Hello all: I have a book with 15 text chapters, after, a part with 24 pages for ilustrations with is own list of figures and then two more text chapters. I have then a Table of contents at the beggining of the book and one list of figures almost in the end. My list of figures is empty. I have only the head (Ilustraciones, in this case). Is a structure related problem? or what? Is necesary some kind of definelist for the figures? Help! i need somebodys help!! How to align numerals in lists on the dot or paranthesis that follows the numeral?

At least in the U.S., it is the rule and a strict requirement to typeset vertical lists in such a way that the numerals align on the dot or parenthesis following the numeral. (even the daily violation of the rule by some of the most widely used word processors such as MS Word has not changed this old-aged convention.) I feel it must be possible in ConTeXt to do this because it is such a basic requirement and ConTeXt is used professionally. However, it's not the default behavior and I don't know which options will achieve it. (And if by any chance, this is not yet possible in ConTeXt, can anyone suggest a workaround for this, in ConTeXt of course. It is the default behavior in both LaTeX and eplain. Hi Hans, did you maybe forget to include some files in the current beta? I only see the pattern files and some documentation, but nothing in tex/ context/base. Or am I missing something? Best Thomas

metafont suffix problem

My knowledge of MetaPost falls short. I hope someone will be able to help me with the following problem: This is a macro along the line of the mode_def definition (see the MetaFont book, Appendix B). def count_ suffix $ = $ := incr counter_; countnames_[$] := str$; enddef; called from some other macro, abbreviated: def defineCount(expr xyz) suffix name = begingroup % among other statements count_ name; endgroup; The problem is that I would like to modify the contents of 'name' before it is used in 'count'. I tried several solutions as for example: save name; string newname; newname := str name & "extension"; count_ newname; but then newname is not accepted. The error message is: >> unknown string newname ! Equation cannot be performed (unknown string=numeric). and occurs count_->(SUFFIX0):=incr.counter_; countnames_[(SUFFIX0)]:=str (SUFFI... Directly changing name (because assignment to a suffix is possible): name := str name & "extension"; gives a similar error. Nor did encapsulating of 'defineCount' with an outer calling macro where the extension as added work for me. Hans van der Meer

referencing figures with \in

I used to place references to figures and tables in the following way: \placefigure[][fig:myfig]{Title}{\useMPgraphic{myfig}{parameters}} \in{figure}[fig:myfig] This however printed a dot instead of the expected "figure #". Changing to \at{figure}[fig:myfig] again printed the correct reference. Looking further into this I found: \meaning\in --> \protected macro:->\dohandlemathtoken {in} \meaning\at --> macro:->\dohandlecommand {at} Still, the ConText manual tells me that \in{.1}{.2.}[ref] (with {.2.} optional) should work. In file core-ref.tex at line 2118 (2007-04-17 version) I find: %\def\in% % {\ifmmode % \expandafter\donormalin % \else % \expandafter\doinatreference\expandafter\currenttextreference % \fi} But I am definitely not in math mode when calling \in. I did some further experimentation but nothing helped. Has something changed here or is there something I do obviously wrong? Hans van der Meer

Setting background for entire header

Hi, I want to set the background of the entire header (from left edge of the paper to the right edge). As far as I could tell, there is no way to coax setupbackgrounds to do this. I can do this using layers or abuse the margin and offset keys of framed to make it cover the remaining area, but is there really no direct way to do this? Notepad++ format files

Hello, Someone promised to provide ConTeXt formats for Notepad++ some time ago. Is this affort alive? I use the app a lot but it is tailored for LaTeX. It is unjust. BTW, Notepad++ is based on the SciTE editor. -- Best regards, Vyatcheslav Yatskovsky
