m-unit and extra information for a unit.

Hi TeXnicians, I'd like to have an extension to the units module (I don't mind cooking something myself, but a pointer where to start would be great). In my thesis I will encounter some weird units (one is displayed below, it not the worst, but it comes close). I'd like to produce a list of units, but just the symbol and the actual unit is not really enough, I need room for a description. Ideally this description should be given at the definition of the unit. What I have now is sort-of in between, code shown below. Since the unit module is based on synonyms, I probably have to extend those, but I'm afraid that I really don't understand that code... My current method should work, but it requires a double definition (unless someone comes up with an idea how to define (double if I have to) in one place, and put the resulting list in another location). Ideas? Thank you! Problem is solved, after adding swap-space, though I wonder myself why pdfetex could run under my old (debian original) configuration? Anyway, it works now. Wolfgang

About Big-5 Traditional Chinese

Dear all, ConTeXt has Big-5 Traditional Chinese build-in(thanks :), but I can't let it work normally. Because of the `\' and `}' character in Big-5 charset. For example, Big5-0xB35C(uni8A31), Big5-0xA55C (uni529F) and Big5-0xB67D(uni958B). I use ttf2pt1 to produce *.tfm, *.enc and *.map file for ConTeXt, and use default Poorman's Chinese encoding, I can let the pdfetex grasp TTF directly, but I don't know how to escape `\' and `}'. My system, Slackware Linux 8.1 teTeX-1.0.7 pdfTeX (Web2C 7.3.7) 3.14159-1.00b-pretest-20020211 ConTeXt: TeXExec 3.2 - ConTeXt / PRAGMA ADE 1997-2003 I change font-chi.tex to use \TraChi default, and change to my Arphic public font`bsmi00lp'. I attach a simple test file(in Big-5 encoding). Did I miss something? Thanks for the help. Edward

Why isn't my space a space?

Hello, I'm trying use pretty printing Java inline. To get my keywords in a slanted typeface, I've found out that I need a space before and after the statement I'm typesetting. I'm trying to automate the space in a macro \Java[], but am having no success. I believe I'm typesetting a space before and after my statement, but the space isn't acceptable to the \type macro: ----- \definetype [typeJV] [option=JV,palet=graypretty,style=\ttx,icommand=\sl] \def\Java[#1]{\typeJV{ #1 }} \setupcolors[state=start] \starttext This statement should have inserted spaces, in order to trigger the slanted behaviour in the `import' keyword: \blank[medium] The ``\Java[import java.io.File;]'' statement \blank[big] This is the type of typesetting I would like to automate: \blank[medium] The ``\hskip-0.5em\typeJV{ import java.io.File; }\nospace{}'' statement. \stoptext -----

about encodings and fonts

Hi ConTeXticians, I'm new to ConTeXt, after almost two years of experience with LaTeX, and also new to the list. I use W98SE as aperitif system and the MikTeX total distribution. My questions are rather simple: -which command should be invoked to set the input enconding to utf-8 (if this is possible)? -how can I make that the output is generated using T1 fonts? I mean the ConTeXt equivalence to LaTeX \usepackage [T1] {fontenc}. -after above questions, I'd like to know whether it is any kind of documentation that explains ConTeXt to LaTeX users. -I don't know why, but my ConTeXt installation seems not to be able to use another font than cm. (I know that MikTeX has change the font map maintenance file early this year.) Is it required to install the fonts 'twice': once for the TeX system and another time for ConTeXt? (I mean, what am I doing wrong?) -after having read the mtexfont.pdf, I wonder whether it is possible to use TrueType fonts directly with ConTeXt? (I'm mainly interested in Unicode fonts that also have Greek and polytonic Greek, which I also need to use.) Thanks for all, Pablo

Hi ConTeXters, I found a couple minor regime/encoding bugs in current (and past) ConTeXt. In the files regi-il1 and xtag-ent, \THorn should be replaced with \Thorn . In the file enco-ans (for texnansi), Eth is missing. It's in the same place as with ec: \definecharacter Eth 208 \definecharacter eth 240 If I understand casemaps correctly, then enco-ans should include eth and thorn also: \definecasemap 240 240 208 \definecasemap 208 240 208 \definecasemap 254 254 222 \definecasemap 222 254 222 ...but following the ec example, I think something like the following will help catch most characters, and clean up the file (untested): \definecasemaps 192 to 214 lc +32 uc 0 \definecasemaps 216 to 222 lc +32 uc 0 \definecasemaps 224 to 246 lc 0 uc -32 \definecasemaps 248 to 254 lc 0 uc -32 tsjiers, adam -- =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Adam T. How to prevent a page break before a \startformula, and more

Hello. I many of my documents I use \startformula and \stopformula to get displayed mathematics. But I would like to be able to discourage ConTeXt to insert page breaks just before \startformula. Is there any easy way to do this? Also, how do I make \lim behave as \lim\nolimits in inner math (between $ and $) mode and as \lim\limits in displayed math mode (between \startformula and \stopformula)? I known that the following code works. \let\oldlim\lim \def\lim{\ifinner\oldlim\nolimits\else\oldlim\limits\fi} But is there some other way? The Context styles library.

I am going through the Context styles library (colo-ini.tex and friends) to figure out what the various files do. A portion of them come with sample demo code and a smaller portion of the demos work on my system. Am I reinventing the wheel? Is there a document somewhere that says: ``This is what these examples are all about''? I know that there are comments at the head of each file but these can be a bit terse. Not a priority question :-) John Culleton
