Actually I wanted to get proper imposition for “The Future of The Internet — And How to Stop It” on a computer that doesn't have ConTeXt installed and on which I couldn't install ConTeXt even if I had administrator rights. Sorry, but I don't understand the problem here. If people upload all kinds of junk, why is this an issue? Or does ConteXt live show or store data for other users than the uploader? I thought that it was not a hosting or publishing service. Thanks for your help, Pablo

Experience on writing a thesis with MKIV

Hi everyone, I finished my thesis, writing both my thesis and my presentation using ConTeXt. I am summarizing my experience here. Hopefully, others will find it useful. * Layout and Formatting: It was extremely simple to set up the layout and formatting according to the thesis specifications. Due to the ease of changing formatting, I experimented quite a bit with the formatting before settling down to what is in the thesis (The school wanted "nothing fancy"). * Organizing large projects: The product-component structure made it easy to work on single chapters. However, I could not get correct numbering for the components (If I compiled chapter-02, it got numbered 1). In the end, I was just compiling the whole thesis at the time, since it was pretty fast (~10 sec). * Fonts: Using different fonts with MKIV was really easy. For the presentation, I did have some trouble in getting Euler to work with the minimals. Hopefully, this will be corrected soon. * Math: The math alignments worked very nicely, but I had to do a lot of manual tweaking at a lot of places. Also, equations seem to like to have a tendency of starting on a new page. I tried changing penalties for predisplay and postdisplay (which are set to zero), but it invariably led to bad page breaks at other places. At some places, the equation overlapped with the previous material. I am not sure what was causing this (medium interline spacing, wrong calculation of the width of the previous line, or something else). In the end, I simply put a few manual \break[small] here and there. Being able to write unicode math made simplified reading math markup. * Metapost: TeX-MP interaction is fast and easy. However, debugging metapost errors is difficult because context does not stop compiling on encountering a metapost error. * Bibliography. For a large part, the bib module was very easy. In the end, there were a few glitches with the formatting of the bibliography (too title space between entries) which I had to manually correct. (Look for \help inside the bbl file). The bbl file sorted authors with multiple entries incorrectly. If I had authors with four publications in a year, say 2000, the came out as 2000d, 2000c, 2000b, 2000a. I wanted 2000a, 2000b, 2000c, and 2000d, so in the end I just edited the bbl file by hand. There was also problem with maybe year. If I had 2000a and 2000b in the bib file, but only referred to 2000b in the thesis, the year came out as 2000b rather than 2000. For this also, I edited the bbl file by hand. Overall, ConTeXt made writing the thesis fairly easy. I mean the typesetting part of it. For those who are wondering, ConTeXt does not help with the content of the thesis :-) I would like to thank Hans and Taco for providing ConTeXt and everyone on the mailing list for answering my various questions. Template from latex to context

Hi, I'm new in context. By now I don't start typing ConTeXt long texts, but now I want to start with one post-graduate work.... Sorry for the oversimplification, but I see ConTexT like LaTeX but with coherence (no conflict among modules) and more customization. I would like to know if there is a "template" for having the same results in context than in latex. I refer for example in style of page (margins, etc), style of chapters (for example "\setuphead[chapter][style=\tfd]"), etc. It could be useful for migration from latex to context having such file that specifies the styles normally use in latex. So latex user simply have to learn new syntax. I want to clear that I don't want to make ConTeXt like LaTeX (these are different, I know) else define the styles in ConTeXt than LaTeX users usually find. Thanks a lot, Xan.

\hspace variations

Hello, I have some problems with \hspace. I try to insert it between two images, and this is what I get 1) \hspace{1cm} or \hspace<1cm> gives space but writes "1cm" betwen images; 2) \hspace[1cm] does not work at all 3) \hspace[big] works fine, but \hspace[2*big] does not I want to get space twice as big, but how? What goes wrong with this code using xetex engine? Hi, in this example $V^0$ the 0 is too high (conflict with the line above). On the other hand, without math V\high{0} there is *no* conflict with the line above. ["conflict" means the given interlinespace gets bigger in this line] Thus, two questions: 1) Why does it has to be like this? 2) As it is not possible to choose a bigger interlinespace, is it possible to adjust the high/depth of the superset math element "^0" ? UPdating context fails

All, Running textlive2008 on mac (MacTex). The command: sudo CtxTools --updatecontext Fails with: ! Undefined control sequence. <argument> \??cv :\c!n :\v!one \setvalue #1->\expandafter \def \csname #1 \endcsname l.618 \setvalue{\??cv:\c!n:\v!one } {1} ? Any suggestions? D.

processing a file of figures

I am working on a book in which the figures are to appear in a separate section at the end. Is there a good way to do this? Right now I have a file which is a sequence of commands, e.g., \useexternalfigure[Graphic][... \placefigure[... \useexternalfigure[Graphic][... \placefigure[... where each figure is assigned its own page. The problem is that, while I can process this file by itself, when it is part of product file (this file and others are components), strange things occur. (Basically it seems that ConTeXt has problems with the running heads used throughout the book, and with finishing the file.) But before going into this, I was wondering if perchance there is a better way to get ConText to process a file that is no more than sequence of figures. I am using the latest ConTeXt and MkII. Alan
