Hi all, I am pleased to announce that the new ConTeXt release from Hans Hagen can be downloaded as of now from the Pragma ADE website or one of its mirrors. http://www.pragma-ade.com/context/current/cont-tmf.zip http://context.aanhet.net/context/current/cont-tmf.zip http://mirror.contextgarden.net/context/current/cont-tmf.zip The current release has version 2007.01.18 A very short list of changes is given below. As usual, there is an html page with more detailed release notes available on the Wiki, see: http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Release_Notes Two important caveats apply to this release: * ConTeXt has switched to Latin Modern for the base math fonts as well. If this gives you problems with missing metrics, then your latin modern font package needs to be updated. In case your TeX installation does not have an easy update solution, the LM package is on CTAN: http://www.ctan.org/tex-archive/fonts/lm/ * ConTeXt has switched to pdftex 1.40. Unfortunately, due to changes in pdftex, it is not possible to support both 1.40 and 1.30 reliably at the same time, so if you normally use pdftex, you have to upgrade pdftex as well as context. In case your TeX installation does not have an easy update solution, the pdftex 1.40.1 distribution is available in source from here: http://sarovar.org/projects/pdftex Alternatively, you could temporarily use XeTeX instead of pdftex. If you cannot solve or work around the two above issues, you should not update to the new ConTeXt. New features (compared to 2007.01.02): * Complete support for pdftex 1.40 * Swich to Latin Modern Math * Support for TeXGyreSchola fonts * Support for pdftex 1.40's draft mode (texexec --draft) * The scripts texmstart, texexec and texsync return exit codes now * The vim-based syntax highlighting module is added to cont-ext.zip Bugfixes: * A math display error message from 2007.01.02 is fixed * The unicode map file loading was broken in non-pdftex * texexec's --passon switch is re-instated * The Adobe euro font map file is now usable by dvips as well Happy TeXing, Taco Hoekwater

footnotes and footnote markers on SPREAD

Hi, there seems to be a rule that footnotes and footnote markers have to be kept on the same page -- even if there stays a lot of white space at the bottom. Is there also a kind of penalties to modify the rule like this: Keeping on the same page would be best, but on the same SPREAD is fine enough?! Steffen

Keeping section heading with following text?

The other minor problem I had is that in one place i got a subsection heading at the bottom of one page and the text that follows it on the top of the next page. Is there some setting I can make which stops this happening?

grid versus whitespace

Hi, please have a look at following example: \starttext \setupwhitespace[5pt] \setuplayout[grid=no] \showstruts \showgrid \showgridboxes \setuphead[section][grid=fit] \section{Heading One} \input tufte \input knuth \stoptext For the section is too high, I set grid=yes which gives the desired section distance. But now the whitespace 5pt between the regular paragraphs gets lost! Is there a way to have both: section grid snapping *and* regular whitespace? Steffen

The latest ConTeXt (ver: 2007.01.18 12:57 MKII fmt: 2007.1.18 int: english/english) will not process my files. The log file has: ... (/usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf.local/tex/context/base/type-akb.tex)) kpathsea: Running mktextfm lmmi7 /usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf/web2c/mktexnam: Could not map typeface abbreviation mm for lmmi7. /usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf/web2c/mktexnam: Need to update /usr/ local/teTeX/share/texmf.tetex/fonts/map/fontname/special.map? mktextfm: Running mf-nowin -progname=mf \mode:=ljfour; mag:=1; nonstopmode; input lmmi7 This is METAFONT, Version 2.71828 (Web2C 7.5.5) kpathsea: Running mktexmf lmmi7 ! I can't find file `lmmi7'. <*> ...e:=ljfour; mag:=1; nonstopmode; input lmmi7 ... grep: lmmi7.log: No such file or directory mktextfm: `mf-nowin -progname=mf \mode:=ljfour; mag:=1; nonstopmode; input lmmi7' failed to make lmmi7.tfm. GFS Fonts, especially GFS Bodoni, Didot and Porson

Hi, a few days ago Alan Bowen wrote about his problem using GFS Bodoni. I'm looking for GFS fonts. The link http://www.greekfontsociety.org/pages/en_typefaces.html seems to be dead. So can anybody provide me with these fonts or send me a working link? It would help a lot if he could add all the needed afm, vf, map etc. files to use them with context. Thanks in advance Chris

Working with environments and projects

Hi all! I'm trying to work with environements, projects, products and components. I have the following setup, involving juste one component at the moment: The component file is named acoustique.tex: \startcomponent acoustique \product prd_articlesdemo \project project_dhfq2 [some text] \stopcomponent Then, in the same folder, there's the product file: \startproduct prd_articlesdemo \project project_dhfq2 \component acoustique \stopproduct Then, in the same folder, there's the project file: \startproject project_dhfq2 \environment env_dhfq2 \product prd_articlesdemo \stopproject Then, in a folder above my working folder, there's the environment file: \startenvironment env_dhfq2 [too much stuff to paste here] \stopenvironment Now when I compile either the component or the product, I get: TeXExec | no ctx file found TeXExec | nothing to process What I am doing wrong? Is it right not to use \starttext ... \stoptext here? Thanks! JFS

bug in figure database

Hi Hans, I'm currently building up a new tree, based on your minimal system. Everything works fine, except figure inclusion from data bases. I finally traced it down to the following typo(s) (x-fig-00.tex | x-fig-04.tex) : \def\dogetfigurefilename#1% {\ifx\figurefilename\empty \bgroup \xdef\figurefilebasepath{#1}% \assignfullfilename{#1}\figurefilebase\to\filename \expanded{\processXMLfilegrouped{\filename.xml}}% \ifx\figurefilename\empty\else \globallet\figurefilebase\figurefilebase ^^^^ should be \filename, else the path to the database pdf is missing \fi \egroup \fi} Greetings, Peter
