I need to produce an lengthy itemization of the form: 1.AAAA 1.1 aaaa 1.2 bbbb 2.BBBB 2.1 cccc I can get: 1.AAAA 1 aaaa 2 bbbb 2.BBBB 1 cccc easily enough, but how can I get the main division number to repeat in the subitem numeration? Alan

placefigure[hang] in columns

Hi, I'm quite new to ConTeXT, so excuse me if the solution is obvious. I'm trying to typeset a document with three columns which contains _a lot_ of graphics, most of which are pretty small, about one third of a column. Unfortunately, while \placefigure[left,hang] works fine with one column, the text doesn't float around the picture when using two or more columns, so when I do ------ \starttext \startcolumns[n=2] \placefigure[left,hang]{none}{\externalfigure[somepic][width=1.6cm]} sometext \stopcolumns \stoptext ------ "sometext" appears in the second column, instead of next to the figure in the first column. To get an impression of what I want to achive you might try the following link: http://213.239.210.141/cgi-bin/lex.pl?titel=David%20Lynch&db=Berlin&id=58,1… While this comes close to what I mean (it's done in LaTeX), there are some limitations in LaTeX which make the job very painful, one of which is that it's impossible to have floats in columns for larger pictures that span one column (this works fine in Context). Am I just missing something? Ok, if that was too easy, here is the tough problem: *Actually* I would like to let the small pictures float _within_ the paragraph, so that if, say, the paragraph starts three lines before the end of the column, the picture would be set after the first three lines of the paragraph (and thus in the next column). I've experimented with writing \pdflastypos to logfiles, analysing them with a perl script, changing automatically the TeX-File and rerunning latex for days, but the results are ... well, ok, but not perfect. Bib-mod: Formatting of Publication Lists and Cites

Hi all I'd like to try to tell bib-mod to - fill in a vertical space between the entries in the publication list (the distance parameter did not help); - format the author's name in the cite as small caps (I managed to do it for the list, but unfortunately stayed unsuccessful for the cite). still waiting for mswincontext

Hello, Let me ask a few questions: 1) When "big things" will be regenerated? I'm still waiting for mswincontext with updated binaries. 2) What is the difference between mswincontext and mswintex packages? 3) If someone made mswincontext to work with latest updates, can he or she post how? After September 10 update of cont-tfm my installation produces broken pdfs, and even getting latest luatex from sourge didn't help. Best regards, Vaytcheslav Yatskovsky

Page numbers at empty pages and then empty header

Hi in a thread "Page numbers at empty pages" in the beginning of September I got a solution for the empty pages. But if I want empty headers at the beginning of the chapter it does not function: \setuphead[chapter][header=empty] \setuphead [chapter] [page=yes, before={\ifodd\realpageno\else\page[empty]\fi}] How can I combine these two options? Completelistoffigures, help needed!

Dear ConTeXt Users, Last week I posted a completelistoffigures question, but unfortunately nobody responded to it! That's why I give it another try, because I don't know how to tackle this problem. I'd like to generate a list of figures that only have a caption description, but no figure (\setupcaptions[...,number=no,....]) number. Using the setupcaptions command in the preamble with the number=no option yields only the title Figures of the list of figures, nothing more! However, when I change the number option of the setupcaptions command to yes, the list is generated correctly. But I don't want a figure number to appear in the caption of a figure! The figures appear throughout a book I'm currently writing using ConTeXt. Is there a way to accomplish the desired effect using the completelistoffigures command? Please can anybody give a hint! SciTE under Windows and Metapost

Good morning (or whatever you have in Europe now). Two or three week ago I've installed the minimal ConTeXt distribution under Windows. My first use of TeX under Windows, many thanks for the distribution, it's great! However, when I try to compile a metapost/metafun source from the SciTE editor, it fails. It tries to run mpost directly, and it's not found. I can run texmfstart texexec --mptex ... in the SciTE's command promt, and it works, but it's annoying. Can I somehow reconfigure the SciTE to run the metapost properly (I mean to run texexec --mptex)? Many thanks. Michal Kvasnicka P.S. Hans, would it be possible to add the Metafont into the minimal distribution? I like it so much I'd like to make it my major distribution even in Linux, but I need the Metafont since from time to time I still use some bitmapped font (like Concrete Math). Many thanks.

luatex "success story"

Hello all, Let me share my luatex "success story". I teach computer science, and current topics I deliver are Numbering Systems and Data Representation. Yesterday, I needed to prepare about twenty test papers with 10 questions per a paper. Examples: "1. convert Dec 36 into Hex", "2. convert Bin 10010101 into Dec", etc. The wording of every question has not to be changed through papers, only numbers had. Instead of filling in numbers manually, I took more intelligent approach and (with Hans' help) wrote simple lua scripts to generate random numbers right inside my document: % question involving random decimal number Convert \ctxlua{n=math.random(30,60) ; tex.print(n) ;}\low{10} into Bin. % question involving random binary number Convert \startluacode for c = 1, 16 do n = math.random(0,1) tex.sprint(n) end \stopluacode\low{2} into Hex. and so on... I specified the lower and upper limits as two arguments of random function, and that was very easy indeed. Then I copied my finished test text and pasted it many-many times. (It was probably not very wise approach, but I'm not familiar with looping TeX commands at the moment.) Luatex did the rest of the job perfectly, and in minute I had test papers with identical questions but all different figures! I only had to cut papers apart and hand out to my students.
