Hello, I am trying to take as much place as possible for a centered figure on a page. For this, I am doing \placefigure [here] % Place [] % Label {} % Legend { \externalfigure[Figure.pdf] [factor=broad] % Also: max, fit %[width=10cm] % Does not work with factor } By playing with width I get something very close to what I need, but I can see that there's always an initial blank skip at the beginning of the page which is larger than the skip at the bottom. I have tried with \vskip-1.5cm and similar, but this does not move the figure up. How can I take as much place as possible in a page for a figure with identical empty spaces, at the top and the bottom? If I set it to [top] or [center] or [mid] I do not see any difference. thanks, Pau

how to remove unwanted coordinate numbers(metafun)

Dear all. I try to draw a circle with points on it as following: path p; p:= fullcircle scaled 5cm; draw p; pickup pencircle scaled 2mm; k:=1; for i = 2.2,3,3.5,4.5,5,7,0,.7,1.3: drawpoint point i of p; label.lft(decimal k, point i of p); k:= k+1; endfor; It draws a circle, points, label, but unwanted coordinate numbers like (60.43535, 36.97691), too. I didn't see such numbers in any example in metafun document. If I use z[k] like z[k] = point i of P; draw z[k] Then such a long numbers disappeared. Iwona-Light error

I get the following error message when trying to use the iwona-light font in MKII: Cannot find Iwona-CapsLight.mf. Iwona and Iwona-Heavy load OK. The following code demonstrates the problem: \usetypescriptfile[type-one] \usetypescript[iwona-light][ec] \setupbodyfont[iwona-light,12pt] \starttext \showbodyfont \showbodyfontenvironment \input knuth \stoptext BTW, the new chapter on typography helps immensely. However, I am a bit confused by table 1.7 which, among other things, states that "commercial fonts are typeset in bold." grid=verytolerant causes overlapping

Hi all, if one sets the grid option to verytolerant the list entries overlap. gridsnapping question

Hello, I've another grid question: What is the goal of all the grid options? It seems that neither the head nor the following text is aligned to the grid. odd end-of-line error w/ Minion Pro

Hi, I'm seeing a strange behavior with Minion Pro in OTF and the simplefont package. I'm not sure if it only happens with simplefont because I don't know how to set up a typescript. In any case, in breaking a line between roman and italic text, ConTeXt is losing a bit of space at the end of line. I thought it might be related to using hz or hanging alignment, or the quality option for protrusion and expansion, but it seems to happen even with these features disabled. Very unclear what could be causing this. Is it a known issue? What is this kind of bad behavior called? I've attached an image to which I've added a red line to show where the 'a' is leaving extra space before the newline. Thanks again, — Daniel Lyons

serial letters with letter module

Dear All, I have been using Hans' old correspondence module with an xml - rng database as documented for a number of years. I now want to switch to Wolfgang's letter module, but do not know how to connect it to the xml database. For example, commands like: \XMLprocesscontacts[./../../adressen-xml/adressen.xml] \setvariables [letter:data] [address=\XMLflush{address}, prefix=\XMLflush{prefix} ] do not work anymore. Could anyone (Wolfgang?) help me out in this ? I have installed both mkiv and mkii. Thanks on beforehand, Robert

qpdf broken with beta since 2001/02/08

Hi I have a problem using qpdf (http://qpdf.sourceforge.net/) with context beta since 2011.02.08. Don't really know whose fault it is, but there might be something wrong with mkiv. All I want to do is generating a linearized (web optimized) pdf using qpdf as hinted on this list (see http://www.ntg.nl/pipermail/ntg-context/2011/055626.html) I was able to use it until context beta 2011.02.08, and getting an error since. Here's what I'm doing: 1) test.tex contains %%% \starttext Hello world! \stoptext %%% 2) running "context test.tex" to make the pdf 3) running "qpdf --linearize test.pdf out.pdf" which creates the optimized out.pdf So up until and including context beta 2011.02.05 everything was working. --- reviczky@calcium ~/Desktop % qpdf --linearize test.pdf out.pdf reviczky@calcium ~/Desktop % --- But since beta 2011.02.08 (10:06) I get just a very brief error: --- reviczky@calcium ~/Desktop % qpdf --linearize test.pdf out.pdf operation for Name object attempted on object of wrong type 2 reviczky@calcium ~/Desktop % :( --- Does anyone have a clue what might go wrong here? Does context beta (mkiv) generates broken pdf's now? How can I check that? qpdf isn't too helpful with that: --- checking test.pdf PDF Version: 1.6 File is not encrypted File is not linearized No syntax or stream encoding errors found; the file may still contain errors that qpdf cannot detect --- Perhaps there's something new in context that breaks the qpdf check? Speech bubbles

Evening all: Has anyone got a nicer \speechbubble definition up their sleeve? Here is not-nice one, so you know the floor: \define [1] \speechBubble {\blank \framed [width=.6\textwidth ,autowidth=force,align={flushleft}, background=color, backgroundcolor=darkblue, foreground=color, foregroundcolor=white, frame=off,corner=0,backgroundoffset=5pt,] {#1} ~~~ \tfd \startcolor[darkblue]{'} \stopcolor \tfa \blank} Called with things like: \speechBubble {They could be above or below the frequency we can hear, so called infra-sound or ultra-sound, or the amplitude could be just too small: so not enough power in the radiating pathway for the detector to respond.} I guess there are some people with xs metapost skills out there... But is there as simple way to get a nice curved pointer left or right from the bottom of that rounded rectangle frame?
