Context will place figures right or left. However Context will not AFAIK fit text to an irregular illustration, or around an arc etc. TheTeXbook describes a very tedious command: \parshape (p101) which could allow one to fit the lines to an illustration, arc etc. by hand. This is true whether the item is a chapter and included automatically or I use the "write" commands to do it manually. Here is a dummy file: \pdfoutput=1 \starttext \chapter{foo} \completecontent \chapter{bar} \stoptext When I run the above file the TOC will have a header but no contents. If however I comment out \chapter{foo} then chapter bar appears in the contents. I have also tried the write etc. commands and if they appear before the \completecontent command then the TOC blanks out. This may be a function of The general TeX procedure to write out the items on one pass and bring them in on the next. The write to \chapter{foo} may reinitialize the external file when it is encountered on the second pass. According to the TeXbook the write occurs when the page is shipped out. So \chapter{foo} probalbly clobbers the external file. Still the TOC mechanism should be developed in a way that it is possible to incorporate items occurring before the TOC in the TOC. This is not an uncommon requirement. A cure might be to move the external file to a different file name at the end of each pass in texexec, and bring in that copy of the file instead of the original external file to create the actual TOC.. That way any premature references would not go to the copy but to a new original. Pehaps Hans could rewrite the texexec or the Content macros themselves to do this. In pseudocode of sorts it would work like this: \starttext \chapter{foo} =write to filea \placecontent= read from fileb \chapter{bar}=write to filea \chapter{alpha}=write to filea (etc.) \stoptext. copy filea to fileb end -- John Culleton Able Typesetters and Indexers

Sorry if this is answered in a manual somewhere, but I can't seem to find it. Yes I have tried looking in ALL the docs, but can't seem to find anything that helps. I am looking to switch macro package from Latex to Context. Up until now I have used the \usepackage{palatino} to get all pdf files generated using Palatino. This has been working fine. Figures flowing past end of section.

Hi, Subject say some, let me elaborate to make myself perfectly clear. I have a few figures at the end of a section, right before the start of the next section. The figures however end up in the wrong location. I've seen various permutations of the following: figures are placed in a location where they don't fit (with the figure starting below the lower margin and only 50% fitting on the page) and an empty page-end, followed by the section title, followed by one figure below the title, and the second figure (on yet another new page) ... Are there commands to flush the figures, or is there another, more elegant solution? Which part of the setup would you need to see to help me solve this issue? I want to typeset a book with chapters and sections, but with no numbering, either on the chapter heading itself or in the TOC. I do want both chapters and sections in the TOC. I prefer the dotleader layout (alternative=c). I have spent two days now chasing down blind alleys. What is the shortest way to achieve this goal? -- John Culleton Able Typesetters and Indexers

"Text flows" under columnsets

Hello ConTeXters, First, I'd like to thank Hans, belatedly, for the columns.pdf manual which I have been happily using. Column sets are one of the main reasons that I have enjoyed working with ConTeXt so much, and having a manual makes them much, much easier to figure out. Second, I would like to ask if "text flows", which are introduced in the manual, are implemented at all. When I attempt to use the examples, ConTeXt complains about the macros not being defined. Searching through the sources also fails to find anything. I am using the latest beta. Are they only defined in the dutch interface? Any pointers at all would be helpful. Regards, Erik Hetzner

\setupwhitespace[small]

Dear ConTeXtnicians I am trying to track down something which causes \setupwhitespace not to work as expected in my document. Minimal documents work correctly but my complex handbook document has been affected. What other commands might cause \setupwhitespace to malfunction. \setupwhitespace[small] does not appear to work. It seems to give the same result as medium. none gives none, 3pt does not give 3pt but instead prints 3pt as though it was text, big does give slightly bigger than medium but not as much as it should. some questions about logo and margin background.

Conversion LaTeX -> ConTeXt

Hello there, I am starting to move away from LaTeX to ConTeXt and was wondering if some ConTeXt users have written scripts to convert LaTeX documents to ConTeXt documents. Or perhaps just partial conversions, for example from a LaTeX tabular environment to a ConTeXt table. Also I would be interested in layout definitions which could replace the LaTeX article and NTG brief layout, as a starting point for further customization. Best Regards, Frank Sonnemans
