avoiding space on top of a page

Ahoi, I configured my section titles to have a line of space (\blank[big]) before and after the title. But if the section starts on a new page, the title should start in the first line. I couldn’t find the right combination of \blank options... \setuplayout[grid=yes] \setuphead[section][ page=no, style={\bf}, before={\testpage[4]\startlinecorrection\blank[medium,back]}, after={\blank[small,max]\stoplinecorrection}, ] (Please find working example attached.) Midsentence alias

Dear gang, Midsentences in the ConTeXt sense are quite common. Is there an analogous symbol for a midsentence, which requires a mark only at its beginning? If not, how can I make a private one? For example: This is a sentence that ends in a midsentence|<>|Here is the midsentence. How can I properly define |<>| to be an alias for \midsentence, in a way consistent with the rest of the subsentence mechanism? Note: Could only find one reference to midsentence in the sources: lang-ini.mkiv, line 354 If this is not already supported, would like to propose that |<>| be added to ConTeXt as an alias for \midsentence. BTW: It may appear that one can just use |<| to mark a midsentence, but then the next subsentence in the document will be treated as a nested subsentence. Thank you in advance! Dear Otared, As you said, it is working well. However, the numbers 1, 4 located at the top and the bottom of the integral sign which is not usual in math. I have seen a discussion about such an output, but I may not see the result which I want. As you see in the following example, only the 1st and the 2nd gave the output which is usual in math. Is still there no way to make nice output using “\startformula”? Thank you. placing a wide float at the bottom

Ahoi, while \placefigure[bottom]{}{\externalfigure[hacker][width=\textwidth]} works just fine, I get "top" placement with \placefigure[bottom]{}{\externalfigure[hacker][width=\paperwidth]} I.e. if the figure exceeds \textwidth, bottom placement fails. I’m actually trying to place page wide images including bleed. I’d guess this is a bug. Or can I do anything about it? Bug with module pgfplots ?

To \getbuffer or to \input: which one is it better?

Hi all, In a project using the \setvariables command of ConTeXt, a file containing more than 200 instances of a structure resembling (but with much more fields…) \setvariables[talk] [speaker={Dr Some Speaker}, title={Some title}, room={Some Room}, ] is input several times, in order to extract from these variables one or more informations to be typeset, for different types of documents. However I don’t know whether this is a wise solution, or is it better to define once and for all a buffer and then use the \getbuffer command for each of the different uses in my global document. For now, unfortunately, I cannot come up with a minimal example because the question I am asking is about a real situation where nothing is minimal. That is why I am asking a general abstract question to understand the general philosophy underlining the buffer commands versus the \input command. Thanks in advance for any hint: OK

Unexpected emergency stop

Dear all, After some time I’m back to ConTeXt and I dug up some old macros. I used to define a \see macro to automatically insert labels like “chapter”, "figure" etc. in front of a reference based on the structure of the label. Below you'll find its definition. It worked in MKIV about two years ago, nevertheless, now ConTeXt hangs when placing punctuation after the command. I.e. TeX hangs with an emergency stop (“*" on the terminal) after all files have been processed (after cont-yes.mkiv is closed). What am I doing wrong that such a thing happens? I’m on macOS 10.13.3 with minimals beta 2018.02.09 00:04. Hi Otared, Thanks for your response. In mkii this worked flawlessly. I tried it in mkiv Texlive too (2017.05.15 21:48), but it does not work. Could this be because I have item [it:ref] rather than \startitem[it:ref] … \stopitem? Anyway, I will install a new standalone - on my Mac (no TeXShop). bug with special hyphenation?

Dear list, I have been experiencing an issue with the new hyphenator for months (or maybe almost a year), but it took me a while to discover what was triggering it. (I have mixed the code from different samples that Hans gave me in replies to diverse questions.) If I use the \sha command right before a point, I get: - Only the first and the last character from the especially-hyphenated text are formatted with the monospaced font. The other ones are formatted with the Roman font. - The point outside the command is formatted with the monospaced font, instead of the Roman one. - It might be possible that hyphenation could behave wrong in this case. The simplest way to avoid the issue seems to be to use a zero-width space. Have I hit an issue with the new hyphenator, or am I simply missing somehting?
