\glueexpr in lmtx

Hi, I stumbled upon some odd behaviour of \glueexpr in lmtx. Take the following document: \starttext \the\glueexpr 0.0pt \relax \newskip\myskip \myskip=\glueexpr 0.0pt \relax \stoptext Without lmtx this works fine. Under lmtx, the *first* use of `\glueexpr`, after `\the`, works fine too. On the other hand, the other `\glueexpr`, after `\myskip=`, complains about a "Illegal unit of measure (pt inserted)". It does not seem to accept the fractional part, everything works again if I use \starttext \the\glueexpr 0.0pt \relax \newskip\myskip \myskip=\glueexpr 0pt \relax \stoptext Am I missing something here or is this a bug? Thank Taco, that worked in the example, of course the general problem stays (thanks to Rik Kabel, too). But with your suggestion I dicovered a interesting behaviour, see this example: \showgrid \setupnote[footnote][before=] \starttext \input tufte \input tufte \footnote{Footnote 1} \input tufte \input tufte \dorecurse{35}{Blub or what }\footnote{Footnote 2} That does\footnote{Footnote 3} only\footnote{Footnote 4} work in special cases. \stoptext Now Context indeed sets the third and fourth footnote on the second page, but leaves the reference to them on the last line of the first page. This is exactly the behaviour I want in general. Could we force that? /For testing: /If we add another footnote in the example above, it fails again - despite of the possibility to just typeset the lines exactly like in the example above, just move the footnotes on the next page, not the references - here might be some logic-mistake at work, because there should be no difference in my opinion between the examples: \showgrid \setupnote[footnote][before=] \starttext \input tufte \input tufte \footnote{Footnote 1} \input tufte \input tufte \footnote{Footnote extra} \dorecurse{35}{Blub or what }\footnote{Footnote 2} That does\footnote{Footnote 3} only\footnote{Footnote 4} work in special cases. \stoptext -- Huseyin Özoguz E-Mail: h.oezoguz(a)mmnetz.de

Hello, ConText seems to try to place the footnote on the same page as the footenotereference. See this example: \showgrid \starttext \input tufte \input tufte \footnote{Footnote 1} \input tufte \input tufte \dorecurse{35}{Blub or what }\footnote{Footnote 2} \input tufte \stoptext But that results into one (or two?) fewer line on the first page. Is there a possibility to implement the following rule? -> NEVER move lines onto the next page to achieve footnote and reference beging on the same page. If necessary set the footnote on the next page, after the reference. Or would you suggest a better solution? I have a book with grid=yes, so the default-setting is not suitable. Unwanted white box above float

Hi all. Have been experimenting with the many and varied options for placefloat to try to resolve this problem with no success. As per minimal example below I have nearly what I'm after - an image which floats to the right of a background box with a 1em offset - but I can't get rid of the white box which appears above it no matter what permutations I try. (Secondary query: why do I have to set leftoffset=, rightoffset= etc. individually for the text background? offset= seems to have no effect.) VORG and vmtx table in fontloader

Hello all, It seems that ConTeXt's fontloader (hence luaotfload's fontloader) skips to load the VORG table and topSideBearing in the vmtx table These informations are used to get the vertical origin of a glyph. > readers.vorg = function(f,fontdata,specification) > reportskippedtable(f,fontdata,"vorg",specification.glyphs) > end > readers.vmtx = function(f,fontdata,specification) > ... > for i=0,nofmetrics-1 do > ... > if vheight ~= 0 and vheight ~= vdefault then > glyph.vheight = vheight > end > -- if topsidebearing ~= 0 then > -- glyph.tsb = topsidebearing > -- end I don't know whether vertical metrics are used in ConTeXt. footnotes in columns not working

Dear Hans, I have been typesetting a Newsletter using ConTeXt since 2003. I have updated the programme regularly and made adjustments to my template as needed. Following the most recent update I have problems with footnotes in columns. Depending on the number and length of the footnotes I have varied between placing them at the end of each column or as a list at the end of each page using: \setupnote[footnote][location=columns] or commenting out %\setupnote[footnote][location=columns] to get what I need. In the attached image I had commented out %\setupnote[footnote][location=columns] expecting to get footnotes arranged one beneath the other at the bottom of the page but I get them in two columns and both run off the page. Can you help on this? I attach an .png of the result. Thanks, Charlie

font switching commands

Hi all "Manuals-ConTeXt wiki" provides us very important and useful information and we find cont-eni.pdf in "overview". In the manual, font switching commands \vi, \vii, \viii, \ix, \x, \xi, \xii are explained in p.113 but it seems they don't work except \vi and \xi. >From my simple test with ConTeXt, \xi produces a greek letter "ξ" as in traditional TeX and \vi seems to do nothing. Is the above explanation obsolete or is additional setup necessary? I'd like to know what is the real situation of these commands. Thanks in advance. Best regards, Atsuhito Kohda

Quotation marks

I understand it might have been deliberately and for various reasons, but ConTeXt has no analogue for {``} and {''} for quotes. \quotation is a replacement, but it is awkward if you write a draft in ConTeXt and make the final variant in pdfLatex. Is there a ready solution for the quotation marks as marked out in the text? Or one needs to write his own macro for this?
