\placeinital special case

Hello, I came across a special case where \placeinital would need some tuning. (It was found in Eglinton, G. and Calvin, M. (1966) "Chemical Fossils", Scientific American 216, 32-43.) In the following minimal example, the period following the capital W should be dropped as well, being kept associated with the initial. \starttext \placeinitial W. H. Bradley of the U.S. Geological Survey has sought a contemporary counterpart of the richly organic ooze that presumably gave rise to the Green River shale. So far he has located only four lakes, two in the U.S. and two in Africa, that seem to be reasonable candidates. \stoptext This curiosity is by no means an important problem, and perhaps one can identify other such cases (but I have not thought much about it!). Fixing this is probably trivial or it might be a challenge depending on how \placeinitial is implemented (I have not looked into fixing it either). I only report this to help ConTeXt continue to evolve towards the highest quality computer typesetting available. Alan

Tabulator in database file not passed to Lua

Dear list, I use the database module to load the lines of a file with some data. The lines are then separated with a lua script. However, I thought this way I could use the tabulator as the separator in my file. But when I change the separator from ";" to "\\t", it doesn't work. I suppose this is because the tabulators are passed to Lua as spaces. Or is "\\t" the wrong code? Would it be possible to use tabulators as separators, if I load the file with lua and not with the database module? Kind regards, Joshua Krämer

setupalign and flushbottom

Dear list, according to the wiki and the ConTeXt manual, the ConTeXt equivalent for the LaTeX \flushbottom command is \setupalign[line]. However in my tests this setting doesn't have the desired effect. For example: \setuplayout[height=720pt] \setuphead[subject][before={\vskip4pt plus 1fil},after={\blank[small]}] \setupalign[line] \showgrid \starttext \dorecurse{3}{\input knuth} \subject{My Subject} \dorecurse{8}{\input knuth} \stoptext Here at the first page there is a small gap between the last line and the page border, although the glue above the heading can safely be expanded to make the page filled. However I do get the desired result if I replace \setupalign [line] with a low-level command (\alignbottom). Misplaced \widehat and \widetilde in mkiv?

Hi Hans, It seems that with the latest beta mkiv, version ConTeXt ver: 2014.01.23 01:55 MKIV beta fmt: 2014.1.23 \widetilde and \widehat in mathmode are misplaced (and this is so in any of the fonts I tried). Please compare the result of the following in mkii (where everything is correct) and in mkiv: %%%% begin tilde-hat.tex \starttext We set ${\widetilde n}(t) := n(1 - t)$, and ${\widehat u}(\xi) := \int_{{\Bbb R}}\exp(-{\rm i}x\xi)f(x)dx$. \stoptext %%%% end tilde-hat.tex The attached PDF is obtained with mkiv. Hi, Just some information: if you want to pass from pdf to html5, there is an amazing project I discovered: https://github.com/coolwanglu/pdf2htmlEX The "bad" things is that it does not preserve structures: each line is a structure in html5 generated document. Cheers, Xan.

Hello listmembers, ConTeXt ver: 2013.05.28 00:36 MKIV current fmt: 2014.1.6 I'm typesetting a book in A4 landscape and would like to indent the TOC at both sides. I tried two solutions which both didn't work as expected. 1. attempt with "\startnarrower[left,right] \completecontent[pageboundaries={0.1.1.5}] \stopnarrower": The output of the following minimalistic example is partly attached as .pdf file. I shortened there the textheight to 80mm. a.) I would expect the TOC to be midaligned. But it isn't. It is leftaligned. b.) I would expect the TOC stopped after the 5th subsection row at page bottom and to be continued at the next page due to "[pageboundaries={0.1.1.5}]". But it isn't. 2. attempt with "\line{\hfill\vbox{\hsize=.75\hsize\completecontent[pageboundaries={0.1.1.5}]}\hfill}", outcommented in the following example. The TOC is really indented at both sides, but it doesn't stop at all at page bottom. Something must be wrong here. But what? Hello, Thank you for your reply. I do not understand all of the code, even if I use MetaPost but with Asymptote. I would also fit the dimensions of my papers as I used to do (\usepackage [ a4paper, hmargin = 1.5cm, vmargin =1.5cm] {geometry}) Thank you.

new interface to simplefonts

Dear list, using the latest beta from today (ConTeXt - 2014.01.22 01:31) in Linux 32-bit, I cannot get the new simplefonts working. Here is the sample: \definefallbackfamily [mainface] [serif] [DejaVu Serif] [range={greek,extendedgreek},force=yes] \definefontfamily [mainface] [serif] [TeX Gyre Pagella] \setupbodyfont[mainface] \starttext \input knuth χαλεπὰ τὰ καλά \stoptext But I only get the font LatinModernMath-Regular.
