ConTeXt and vim spell check

Hi, I'm using vim 7.0.17. When I edit a ConTeXt source file, it does the syntax highlighting correctly, but it won't do spelling error highlighting. It works for other filetypes (including LaTeX). Is there something extra needed in .vimrc? I have filetype plugin indent on syntax enable set spell spelllang=en_au Robin

anaemic spacing around in-line typed text

The following look ugly because of anaemic spacing before and after typed text. \starttext The {\tt rand} function generates pseudo-random numbers. \stoptext How to fix it? Best, Vyatcheslav

XML in ConTeXt (TeX -> XML)

Hi, in the XML manual "example .pdf" the chapter "basic workflows" talks about TeX -> style -> XML : "we simply typeset XML. The typeset document (with lots of angle brackets) is then converted into raw text". That sounds like ... texmfstart texexec --xml --foo.tex ... but this also calls pdfetex and results in a pdf file. So what is actually meant by "we simply typeset XML"? Steffen

xetex problems

How to indent a paragraph

I know this is a newbie question. However I have read the fine manual (see below), and I still don't know how to indent a paragraph under ConTeXt. The following code does NOT produce an indented paragraph. Can somebody tell me what's wrong? % Begin ConTeXt code \starttext \setupinterlinespace[2] \setupindenting[medium] The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. \stoptext % End ConTeXt code % processed using TeXExec version 6.2.0 Also, could somebody point me to where I can download the latest version of the ConTeXt manual. The best I could find using Google's filetype:pdf site:pragma-ade.com is a document named "cont-eni.pdf".

Relationship among mptopdf, mpost and latex

Hi, some time ago I needed to include a png file into a MetaPost picture and I did it with the MetaFun macro externalfigure. I compiled the code with mptopdf and the result was fine. Since I had no previous experience with it, my code used LaTeX, not ConTeXt, for the labels. I have recently updated my distributions (TeX Live 2007 and gwTeX on Mac OS X) and the same code does not work any longer in either distribution. A minimal example reproducing the problem is as follows: verbatimtex %&latex \documentclass{article} \begin{document} etex beginfig(0); externalfigure "pic.png" scaled 15mm shifted origin; label.bot(btex $x$ etex, origin); endfig; end; The error mptopdf gives is: ! Undefined control sequence. l.44 \documentclass {article} as if the code were not interpreted as LaTeX code. I have tried the following two variants, but with no positive results: 1) I have used input TEX; TEXPRE("%&latex" & char(10) & "\documentclass{article}\begin{document}"); TEXPOST("\end{document}"); instead of the verbatimtex.. etex block, and label.bot(TEX("x_1"), origin); to draw the label. In this case, mptopdf does not complain, but I see '0' instead of the label in the output. 2) I have added input mp-tool; input mp-spec; to both the original code above and to variant 1) and I have typeset with mpost. The results are original code) the png picture is not shown in the output; variant 1) I get the error: ! Unable to make mpx file. l.3 btex x_1 etex So, I kindly ask someone to help me tidy things up. In particular: a) Is it possible to include the MetaFun macros when using mpost? b) Is it possible to use the %&latex syntax with mptopdf? Nicola

Force all floats on opposite even pages

Dear all, For the document I am currently working on I would like to have some control on the placing of the floats. What I would like is that all text is put on the odd pages (n), and that all floats are put on the opposite even pages (n-1). This can result in sub-optimal breaking of pages, but that depends on the ratio of the amount of floats versus the amount of text. Does anyone have an idea how to tackle this? Dear all, Last weekend I had my first hands-on experience with Context. I was told that a listing of the type of problems that I encountered would have a certain value to the Context project. That's why below you'll find an overview of my beginner-questions, to some of which I already found answers. My aim is not to have all questions answered via the list, but rather to document them for later use in some kind of manual. For I know that finding the answers is mostly a matter of searching the documentation. Kind regards, Luuk Beurskens The Netherlands PS: I have been using Latex for some years. The questions below came up using a stand-alone Context environment in MS Windows. Q: Starting with Context, the use of which language is to be preferred for the commands? A: The English version is most commonly applied, even in the Netherlands Q: If one starts in a Context document in one language, can it be easily converted to another language (form English to Dutch or German, for example)? A: This is possible, but no ready-available tool exists. Q: Why does background=color not work inside \bTABLE ... \eTABLE? A: Put \setupcolors[state=start] in the beginning of the document Q: How to apply a background colour for the margin space? A: This is possible but not easy to explain. See info by Patrick Gundlach and the section Crossing Borders in the Metafun manual in chapter Pagebackgrounds by Hans Hagen. Q: Where to put the commands that apply to the whole document? Is there a 'preferred sectioning' of a Context source? A: Q: What is the equivalent of the Latex \begin{thebibliography} environment? A: Q: The command \setupwhitespace[big] doesn't have an impact on the paragraph spacing. What am I doing wrong? A: Q: Using \startcombination[*] it is possible to display several pictures into one figure. How could one achieve that several figures are treated as one picture, i.e. that they are all forced to be placed on one page? A: Q: One cell in a table (\bTABLE ... e\TABLE) should contain a unit (EJ for example) in square brackets: [EJ]. The result is that the respective row is not displayed at all. What is wrong? Could I possibly use the Latex equivalent \symbol{code}? A: Q: How can I change the fontsize inside a table? A: Q: How can I change the fontsize of an \inmargin? A: Q: How can I make a line in the header or footer of a document? A: Q: How can I define a fancy page numbering (i.e. large and coloured number)? A: Q: How to make sure that numbers in a colomn align correctly, for example: 9400 60 100 3 Inserting ~ works fine when using a proportional font. An extra difficulty occurs when the figures should be centered below the heading of the column. A: Q: a question related to the use of SciTE: changing the file scite.properties for a proportional fontsize doesn't work, although it is very well explained in the SciTE helpfile. What's the trick? A: Q: Installing the minimal context distribution on a Windows 98 machine gives problems when copying on harddisk E:. Running the batch-file cscite.bat results in the following message: "cscite root, e.g. cscite d:\copyofcdrom" (more info: C: exists but D: is a non-writable linux partition). On a different computer the same directory structure on C: didn't give this message and worked well. A:
