Hello all! I'm trying to put labels on figures by following the mlabels manual. I cannot seem to get even a simple example to work because the command \startfigurelabels is not recognized. I am not sure whether I should load a module for this feature. Any help appreciated, Peter

footnote numbering

hello I insist in a question: I have: \setupfootnotes[way=bychapter] but it doesnŽt restart the footnote numbering at chapter. But if I write: \setupfootnotes[way=bysection] It does restart each \section. Is the sintax ok? What iŽm doing wrong? The last book iŽve fix it inseriting fake and empty chapters, but now it doesnŽt work. runMPgraphicstrue produces undefined figure

I'm playing with simple files in order to learn metafun. The following small example produces an undefined figure. It illustrates either a context problem or, more likely, a confusion on my part. ================= cut here =========================================== \runMPgraphicstrue \starttext \startreusableMPgraphic{a} fill fullcircle scaled 2cm; \stopreusableMPgraphic \placefigure[here,none]{}{\reuseMPgraphic{a}} \input tufte \stoptext ================= cut here =========================================== The figure is a square saying 'undefined'. Taking away the \runMPgraphicstrue line produces the expected filled circle. spaceinbetween (TABLE)

Hi, the TABLE paramter 'spaceinbetween' doesn't work, if you use it combinations with split=repeat. This is not a beta only problem, as the verson from 08.08.2006 shows the same behaviour. Dear everyone, My Operating System is Ubuntu 6.06,I now use the context combined with cjk 4.6.0 shipped with texlivetest2006-live-20060215.iso to support chinese charaters ,when I use the command: texexex --pdf my_file.tex,I can obtain the ultimate pdf files , but when I use the command: texexec --output=dvipdfm my_file.tex, though I can obtain the ultimate pdf file ,but when I hit the hyperlinks in the pdf files ,the error message happen as follows:"Unknown destination type 'View'".So the pdf file is bad for presentation,why dose this happen? "Update ConTeXt" + standalone distr (Windows)

With my new work computer I finally gave up on my old but working ConTeXt in TeXLive2004 and upgraded for good to the standalone distribution, run on hard disk. One of the new things I found in the Tools menu was the 'Update ConTeXt' command, so today, when I'm *not* in the middle of a urgent project, I decided to try it out. Good news: for the first time in my ConTeXting career, I managed to update my system without reinstalling the whole thing. And the very new ConTeXt version (today's?!) compiles my ever-important manuals without complaints. Somewhat bad news: without fiddling, the updating gets stuck at unzipping after downloading, because 'unzip' is not in the path and that's it then. So it is not quite on 'Windows dummy' level yet, although real close. Note, though, that the standalone distribution I use is about four weeks old, I might be complaining about something that's already fixed! How I solved it: just today, I dug out an old tool and learned that it ain't gonna work without cygwin. Installed Cygwin, dumped the tool in the bin directory - and realized, that my cygwin/bin also contained a file called 'unzip.exe'. Putting it (cygwin/bin) into my Windows path didn't help (not a recommendable operation for standard users anyway), but then I realized that 'standalone' really is standalone and copied 'unzip.exe' to where my ctxtools.bat lives, i.e. \ConText\usr\local\context\tex\texmf-mswin\bin - and presto, the update went through. It seems to me that it even generates formats on the fly, so with one mouse-click I can get the most up-to-date ConTeXt. How I think this might be solved: In the texmf-mswin\bin directory, there is a 'gunzip.exe'. If I remember correctly, gunzip is fairly simple to use, so this might just mean a change somewhere in the stand-alone package so update would use gunzip to unpack the update files. Or, as it seems to me that different types of 'unzip.exe's are public domain stuff, just include that in the standalone distribution and everything works (no other changes were needed, just bringing 'unzip.exe' into the correct directory. I really like the standalone distribution. Of the many ConTeXt variations I've used until today's date, this year's standalone has been the most Windows-minded and most Windows-friendly in many ways. It works out-of-the-box (has less options to uncheck than Word), seems to live happily even under C:\Program Files and has a logic that I as a non-programming Windows power user find easy to follow. I no longer need to refer to the manual to get as far as to compile a test pdf with standard postscript fonts, now I can concentrate on the layout, not the innards of TeX. So, even though there are slight blemishes and wrinkles to be ironed out like this update thing, ConTeXt in Windows is definitely becoming a nice package for those of us who find that Word just doesn't do what we want. :-) Mari

index formatting

Hi all, there is a problem with index formatting (I'm using the latest beta, but have no idea if this was always the case or has been introduced recently). My index is in two columns (the default, I believe). If an item has several references, the lines doesn't break, but continues into the margin or into column 2. Lines do break after the en-dash at index ranges, so it looks like the space after the comma is non- breakable. It's difficult to make a minimal example for that, but what I see is this: Virgil 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 instead of Virgil 1, 2, 3, 4, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 Best Thomas

the closing bracket (structuring syntax)

Hi, in XML and alike there is a concept of dedicated start/stop in formatting: <begin heading> ... <end heading > <begin footnote> ... <end footnote > <begin italic> ... <end italic> But in ConTeXt/TeX we have always the same closing syntax "}". That makes reading the code not easier. Is there a workaround to define the closing more precisely (like the examples above), so that finding a "}" in a ConTeXt source lets me distinguish what it's about? But in such a way that the file still can be processed as a regular ConTeXt file? Steffen

String single quote in \tt

Hi, I just noticed that in the preprocessing manual, the single quotes are wrong. Look at the output of \starttext \starttyping let a = 'string' ; \stoptyping \mono{ let a = 'string' ;} {\tt let a = 'string' ;} \stoptext The singlequote character is converted into rightquote. This "feature" is also present in plain tex and Latex. rightquote string rightquote does not look good in program listings. Isn't there some way to turn off these intelligent quotes in \tt? Aditya

When I compile my documents with the new version of Context (beta) I get the following error (see below) with some of my metapost code which uses \sometxt. Does anybody knows how to fix this ?
