2 questions for colors 1) Does ConTeXt offer complete color gestion as pdf spec 1.6 or there are some features not implemented ? 2) Preparing a pdf with bitmap colored images for offset press (ie covers for manuals): are png or jpeg an optimal solution or tiff is better ? question about figures and labels

Hi, I am trying to reference the 2 subfigures in my text , something like Some text .... \placefigure[][figuur7]{Centrifugale kracht $\vec{F}_{F}$ en centripetale kracht $\vec{F}_{c}$} { \startcombination[2*1] {\externalfigure[Drawings/figuur7a]} {} {\externalfigure[Drawings/figuur7b]} {} \stopcombination } In \in{figure}[figuur7a] and \in{figure}[figuur7b] one can see ......... ...... But I don't know how to setup the labels figuur7a, figuur7b ? I cannot find anything related on Wiki or in this newsgroup, I think it should be possible with Context ? Kind regards Wim Neimeijer

Fonts: Margin kerning: quotes not hanging?

Greetings ConTeXters, I've noticed recently that quotation marks (single + double), as well as parens, and perhaps others are not undergoing the expected margin kerning adjustments. Expected being those that are assigned to them in hand-def.tex. Punctuation like . , ; - -- --- all kern as expected. Is hand-def.tex just an example file? While I expect I'll have to make fine tuning adjustments in my font's own typescript file, where should I make overall adjustments? (e.g. I pretty much always want quotes to hang.) I'm using Adobe Minion Pro in this case, if this makes a difference. Thanks very much, David

figure placement

I am typesetting a small book and have run into two difficulties placing figures, which are constrained to even, i.e. left hand, blank, pages. The first place figures appear are opposite each new section. I coerce this with the following commands: \page[left] \noheaderorfooter \placefigure \page \section This scheme works when the previous section ends on an odd page, but when the section ends on an even page, \page[left] correctly inserts two blank pages, but the first, instead of being blank, retains a \vrule\pagenumber in the running head. It is little work to remove these artifacts with Acrobat, but I prefer these headers were empty. The second place figures appear is within sections. I use the same set of commands, which places the figures where I wish, but each figure must be placed precisely at the bottom of an odd page. This looks OK if the bottom of the page coincides with the end of a paragraph, but otherwise the last line is not flush right. I am looking for a solution that says, 'place this figure on the next blank even page disturbing the text flow as little as possible.' I have tried postponing, but without success. The attached archive includes a test file, an empty graphic and the pdf result. The ninth page shows the recalcitrant \vrule\pagenumber, and the eleventh page shows the result of splicing a figure in mid-paragraph. Any suggestions how to resolve these issues would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Michael A. Guravage

TeX capcity excedeed with metafun

Hi to all, I'm plotting 10,000 little squares thus exceeding TeX capacity. I was going to modify context.cnf (everything works with 5,000 squares). In particular, I'm on macosx 10.3 with Gerben's distro. I am editing this file: /usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf.local/web2c/context.cnf 1. is it correct? 2. Above all, I'am obtaining: ! TeX capacity exceeded, sorry [main memory size=8000000]. Here's the log: If you really absolutely need more capacity, you can ask a wizard to enlarge me. Here is how much of TeX's memory you used: 1108 strings out of 60272 18484 string characters out of 602115 8000001 words of memory out of 8000000 38234 multiletter control sequences out of 10000+50000 75018 words of font info for 37 fonts, out of 2000000 for 2000 192 hyphenation exceptions out of 5000 36i,2n,31p,223b,477s stack positions out of 5000i,500n,6000p,200000b,40000s PDF statistics: 0 PDF objects out of 300000 0 named destinations out of 131072 1 words of extra memory for PDF output out of 10000 No pages of output. But in context.cnf I have: main_memory.context = 2000000 main_memory.mpost = 3000000 main_memory.metafun = 3000000 Now, I added one 0 to all these params, thus decuplicating the values, but nothing changes. ? \setupfootnotes[split=?] query

No luck last time, so I will send this out once more: Currently I have \setupfootnotes[split=verystrict] and I am still getting one footnote call that occurs on the last line of page n where the note itself appears on page n+1. Is there a way to prevent this by assigning split= a number? If so, what numerical value will work? Or is there another setting? Thanks for any help. Cheers, Alan

Font question mfonts.pdf manual

Hi, I am reading the mfonts.pdf manual to understand more about Context font mechanism. In section 10 Math collection, Hans writes "Math is a complicated matter and therefore we will not spend that many words on the gory details .. ..... More information can be found in the documentation of the math module" First question is : Why do you not spend more words on this subject ? I suppose a lot of Latex users are possibly interested in using Context for their math typesetting but not knowing all the gory details, will complicate matters and hinder a possible conversion from Latex to Context. Second question is : where can I find the documentation of the math module ? Is it in PDF or do I need to consult math-ini.tex ? Kind regards Wim Neimeijer

I have heard a bit of talk about 'if the manual is updated' or some such like that. I was going to have the manual printed in a book so I have a hardcopy. Is the manual still current and relevant that it would be worth it? - Jeff
