cal & calligraphic

I am confused about the behaviour of \cal and calligraphic. In a font where the calligraphic letters are in MathItalic all goes well. But, in a font where the calligraphic letters come from another font I get: \definefontsynonym [Calligraphic] [FONT_OTHER_THAN_MathSymbol] in text: \calligraphic{ABC} is ok in text: {\cal ABC} is ok in math: $\calligraphic{ABC}$ is ok in text: ${\cal ABC}$ IS NOT OK, SYMBOLS KEEP COMING FROM MATHSYMBOL I would the font redefinition also being obeyed in math {\cal} ? problems with bold small caps

Hello, I would like to get bold small caps, here is my test-file: \enableregime[il1] \definebodyfont [12pt] [sc] [bf=ecxc1200] \definebodyfont [11pt] [sc] [bf=ecxc1100] \definebodyfont [10pt] [sc] [bf=ecxc1000] \definebodyfont [9pt] [sc] [bf=ecxc0900] \definebodyfont [8pt] [sc] [bf=ecxc0800] \starttext {\sc Normal and \bf bold Small-Caps. Accents: àÉßöÜ} \stoptext And here are my problems: 1.) I get bold sc font, but the normal \sc is now the normal font. 2.) It works only with dvi-output, with pdf I get: kpathsea: Running mktexpk --mfmode / --bdpi 72 --mag 1+0/72 --dpi 72 ecxc1200 mktexpk: Mismatched mode ljfzzz and resolution 72; ignoring mode. mktexpk: Can't guess mode for 72 dpi devices. mktexpk: Use a config file, or update me. kpathsea: Appending font creation commands to missfont.log. Where should I tell pdfetex the right resolution? 3.) Accented characters are not correct. 4.) Could there be native support for bold small caps in the distribution? TIA for any help! German hyphenation patterns

All, German orthography is a mess right now, we now have two sets of rules, old and new. New hyphenation is ugly and rules are constantly changing. I see that ConTeXt has lang-deo.pat, so I was hoping that this would produce "old" patterns, but it doesn't seem to work: \enableregime[utf] \mainlanguage[deo] \starttext \showhyphens{gestorben} \showhyphens{Bierdeckel} \showhyphens{äußerst} \stoptext gives me: Underfull \hbox (badness 10000) in paragraph at lines 8--8 [] \*10ptrmtf* ge-stor-ben Underfull \hbox (badness 10000) in paragraph at lines 10--10 [] \*10ptrmtf* Bier-de-ckel Underfull \hbox (badness 10000) in paragraph at lines 12--12 [] \*10ptrmtf* ‰u-ˇerst which is identical to \mainlanguage[de]. Patterns should be Bierdek- kel and ‰us-serst. Am I missing something, how can I enable "old" patterns? Thanks Thomas

extra space after variant

When I code: abc {\variant[xyz] pqr} I find extra space typeset between "abc" and "pqr". This extra space is absent when I code abc {\variant[xyz]pqr} Thus the space in the source between ] and pqr makes a difference in the result. Clearly visible in: abc {\variant[xyz] pqr} abc {\variant[xyz]pqr}\crlf abc {\Var[xyz]pqr} abc {\Var[xyz] pqr}\crlf I would think that this should not happen. The whitespace goes away by inserting an \ignorespaces in the variant- definition. \def\variant[#1]% slow {\dosetscaledfont \expanded{\definedfont [\truefontname{\fontstringA\fontstylesuffix\fontvariant \fontstringA{#1}} at \scaledfont]}\ignorespaces} Still using version 2005-11-14, forget this if already corrected in the latest version of the 30th. yours sincerely, dr. Hi, I'm uploading an update. Apart from a few fixes/new-things, the main change in the minimals is that the <platform>tex.zip files now only contain binaries, and justtex.zip the rest. So, in case you use a windows/linux minimal: you need to download two files now. In the case of macosx, gerbens auto-updater takes care of it, I replaced the iwona/kurier/etc map/enc files with the ones that are now shipped. In the meantime i found out that there is also a change in the ams font tfm structure, so if you copy over old trees, make that you remove old instances of those fonts. I hope that i didn't mess up things too much. The normal cont-*.zip files are updates too, and the map files now refer to the new iwona cum suis scheme uploading now, may take a while Hans

I would like to know how the "enco-pfr.tex" module works and how to properly use it. Besides of other languages, I also typeset documents in Czech. The search doesn't work (in recent Acrobat 7.0.5) for particular Czech letters (e.g. č,ž etc.). If I try to search for a simple letter (e.g. "č") it stops on every word containing "č", but also "c". If I try to search for a whole word (e.g. "počítač"), nothing is found. :-) I've followed the instructions posted on http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Encodings_and_Regimes and in the mailing list thread linked from that page. So I tried: \input enco-pfr \useencoding[pfr] \startencoding [ec] \usepdffontresource ec \stopencoding \setupbodyfont[lbr]% I have typescripts for Lucida Bright fonts, the Czech is typeset OK \starttext A testing Czech sentence follows: Příliš žluťoučký kůň úpěl ďábelské ódy. \stoptext Later I've found out that: - \input enco-pfr is already done in context.tex - \startencoding [ec] \usepdffontresource ec \stopencoding is already done at the bottom of enco-pfr.tex - so it seems that the only command I should issue is: \useencoding[pfr] BTW, in the Czech format (cont-cz.tex), I have defined: \setupencoding[default=ec] Doesn't it collide with the \useencoding[pfr] command later in the document? Hi I want to define synonyms with accentued characters (utf8) how can I do That? \definesynonyms[mysyn][mysans][\mysynfull] \mysyn{wordwithé}{Description of wordwithé} and what is the fourth optional brackets from \definesynonyms? I see that it is a command, but what dos this command? Dear gang, I am having difficuly getting dropped caps and the new indenting mechanism coordinated; the dropped cap goes into the margin.
