himself describing the basic features of TeX.[6] \placeedgefigure[][]{}{\framed[frame=off]{\externalfigure[cow][scale=150]}} He planned to finish it on his sabbatical in 1978, but as it happened the language was not frozen until 1989, more than ten years later. Guy Steele happened to be at Stanford during the summer of 1978, when Knuth was developing his first version of TeX. When Steele returned to MIT that autumn, he rewrote TeX's I/O to run under the ITS operating system. The first version of TeX was written in the SAIL programming language to run on a PDP-10 under Stanford's WAITS operating system. For later versions of TeX, Knuth invented the concept of literate programming, a way of producing compilable source code and cross-linked documentation typeset in TeX from the same original file. Breaks in TOC

Hi there, two questions about formatting the TOC or the titles in the TOC: 1. How to formate the titles different in the text and in the TOC respectively? I only mean line breaks. E.g., see this minexample: \starttext \completecontent \startsection[ title={Eine sehr, sehr lange Überschrift, die auf jeden Fall irgendeine Art von Formatierung benötigt}, label={Eine sehr, sehr lange Überschrift,\\die auf jeden Fall irgendeine Art von Formatierung benötigt}, marking={Eine sehr, sehr lange Überschrift,\\die auf jeden Fall irgendeine Art von Formatierung benötigt}] \stoptext That does not work, label and marking are the wrong keys for setting the TOC-Title, which have no effect on the title in the toc, which one is the correct key? 2. How to prevent page-breaks after some title in the TOC? E.g. I have a chapter title in the toc, and after chapter-titles there should be no immediate page-break. So I would need something like \testpage[10], but for the toc. How to do this? Thanks again. Huseyin

question about linespace adjustment

Hello, I'm working through the reference manual trying to understand how things work in regard to fonts. I'll be submitting clarifications and elaborations to the manual in an attempt to help other non-experts to grasp the design of ConTeXt. There's a point that's confusing to me in section 5.5, Line spacing. On page 108 of the manual it says "Linespacing alters when a new bodyfont is used or when linespacing is deﬁned explicitly by \setupinterlinespace (which is explained later)" But on the next page it says, "When you make a font switch the linespacing is adapted when you give the command \setupinterlinespace without any setup parameters and also when you add the key reset, for example..." So here's why I'm confused. When you change fonts, (a) does linespacing get changed automatically, or (b) do you have to say \setupinterlinespace? If (a), then why does the second quote above seem to say you need \setupinterlinespace to make it happen? If (b), then isn't the first quote above inaccurate? Is there a distinction being drawn here between "when a new bodyfont is used" and "when you make a font switch", or are those just variant phrasings for what is intended to mean the same thing? The core now has the simplefonts-turned-fontselector code included but only those present last week have the edge of knowing how to use it unless WS decides to reveal its secrets and/or LS undiscloses it by posting source code. What do \start and \stop mean?

I found \start and \stop referenced in the context reference manual (e.g. section 5.5). While \startXYZ - \stopXYZ pairs are discussed earlier, I can't find any place that \start and \stop (with no suffix) are described. They seem to be used like \bgroup and \egroup. Is that right? They are defined in core-sys.mkiv, but I can't figure out from there what they actually do. I'll contribute documentation for them if someone can tell me what they mean. Thanks, Lars

Find all words set into the margin

I use \definefontfeature[default][default][expansion=quality,protrusion=quality] \setupalign[hz,hanging] \usetypescript[times] \setupbodyfont[times,11pt] \setuptolerance[verystrict] Is there a command or a macro to find all occurences in a file (or projekt), where some word is printed into the margin? (Maybe because of bad hyphenation or something else.) - Would be perfect for manual check-up and corrections! Thanks. Huseyin

ConTeXt Meetings come and go

Hi all, We just finished the ConTeXt meeting in Brejlov. Once again, it was a great pleasure to meet in person. A big "thank you!" to Jano Kula is in order for organizing yet another flawless meeting! ---- Now looking forward; at the annual members meeting of the ConTeXt Group in Brejlov, the location for the next meeting (the eight one already) was decided, we will go back to the same place we were at in 2011. 't Sjetootje in Bassenge-Boirs, Belgium. Good food, nice beers, a quirky location and a very friendly host should make for a perfect return visit in 2014! Registration is not open yet as I have to figure out the correct pricing levels first and that will take a few months, but the date is firmly set already: Monday evening September 8 -- Saturday morning September 13, 2014 More news will be posted once it becomes available. fake feature “extend” behaving weirdly

Hi Hans, this got posted on the DANTE list today. \definefontfeature [quite_wide] [extend=1.5] \definefont [mainfont] [file:Iwona-Regular.otf] \definefont [widefont] [file:Iwona-Regular.otf*quite_wide] \starttext \mainfont {\widefont foo} %% comment this line and “bar” is fine bar {\widefont baz} \stoptext The example defines two fonts with the same base font. If the scaled variant is used before the regular one then the latter will appear scaled as well and the spacing (bboxes?) gets messed up. I suspect a relation to this old issue: http://tracker.luatex.org/view.php?id=829 but if I substitute “slant” for “extend” the behavior is different. Best, Philipp

PDF Transparency and ConTeXt

Hi, I have written up a question on TeX.SE: http://tex.stackexchange.com/questions/135543/pdf-colour-space-and-context Aditya mentioned that the problem with transparencies is that it is likely a known bug with Adobe Acrobat Reader: "I remember similar questions being asked in the past, and the conclusion was that it was a known bug in Adobe Reader." Has anyone else come across this issue and found a way to resolve it in ConTeXt? I ran into what I think is a similar issue with LaTeX and was able to resolve it using the following command in the preamble: \pdfpageattr{/Group << /S /Transparency /I true /CS /DeviceRGB>>} I have not yet tried to reproduce the problem in either LuaLaTeX or LaTeX.
