How to \bf for math?

Hello, What exactly is the ConTeXt alternative to LaTeX's \mathbf (switch to bold or bold italic math fonts)? (Btw: is it better to use bold or bold italic for typesetting vectors? We use "overrightharpoonup", so I don't know what an international standard says.) I understand the main commands for switching the font in text (rm, tt, ss for family and tf, sl, it, bf, bs, bi, sc + an optional x/xx/a/b/c/d), but I didn't understand yet what to use for math. ~~~ As an intermezzo: is there any way to ger small caps slanted? \sc will do the small caps, but \sl switches to normal slanted font (no small caps) again. I suppose that the current model (set of current font definitions) doesn't account for the possibility of using small caps slanted or small caps bold (slanted). Is there any elegant way to do that, for example by defining new commands such as \scbf, \scit, \scbi [+ xx/x/a/b/c/d]? (I can still use other tricks to get those fonts, but some general scheme for using them could be useful for others as well.) ~~~ I tried to use the examples described in mfonts.pdf, but I can't get those examples working. (I probably used too few definitions when more definitions are required at once to make the examples work.) I also tried the command from one of Adam's articles, \def\mfunction#1{{\em#1}}, to get italic euler math font, but without success. I tried \starttypescript [boldmath] [iwona-heavy] [name] \definefontsynonym [MathRomanBold] [Iwona-Math-Letters-Heavy] ... \starttypescript %[boldmath] [iwona-heavy] [default] \definebodyfont [boldmath] [mm] [(bf)mr=MathRomanBold mo 1, ...] ... and different settings in starttypescript/definebody font ... but no success at all. I would like to create some definitions, so that I could easily say (write a command) "I want the light version for regular math and the regular font for bold math" or "I want the regular version for regular and the heavy version for bold math". fields (widgets) in PDF layer

Hi all! I've searched for an answer some time ago http://archive.contextgarden.net/message/20051230.132510.4dba9fed.en.html Meanwhile I've solved the problem and the solution is quite simple. Only some minor changes are needed, to bound the state of fields to the state of their surrounding PDF layer. I attached a 'small' example file and two diff files for patching. So what is this good for? For example think about multilayered control fields (stack), which appear in the form of a tabular box (one tab active at a time). Every tab can contain any kind of interactive field. No more mouse interaction (and ugly gfx glitches) with hidden fields, if the surrounding PDF layer is switched off. To Hans: - Dunno if the name \currentPDFlayer is o.k., or if there is a better place for it's (re)initialisation. - The fields are still active (only hidden), if the outer layer is deactivated (nested). Is the outer layer not part of the child layers OCMG? Reading the PDF reference manual is much harder than reading your sources... So it's up to you, if and how this is added. Greetings, Peter

There is something I do not understand with alignment. My idea was to put a small text in the middle of the line. The minimal example below does center he first but not the second alignment. Is this intentionale or an unforseen interaction between alignment and framed? \starttext \startalignment[middle] middle? yes! \stopalignment \startalignment[middle] \framed{middle? no!} \stopalignment \stoptext yours sincerely, dr. Hi, I am using Context for the second time now and I am investigating the pro's and con's before migrating my Latex documents to Context. So far I am really impressed with Context capabilities. Now I am testing some of the math I typeset with Latex to determine whether or not to use Context. In Latex I am using the ams math packages and knowing that there is a amsl module for Context I did some test such as \def\wdiv{{\rm div} \:} \def\rot{{\rm rot} \:} \placeformula[eqn1] \startformula \eqalignno{ \wdiv \vec{E} & = \frac{\rho}{\epsilon_{0}} &\formulanumber{.a} \cr \rot \vec{B} & = \mu_{0} \:\vec{j} &\subformulanumber{.b} \cr \wdiv \vec{B} & = 0 &\subformulanumber{.c} \cr \rot \vec{E} + \frac{\partial \vec{B} }{\partial t} & = 0 & \subformulanumber{.d} \cr} \stopformula How can I refer to these subformulas in my running text ? As I am typesetting a lot of math in my physics doc's I use a lot of integration symbols amongs others. In Latex I use \oint, \oiint and \oiint, even a quadruple int to indicate space - time integrals. Even I defined a tex command for the surface integral. I also found the Context \showmathcharacters which gave me most of the math symbols from the amsl module. However I did not found alternatives for \oiint, \oiiint unfortenately. I discovered the \definemathsymbol in several context tex files, I was wondering if it is possible to setup my own \oiint, \oiiint, \oiiiint ... symbols ? If yes, my problem is I can't find any docu's on the usage of \definemathsymbol ? Any help appreciated Kind regards W.Neimeijer

Dear all, using \placefigure I obtain in output the caption with "Figure x. etc" I'm currently writing in Italian, so I need to have "Figura" in place of "Figure". What have I to do? Hello Taco, in the collector item 80, I was perhaps not clear enough. In fact, I'm just looking for the ConTeXt-way to do the same as the following in LaTeX: \documentclass{article} \usepackage[pdfstartview=FitBH,pdfpagemode=FullScreen]{hyperref} \begin{document} \tableofcontents \newpage \section{bla} \end{document} That is: - when starting acroread, the view is "minwidth" - and the mode is "FullScreen" - and when clicking on a reference, the zoom-level does *not* change Since this is possible with LaTeX, I believe that it should be also possible with ConTeXt, for example like this: \setupoutput[pdf] \setupinteraction[state=start,startfocus=minwidth] \setupinteractionscreen[option=max] \starttext \completecontent \page \section{bla} \stoptext Greetings, Peter -- http://pmrb.free.fr/contact/

