Thank you for the checking. I typed the text and run it. At this time, it worked. There may be a garbage attached during the process of "copy and paste". By the way, is it possible to modify this code to use circled character a, b, c, ...? By using the command \sym{symbol}, I may use them, but is there a automatic way of doing that? Thank you again. Page number in the middle of the margin

Dear all, as said by the title of the e-mail, I try to put the page number in the middle (both vertically and horizontally) of the margin. I tried a custom command like \def\mypagenumber#1{% \vfill #1 \vfill } \setuppagenumbering{location=margin,command=\mypagenumber} but, unfortunately, I got an error message on the \vfill. Hi, I uploaded a beta. Not that many fixes (if someone can collect structure related bugs ...), only a few. For those who keep an eye on the source ... i'm rewriting ppchtex and it will be integral part of the core of mkiv (so that we have chemistry on board). It's not yet finished but i'm getting there. Interaction not working?

Here is a minimal example: \setupinteraction[state=start] \setupcolors [state=start] \useURL[wiki][http://wiki.contextgarden.net][][\ConTeXt\ wiki] \starttext \from[wiki] \stoptext Which typesets something like the expanded text of \ConTeXt macro instead of the expected hyperlink. bug in content interaction

Hi all, with the newest ConTeXt (2009.05.27 11:27 MKIV) and luatex (beta-0.41.0-2009052623) I get a strange effect. If i use \placecontent all is as expected, but if I use \completecontent the click on chapter 3 in the table of content jumps to chapter 2 in the pdf. 2 jumps to 1. A click on chapter 1 has no effect. My file: \setupinteraction[state=start] \mainlanguage[de] \starttext \completecontent %\placecontent \chapter{Die Häuslichkeit} Mein Vater war ein Kaufmann. Er bewohnte einen Teil des ersten Stockwerkes eines mäßig großen Hauses in der Stadt, in welchem er zur Miete war… \chapter{Der Wanderer} Ich verfuhr mit der Rente, welche mir der Vater ausgesetzt hatte, gut. bug in MarkIV ? section numbering

Dear all, the following example : ... \chapter{Blabla} \subsection{bla} ... is numbered 1 Blabla 11 bla The problem appears only if I "skip" the \section step. In fact \chapter{Blabla} \section{Bla} \subsection{bla} gives 1 Blabla 1.1 Bla 1.1.1 bla Is the first example the expected behavior ? I would better have think to something like 1 Blabla 1.0.1 bla Best, Amaël

subsection numbering

Dear all, I got a problem with the numbering of subsections : they are numbered using the \currentheadnumber of the heading containing the \subsection attached an example and the output. in the log, I get : structure : chapter @ level 2 : 0.1 -> Chapter structure : section @ level 3 : 0.1.1 -> Section structure : subsection @ level 4 : 0.1.1.1 -> Subsection structure : subsection @ level 4 : 0.1.1.2 -> Subsection [2.2] structure : chapter @ level 2 : 0.2 -> Chapter structure : subsection @ level 4 : 0.2.0.1 -> Subection structure : subsection @ level 4 : 0.2.0.2 -> Subsection [3.3] best, Amaël

Seeking a Deeper ConTeXt: Questions for Initializing

Hello, My name is John and I'm a nearly brand new TeX convert. All it took was one letter I wanted to look nice and now I know I will never craft an important document in another format again. Now, an obvious entry point is LaTeX, and indeed my first TeX document used this macro package. However, I couldn't help but stumble across the ConTeXt project in my investigation of the TeX landscape. The seemingly distinct separation of style from content, evidenced by the print versus the screen versions of some of the manuals, instantly endeared me. Within the same week, I found the comp.text.tex newsgroup. Lo and behold there was a quite active thread on LuaTeX, which I had just finished reading a presentation and a couple papers on the night before. On of the issues being discussed was the lack of a LaTeX document class for "thesis". This also involved discussion of LaTeX's shortcomings. I wrote into the thread that based on my (albeit completely theoretical) understanding, ConTeXt would be a wiser choice as a macro for any new department to begin requiring TeX documents. This was based on my vague understanding of the separation of environment from the content, as it were, and also on the multiple outputs available for the manuals. Since I see screen formatting as equally important, if not more, than paper formatting, it only made sense to me that the equivalent of a unversity specific documentclass in LaTeX would be a simple environment file in ConTeXt. This leads me to some questions I have about how great a fit for me ConTeXt actually is. 1) Can environment files be used across documents, or is it generally understood that every ConTeXt document requires its own environment formatting? (The latter is the view of someone on c.t.t, who said his perception of ConTeXt was that it was for typesetting individual documents and had less application beyond that domain.) 2) What is the state of XML output for ConTeXt files? I have to say I will find it hard to justify using TeX for documents if it means they are not translatable to XML easily. I'm also interested in any RDF support ConTeXt might have. I am just beginning my journey into TeX, and wish to learn the best macro package available. To me it seems like this is ConTeXt hands down, however the two questions above will indeed determine ConTeXt's actual utility in my case. Regards, John C. Haltiwanger P.S. For my first question, it seems easy to assume that if you can process XML files into standardized ConTeXt documents, the same would go for processing ConTeXt into standardized ConTeXt documents. But the question is too large not to ask.
