problem scaling big png images

Hello, I have problems with scaling of big png images. Scaling works ok with XeTeX, but fails with both pdfTeX and LuaTeX, so it might be a problem in the engine, not necessary in ConTeXt. The image comes out with several cm white border when it should occupy the whole page. Here are the testing files (temporary location): http://www.mars2008.si/context/ \defineoverlay [MyGraphic] [{\externalfigure[graphic][heigh=\paperheight]}] \setupbackgrounds[page][background=MyGraphic] \starttext whatever \stoptext + a big png graphic. When I decrease resolution, the white border around graphic shrinks. Mojca pdfTeX 3.1415926-1.40.9-2.2 (Web2C 7.5.7) This is LuaTeX, Version snapshot-0.30.2-2008102016, build unknown MtxRun | current version: 2008.11.10 21:40 (same problem on TL)

Hi all, is the command \definecharacter deprecated in mkiv? Some of my environments stopped working. Minimal example: %\definecharacter mytest \char"00F8 \define\mytest{\getglyph{name:lmroman10book}{\char"00F8}} \starttext Hello w\mytest rld! \stoptext I expected lines 1 and 2 to work, but line 1 gives an error ("Undefined control sequence"). So: is this command no longer available in mkiv? All best Thomas

Hi, I have a folder where I store my tex sources and generated pdfs. The problem is that now it is overflooded with temporary files (top, tuo,log,...). I remember Hans wrote somewhere that LuaTeX will hold temporary files in memory... But they are still there, on the disk. Yes, I know the --purge-all option, but it is too long to write "context filename --purge-all ", isn't it? It would be very nice if we could set an option somewhere (for example, in the registry) to NOT generate temporary files, and even log files (I never use them). Best regards, Vyatcheslav Yastkovsky

\setupcapitals[sc=yes] and \setupfootnotes[n=2] problems with luatex

Hi, The following minimal examples work fine with pdftex, but give unexpected results with newer betas and luatex (tested under ConTeXt - 2008.11.10 21:40 -- luaTeX-0.30.2): % engine=luatex \setupcapitals [sc=yes] \abbreviation [OTAN] {otan} {Organisation du Traité de l'Atlantique Nord} \starttext \OTAN \stoptext % engine=luatex \setupfootnotes [n=2] \starttext Test.\footnote{Here's a footnote.} Test.\footnote{And another one.} \stoptext The second issue has been reported recently. Need more interword spacing

Hi, Can someone suggest me global setting for interword spacing? I write chords above lyrics (with a pen), and often there is no enougn space between words. Best, Vyatcheslav

Hi, Otared, Wolfgang, Thank you for the help. In the ConTeXt Minimals, LuaTeX is working well. I'll use minimals for LuaTeX. By the way, do I need "luatools --generate" again after adding my personal files in the folder ...../contextminimals/tex/texmf-context/ user/context/? Thank you again. Best regards, Dal

mkiv and \recycleMPslotstrue

Hi all, With the minimals (ConTeXt ver: 2008.11.10 21:40 MKIV fmt: 2008.11.12 int: english/english) and mkiv, I get from time to time: (cont-sys.tex ! Undefined control sequence. l.123 \recycleMPslotstrue but, despite this, a correct PDF is produced, when I hit return in order to ignore the error. For instance this happens with the example given by Hans: \starttext \showstruts \start \tf \setstrut tf:\strut \tfa \setstrut tfa:\strut \tfb \setstrut tfb:\strut \tfc \setstrut tfc:\strut \tfd \setstrut tfd:\strut \stop \start \small \tf \setstrut tf:\strut \tfa \setstrut tfa:\strut \tfb \setstrut tfb:\strut \tfc \setstrut tfc:\strut \tfd \setstrut tfd:\strut \stop \stoptext I guess this is a dormant (conflicting?) thing from mkii… Best regards: OK

Maybe there is a bug in cross references with latest beta
