Hi, I'm uploading a new beta. This one has utf8 as a regime: \enableregime[utf] the xml alternative \useXMLfilter[utf] also works. Some pending issues: how to deal with the utility files and so. I'll look into that as soon as i have to deal with utf cq. hav eproper test files. You should be able to process non western scripts, but the fonts/glyphs are not yet defind (see unic-0*.tex for how we're going to deal with that). Unknown glyphs will show up as a small rule, unless you say: \chardef\utfunicodetracer=1, 2 or 3 There is also a file: http://www.pragma-ade.com/temp/unitest.pdf just to get an idea of this kind of mapping. Swedish in lang-ger.tex

Hi Hans, Some weeks ago, before I found this discussion forum, I sent you a mail about Swedish conventions in ConTeXt. Simce I see that no changes have been made in "lang-ger.tex" I repeat my comments here: \installlanguage [\s!sv] [\c!spatiering=\v!opelkaar, \c!leftsentence=---, \c!rightsentence=---, \c!leftsubsentence=---, \c!rightsubsentence=---, % \c!leftquote=\upperleftsinglesixquote, \c!leftquote=\upperrightsingleninequote, \c!rightquote=\upperrightsingleninequote, % \c!leftquotation=\upperleftdoublesixquote, \c!leftquotation=\upperrightdoubleninequote, \c!rightquotation=\upperrightdoubleninequote, % \c!datum={\v!jaar,\ ,\v!maand,\ ,\v!dag}, \c!datum={\v!dag,\ ,\v!maand,\ ,\v!jaar}, \c!status=\v!stop] As you can see "leftquote", "leftquotation" and "datum" ought to be changed. Also, in the Swedish language the symbol represented by "---" doesn't exist; we only use "-" and "--". So I guess "leftsentence", "rightsentence", etc. should be changed too. Indexing macros

The "register" macros in Context only provide for a single level index AFAIK so I have been looking at the use of either makeindex or Xindy in a Context project. I have slightly modified the index.tex file from the Texsis distribution and renamed it indexx.tex. Instructions for use are included in the file. The command sequence is: texexec test.tex makeindex test.idx -o test.ind texexec test.tex. The test.tex file is as follows: \input indexx.tex \markindextrue \starttext Hello \page[yes] \idx{Frisbee} \idx{Saucer} \indexx{foo} \indexx{foo!bar} \page[yes] \input test.ind \stoptext The indexx.tex file can be found at: http://wexfordpress.com/tex/indexx.tex Most parties seem to prefer the more capable Xindy to the old standby makeindex. However The Xindy distribution has a program for translating makeindex raw index files to Xindy raw index files. So the indexx.tex macros can be used as a stopgap method now. I will work on another version that will emit Xindy raw files natively. Generating formats.

Hi: I am trying to install ConTexT system on my PC. My TeX system is MikTeX and I use Windows 2000. However it's imposible to me generate the formats. When I type the command for that the system answer to me as follow: C:\tmp>texexec --make en TeXExec 3.1 - ConTeXt / PRAGMA ADE 1997-2002 ! You have to increase POOLSIZE. TeX binary : pdfetex format(s) : en total run time : 0 seconds Can anybody to help me, please? Eduardo F. In-paragraph display

Hello, I'm going to bring the discussion back to a sore point that really needs to be cleared. When dealing with displayed material (equations, itemizations, quotations etc) the following four cases are (or rather should be) different: ============================== Case 1: some text before \startdisplay displayed material \stopdisplay some text after ============================== Case 2: some text before \startdisplay displayed material \stopdisplay some text after ============================== Case 3: some text before \startdisplay displayed material \stopdisplay some text after ============================== Case 4: some text before \startdisplay displayed material \stopdisplay some text after ============================== The reason why they should be different is that (1) in case 1 the display is part of the paragraph which includes both the text before, the displayed material, and the text after (2) in case 2 the display is part of a the paragraph which begins with the displayed material and includes the text after, but not the text before (3) in case 3 the display is part of a the paragraph which begins with the displayed material and includes the text before, but not the text after (4) in case 4 the display forms a paragraph on its own Why is this important? Assume for example that the paragraphs are set to have an indent (\setupindenting[medium], for example) and that the indentnext option is set to true. In this case "some text after" would only be indented in cases (3) and (4), but not in cases (1) and (2), since in cases (3) and (4) it starts a new paragraph while in cases (1) and (2) it is part of the previous paragraph. Is it just an impression of mine, or is it true that this is not the case in ConTeXt? The behaviour in all three cases seems to be the same ... -- Giuseppe "Oblomov" Bilotta

Split floating table

Hi, i try to typeset a very large table using the Natural Table macros. I would like to place the table as a floating object so it will get numbered and show up in the list of tables. In a recent post, the command \splitfloat was mentioned, but unfortunately, I could not find any documentation that would help me out. I tried the document below, which results in a split table, but all the rows of the table are split on their own. I am using the current beta. Some \definelayout troubles

Hi, I want to set a different layout for even and odd pages; so I use something like: \setuppagenumbering[alternative=doublesided] \definelayout[odd][backspace=4.0cm] \definelayout[even][backspace=2.5cm] This works fine, except I get these extra pages again after \stopstandardmakeup, \stopfrontmatter, and \stopappendices [Note: I applied the following patch to cont-new.tex, Context ver: 2002.10.23 \appendtoks \gdef\shipout{\dowithnextbox{\deadcycles\zerocount}}% \to \everylastshipout ] Any suggestions?
