Hello, unfortunately, \synchronizeoutput does not help here. I also tried things like "\placetable[bottom]" but no luck... help needed with difficult document structure

Hello, I'm having a little bit of problem with the document structure of the project I'm currently typesetting. It's kind of a scientific magazine that consists mainly of independent articles. The articles use \section and \subsection and should have their own numbering, as well as for the caption numbers and such. Oh, and the article's internal sectioning should not appear in any table of contents. At a higher level each Article has it's title (and author) and groups of articles are put together in categories ("Studies", "Documentations", "Focus articles"). These Categories and the Article Titles should appear in the main TOC: Studies On This And On That John Doe ................... 7 Another Study B. E. Ginner .............. 10 Focus Articles A Focus Article N. Ewbie .................. 15 Documentation Content of Documentations . 19 Europe .................... 20 Asia ...................... 23 America ................... 37 Africa .................... 42 and so on. Chosing \part level for categories and \chapter/\title for article titles comes to mind, but \chapter influences \section numbering ("2.1") and \title doesn't reset all those counters, leaving alone the problem of getting the author into the toc. I guess I'll have to do this one by hand. To make things even funnier there is the documentation part, which has two levels of unnumbered sectioning, of which the first level goes to the main TOC and the first and second go to a dedicated documentation TOC directly preceding that part and listing first and second level: Documentation Content Europe Germany ............... 21 Netherlands ........... 22 Asia China ................. 24 and so on. Now I'm a bit unsure how to implement this cleanly in ConTeXt. I've already done it for LaTeX (from which we are switching because of ConTeXts superior layout abilities). I simply used two additional toc files for that. In Context I even don't get unnumbered sections in any toc :( (but maybe I'm just a bit over-tired...) I cannot expect a ready-to-run solution, but any hints or "best context practices" would be highly appreciated! Yours sincerely, Karsten

Multi-page table and lengthy caption

Hello, In my field lengthy table captions are common. The attached example shows two problems I have with the multi-page tabeling I made work with the help of the included patch from Hans: 1) the table splitting does not calculate the right height for the caption - the table is too long for the page. 2) captions of this caliber should only appear together with the first part of the table and should be replaced with 'continued' or nothing when appearing with further parts. I would greatly appreciate any advice on how to fix/achieve these two issues. Thanks, Joh

Two Problems: Colored Chapter and Footnote positioning

Hello, I'm facing two problems. The first one has to do with the fact that if I use \color[darkblue]{\chapter{Capitulo 1}} the line with \setuphead[chapter][header=empty] seems to be ignored because the chapter page gets the header too. I'v attached an example in the file "capitulo-cores.tex". The second problem has to do with the fact that in the attached file "footnote-posicao.tex" I changed the layout of the page, so that I could have a bigger right margin. The problem is that I would like to have the page number centered on "the page" and note on the new dimensions of the text area (don't know if I' been clear but I think you will understand if you look at the attached file). In fact I have a third problem that is the fact that the page number is repeated. I don't want to remove the line \setupfootertexts[][\setups{t_footer}] because I want the footer in 10pt. Thank you! using \doifmodeelse the right way

Hello, \externalfigure[prefix-\doifmodeelse{blub}{blub}{notblub}][width=0.5\textwidth] does not work. I tried some combination of \expanded, \unexpanded, \expandafter etc but without success. In the end, I write: \doifmodeelse{blub}{% \externalfigure[prefix-blub][width=0.5\textwidth]}{% \externalfigure[prefix-notblub][width=0.5\textwidth]} Is this the most elegant way, or do you know better? texexec is very coy

When texexec doesn't find a program or a file, it doesn't complain loudly. In this output from a recent run extra program : dvipos z total run time : 3 seconds texexec went looking for 'dvipos'. I didn't suspect any problem since I didn't know that it wasn't installed (and hadn't heard of it until a few hours ago). An error message like this would be useful:: extra program : dvipos z ERROR: Could not run 'dvipos' total run time : 3 seconds Perhaps at the end of the run repeat all those error msgs (otherwise they gets buried in all the output). A similar message would be useful when the tex file itself doesn't exist: $ texexec nosuchfile.tex TeXExec 5.4.3 - ConTeXt / PRAGMA ADE 1997-2005 fixing engine variable : pdfetex total run time : 1 seconds Eventually I learnt that a run time of 1 second meant I'd mistyped the file name, but a message would be useful (and more helpful than prompting for the correct filename: I like Unix programs to not ask questions). -Sanjoy `A society of sheep must in time beget a government of wolves.' - Bertrand de Jouvenal