Fonts problems

Good afternoon. I apologize that I bother you once more, but I'm getting desperate. :-( I have still problem with fonts in ConTeXt---perhaps I'm not able to install it well. I use ConTeXt ver: 2006.02.03 21:00, pdfeTeX, Version 3.141592-1.21a-2.2 (Web2C 7.5.4), tetex-3.0-13 under SuSE Linux 9.2 (the tetex is grabbed from Suse 9.3). I tried to copy all files where I thought they should have been, texhashed, and build formats. Now, some things work, but not all of them, and not in an expected way. Problem 1: I expect that a following file should typeset "tufte" in Latin Modern font. \setupoutput[pdf] \starttext \input tufte \stoptext ConTeXt loads some map files (/usr/share/texmf/fonts/map /dvips/context/original-empty.map}{/usr/share/texmf/fonts/map/dvips/context/ori ginal-base.map}{/usr/share/texmf/fonts/map/dvips/context/ec-public-lm.map}{/usr /share/texmf/fonts/map/dvips/context/ec-base.map}{/usr/share/texmf/fonts/map/dv ips/context/8r-base.map}{/usr/share/texmf/fonts/map/dvips/context/t5-base.map}{ /usr/share/texmf/fonts/map/pdftex/context/original-ams-base.map}{/usr/share/tex mf/fonts/map/dvips/context/original-ams-euler.map}{/usr/share/texmf/fonts/map/d vips/context/original-public-lm.map}), but it clearly isn't able to find the right one, since it writes this error message: kpathsea: Running mktexpk --mfmode / --bdpi 72 --mag 1+0/72 --dpi 72 ec-lmr12 mktexpk: don't know how to create bitmap font for ec-lmr12. kpathsea: Appending font creation commands to missfont.log. ) Warning: pdfetex (file ec-lmr12): Font ec-lmr12 at 72 not found I can correct it when I add one more file: \loadmapfile[psclean.map] But I was told that I should omit this line. What's the problem? How can I correct it? Problem 2: Let's suppose I add into the previous file this B\"oh-Bawerk then the letter \"o is missing (a white space is on its place). Isn't there a bug in the Latin modern fonts/virtual fonts/metrics, or whatever? Moreover, gv views the hyphen over the "h" and "B" letters. (Acrobat Reader 7 view it all right.) How is that possible. Problem 3: Some fonts are not used properly. The following file \setupoutput[pdf] \loadmapfile[psclean.map] \usetypescript[ppl] % working pos \switchtobodyfont[ppl,10pt] \starttext \input tufte\par \stoptext works well. It works even if I change "pos" to "ppl", "ptm", "phv", or "tim". It works even when changed to "pcr", but the text is ragged. When changed to "con", "bookman", or "iwona", it does nothing---the text is typeset in Latin Modern. When changed to "ant", I get this error message: kpathsea: Running mktextfm sy-anttrz /usr/share/texmf/web2c/mktexnam: Could not map typeface abbreviation y- for sy-anttrz. /usr/share/texmf/web2c/mktexnam: Need to update /usr/share/texmf/fonts/map/fontname/special.map? mktextfm: Running mf-nowin -progname=mf \mode:=ljfour; mag:=1; nonstopmode; input sy-anttrz This is METAFONT, Version 2.71828 (Web2C 7.5.4) kpathsea: Running mktexmf sy-anttrz ! I can't find file `sy-anttrz'. I think I have installed all these fonts (instead of Adobe fonts I have URW ones). What's wrong. Problem 4: From what afm files were the tfm metrics for Times, Helvetica, and Palatino generated? Accents are positioned in a strange way and after a tquoteright is a strange hole (bad kerning). A long time ago I've generated myself tfm metrics from afm files of URW fonts, and they look much better. Were these afm files used, or were used some afm metrics of fonts that do not include accented letter, i.e. are those letters just TeX-based composites? Problem 5: How can I switch back to CS fonts? (Well, I know I bother you all, but I still do not like Latin Modern fonts.) :-( I thought that something like this could work, but it doesn't: \setupoutput[pdf] \loadmapfile[psclean.map] \loadmapfile[/usr/share/texmf/dvips/context/original-public-csr.map] \starttypescript [serif] [computer-modern] [il2] \definefontsynonym [cmb10] [csb10] [encoding=il2] \definefontsynonym [cmbsy10] [csbsy10] [encoding=il2] ... \stoptypescript \usetypescript[computer-modern][il2] \switchtobodyfont[computer-modern,10pt] \starttext \input tufte \stoptext How can I do it? using symbols in MetaFun

Hello, I have a "conversion" defined in the following way: \usesymbols[jmn] \defineconversion [gnuplot] [$\bullet$, $\circ$, $\star$, x, {\symbol[navigation 1][NextJump]}] I would like to use these symbols in a macro draw_symbol(x,y,number) so that draw_symbol(0,0,3) would draw a star in the origin. The problem is that I don't know: - how to use symbol sets inside MetaFun (verbatimtex \usesymbols[jmn] etex doesn't work here) - how to enable label(btex \convertnumber{gnuplot}{5} etex, (x,y)) to work properly in metafun (no luck with verbatimtex ... etex again) Any hints would be appreciated.
