Some features of m-steps does not work in mkiv. special case to disable italic correction

Hi Hans, after reading the relevant part for italic correction in fonts-mkiv.pdf and enabling it in my documents, I have found a case in which the italic correction could be improved. My settings are: \definefontfeature[default][default][itlc=yes] \setupitaliccorrection[global,always] If I get it right, the italic correction should be avoided before points and commas (these are all the exceptions I can imagine for this case). The explanation is simple: the space is already at the base line, since at the glyph base, the inclination of the italic or slanted glyph makes the right side-bearing larger at the baseline. The issue with italic correction is mainly with ascenders or at the cap height, but I think it isn’t at the base line (or the descenders). Because of that I think it is important to disable italic correction before points and commas. MPpositiongraphic: I don't know when it's going to work and when it's not.

definefontfamily options for caps and capsbold fonts

Hi Wolfgang, with the new simplefonts interface I have two options that used to work with the old interface, but that don’t work now. Here is the command: \definefontfamily[mainface][mono][ryt1xtt][capsfont=ryt1xttsc, boldfont=ryt1xbtt, capsboldfont=ryt1xttsc] I get mono the bold font, but I cannot get mono small caps or mono bold small caps. Is alternative=simplefonts the right way to make them work? (They work fine with this option, but I have the impression of using old code.) Many thanks for your help, Pablo -- http://www.ousia.tk

runtime problem with metafun() code

Hi, I try to create a Metapost path in lua and it works so far for the attached example. But a call of that function from another lua function sadly fails (no path visible after call). The code seems to be executed later (the output from 'show pid;' appears somewhere later in the log). How can I ensure that the code is executed at runtime? Peter

Change the default text colour for entire document

Hi, In ConTeXt to change the default text colour for the entire document, there are at least two settings that need to be configured: \setupcolors[textcolor=red] \setupinmargin[line=13,color=red,style=slanted,] The border colour for tables remains black: \setupcolors[textcolor=red] \setupinmargin[color=red] \starttext {\bTABLE \bTR \bTD One \eTD \bTD Two \eTD \eTR \eTABLE} \stoptext How can you override *all* instances of black? (Ideally there would be a single setting that is inherited by all.) That is, it is difficult to know all the various aspects of a ConTeXt document that use the default black colour -- margins, body text, table borders, and possibly more that I don't know about. Thank you!

Does that mean that > url can actually used as a data field name? > Hi, I have struggled with Bibliographies and almost gave up, because of the non-standard, and changing, style requirements (like apa but different in details, with, moreover, three different styles for citations in footnotes: full data, a shorter version and a still shorter version, the latter probably (authoryear), but I'm still not sure). In the end I used for everything the category "booklet", which is less of a straitjacket than the other categories. It gives you the freedom to put some extra details (if needed) in the title and also to style the "author" the way you want (for example Last name, First name or Last name, initials, or Initials Last name or whatever you want.) You can also use urls there, as far as I know. For consistency you would still need a bibl style file, for which I used a tweaked version of bibl-apa.tex. (which is in ~/<context-minimal>/tex/texmf-context/tex/context/bib) And a last thing: I input not the BibTeX database but the .bbl which I generate separately. I can tweak that if necessary or to add specific features, like horizontal lines in the Bibliography for repeated author names. (Another requirement which I personally don't like). Maybe all this is rather unworthy of ConTeXt but it is comparatively easy to accomplish and it works. I hope it helps. Best regards, Robert Blackstone

Simpleton bibliography

A very recent (Jan 21) wiki article lists this example for a simple bibliography: ----------------------------- \usebtxdataset [mybibfile.bib] \setupbtxrendering [numbering=yes] --------------------------------- Now that is simple enough for starters. Question 1: What are the other options for \setupbtxrendering and what do they do? (In my world Bibliographies are seldom numbered.) Question 2: Suppose I want to follow a different standard, other than APA, such as harvard or Chicago or whatever: where do I code that choice and how? Are bst files still in play? Question 3: url is mentioned. Does that mean that url can actually used as a data field name? I am of the KISS persuasion (Keep It Simple Silly). All of furbelows and feathers that fascinate real experts are not my cup of code. Bless the real experts, without them there would be no TeX or Context, but I am not of their clan. All I want to do is: A: Create a list of books properly encoded in bibtex or similar style. Probably all the entries will be @book types. fallback font in new interface to simplefonts

Dear list, the following code doesn’t find the fallback font for Hebrew: \definefallbackfamily[mainface][serif][FreeMono-Bold][range={hebrew, alphabeticpresentationforms}, force=yes] \definefontfamily[mainface][serif][TeX Gyre Pagella] \setupbodyfont[mainface] \starttext ץ׃. \stoptext But the same font works with the old interface: \usemodule[simplefonts] \setmainfontfallback[FreeMono-Bold][range={hebrew, alphabeticpresentationforms}, force=yes] \setmainfont[TeX Gyre Pagella] \starttext ץ׃. \stoptext Am I doing something wrong here? \placeinitial after a heading

Hi, If I attempt to insert a drop cap after a heading while the paragraph indentation is enabled, I get the following effect: all lines the drop cap spans except the first one (e. g. second and third in case of n=3) get an additional indent, equal to the \parindent. For example: \setupinitial[font=Bold sa 4,n=3] \setupindenting[yes,1em] \starttext \section{Knuth} \placeinitial \input knuth \stoptext I suppose this is not the intended behavior :) The problem doesn't occur if I enable indenting also for the first paragraph after the heading, but in this case, of course, the drop cap itself is indented together with its adjacent lines. So the following workaround is possible: \setupinitial[font=Bold sa 4,n=3, hoffset=\parindent,distance=-\parindent] \setuphead[section][indentnext=yes] Nevertheless it would be nice if this issue could be fixed. Also, is it possible to explicitly apply case conversion commands to a drop cap?
