inclusion from image database broken (mkii+mkiv)

hi, when i try to include an image from one of my databases i get the following error messages: mkii: !pdfTeX error: pdftex.exe (file ./lib/test-db.pdf): xpdf: reading PDF image failed (0) ==> Fatal error occurred, no output PDF file produced! mkiv: !luaTeX error: xpdf: reading PDF image failed ==> Fatal error occurred, no output PDF file produced! i looked into the mkiv sources, but didn't succeed. the lua part (db only) is clear to me, but i couldn't find the point in tex, where \externalfigure is mapped to this somehow. either i have missed something or there is some code missing. mh, probably the first one :) regards, peter ps: any news about the \string{\{} problem in mkiv?

frames and columns

When I enclose columns in a frame then the columns are not formed. See the minimal example: \starttext \startframedtext \startcolumns[n=2] COLUMN 1 \column COLUMN 2 \stopcolumns \stopframedtext \stoptext Commenting out the \startframedtext,\stopframedtext typesets two columns; \startsimplecolumns shows the same ill behaviour. accented letters in mkiv

Hi all, sorry if this is obvious and I have simply overlooked something. I need the character U0113 "emacron." It is not present in the font I use. In mkii, I could simply write \=e, and TeX would take care of building (faking) the character. When I try this in mkiv, I get an error: error: ...al/texlive/texmf-local/tex/context/base/font-otf.lua:3329: attempt to index field '?' (a nil value) I'm not complaining about this somewhat opaque error message, but I'm wondering how I can fake this glyph. There was an older discussion on the list which pointed me to char-utf.tex and \definecomposedutf, but the file says "This feature is obsolete." So what would be the canonical way to build such a character in mkiv? Thanks a lot, all best Thomas

itemize numbering

The following minimal example goes wrong: \starttext \startitemize[a] \item sub a \startitemize \item sub a1 \item sub a2 \stopitemize \item sub b \stopitemize \stoptext The result is: . sub a - sub a1 - sub a2 a. sub b Whereas: \starttext \startitemize[a] \item sub a \item sub b \stopitemize \stoptext results in the expected output: a. sub a b. sub b Both mkii and mkiv show this behaviour. Versions are: This is pdfTeXk, Version 3.141592-1.40.7 (Web2C 7.5.6) ConTeXt ver: 2008.04.18 14:17 MKII fmt: 2008.4.19 int: english/ english Is this corrected in a later version than I have installed or is it still present? Waarom werkt \this niet onder ConTeXt?? In de file staat: \setupoutput[pdftex] \setupcolors[state=start] \setupinteraction [state=start, title={Try-Out Document}, pdfauthor={R.R. van Hassel}, colorlinks] \starttext \completecontent \chapter{This and That} Put \index{this}this this and \index{that}that in the index. \completeindex \stoptext met dat laatste eindigt de file. Schrijf ik alleen: \index{this}, dan verschijnt er wel een this in de Index maar niet in de tekst, mvg, Rene'

Thank you for all the replies. I open "Aquamacs emacs" from the terminal in which "source .luatex" was executed. Then it worked fine. For other methods, I'll try later. By the way, is it normal to run "luatools --generate" and "luatools -- ini --verbose --compile ..." whenever I start computer? Or, I missed something in my setup. Thank you again. Some questions about the taspresent module

Hi all (especially Thomas) I have played these days with the last version of the "taspresent" presentation module, to see how it can be used as such and/or with emacs-muse. I have discovered that due to the \Maketitle macros, which did not exist in the first versions, it is quite easy to have a muse style and nearly everything works quite well. I use mkiv from minimals. I have a few concerns though: - On some of the styles, page numbering is like this: 1 of 10, 2 of 10, etc. Is there a way, as I have to write in french more often than not, to modify that in my tex file without changing the style file (which I prefer not to do)? - With the greenblue style the title page is produced with its layout, but no text appears on that page... - The embossed style doesn't compile, apparently due some missing font (Emblem); is it some rare font, and if not where can I find it? I have installed a file called "Emblem Regular.ttf" but that didn't change things; here is the error message (AucTeX): .................................. ERROR: Font \**Emblem**:=uhvb8r at 30pt not loadable: metric data not found or bad. --- TeX said --- <to be read again> \relax \dododefinefont ...ontspec {#2}\rawfontidentifier \let \localrelativefontsiz... l.1 ...t,top=\vss ,bottom=\vss ,frame=off]{\Emblem \color [c]{Made with C\CM... --- HELP --- You requested a family/series/shape/size combination that is totally unknown. There are two cases in which this error can occur: 1) You used the \size macro to select a size that is not available. 2) If you did not do that, go to your local `wizard' and complain fiercely that the font selection tables are corrupted! .................................. oldstyle features and typing

Hi, While using oldstyle features with mkiv, -- in a typing environment comes out as a endash. I would consider this a bug. For example: \setfontfeature{oldstyle} \starttext \starttyping -- A comment 123 \stoptyping \stoptext Another interesting feature is that numbers in the typing environmnet come out in oldstyle (they look nice, BTW). This is expected, and can be avoided by using a complete typescript and loading tt fonts with fefault features, and other with oldstyle features. Nevertheless, I find it to be an interesting side effect. Aditya

Hi, I am trying to parse a xml file with mkiv to process a list of invoices (factuur in dutch). I managed to get things working (printing) but don't know how to assign these values into lua variables for the summing.
