Thanks to all. That gives me some leads. I wanted to try something using your advice but in the mean-time decided to typeset my document in lucida instead of comp modern. My installation just won't do it. So I am struggling on this and leave the graphs to later. I stand corrected, the idea is to have a basket with shapes and another basket with arrows. Pick on the fly the necessary pieces and assemble them in a chart, place the chart in a figure environment and put a numberd legenda underneath of it. -- Hm, I would not know how to achieve this without tweaking the sources... Newbie cant get \externalfigure to work Just starting with Context I'm using 4TEX 5.0 (ver June 1999) I want to make a pdf document with some pictures In LaTex, this (postscript) works; \documentclass[a4paper]{article} \usepackage[dvips]{graphicx} \begin{document} \frame{% \includegraphics{DSCN0043.eps} }% Some text \end{document} I try the same thing in Context and I get an empty box with 3 lines of text "name: dummy" "file: DSN0043" "unknown" Heres my script: \setupoutput[pdftex] \useexternalfigure [appleblossom][DSCN0043] [type=eps,width=.4\makeupwidth] \starttext \startfiguretext [left] [fig:appleblossom] {none} {\externalfigure [DSCN0043] [type=eps,width=.4\makeupwidth,frame=on]} Some text \stopfiguretext \stoptext log file says ConTeXt ver: 1999.5.11 fmt: 1999.6.4 int: english mes: english ...snip... systems : begin file 2Context at line 23 figures : figure DSCN0043 can not be found Thank you for your help Richard Hardwick

inverted (french) quotation marks for german documents

Hello, I'm starting with Context and have the following question. I want to achieve the inverted (french) quotation marks for german documents. For example: >>househusband<< With latex or pdflatex I use ">househusband"< or \frqq househusband\flqq but this doesn't work in Context. Dear ConTeXt users, I just started to try \fillinfield as described in the up-todate manual 1998/1. For some names it worked properly, but for my own name it didn't. Also, I've noticed odd kerning with apostrophes, in both Jenson Pro and, it seems, in your sample on page 1 where the word "Adobe's" looks quite odd. Any ideas what's going on with that? A mistake in the metric files? And how would this be corrected; go into the kerning pairs and adjust them for this glyph? Bruce

Font h__ revisited.

No virtuous deed goes unpunished. I have been using old-fashioned \font commands with Context because the other was just too confusing. But I htought it was time to ger religion. So I copied the following pretty much verbatim from a manual: \definefontsynonym [Serif] [Palatino] \definefontsynonym [Palatino][uplr8r] [encoding=default] \definebodyfont [14.4pt] [rm] [tf=Serif sa 1] ... \switchtobodyfont[14.4pt] ...and I get Computer Modern according to Acrobat Reader. ---------------------------------- But when I use this: \font\rm=uplr8r at 12pt \font\bf=uplb8r at 14.4pt \font\bs=uplbo8r at 17.3pt \rm I get the font I want where I want it. --------------------------------------------------- So what am I messing up in the first example? Hallo! 'makempy' uses 'acroread' as default under Unix. How can I change this, when calling makempy indirectly by texexec. gruß, Wolfgang

Hello, I compile a document with texexec --pdf --mode=<somemode> ..., and I want to access whatever is specified for <somemode> in the document as literal text. So if I run texexec --pdf --mode=screen ... I want something like "this document was processed in screen mode" to show up in the text.
