On creating my own fonts

I've been doing some searching on how to create my own fonts. If possible, I would like to be able to write my own program to at least draw glyphs, even if I have to resort to other tools to describe hinting, kerning and ligatures. My current knowledge is this. I read that OpenType fonts are actually Type 1 fonts embedded in an archive. So I used this 't1disasm' tool I found after wikipedia article on postscript fonts and used it to decode one of ConTeXt minimal distribution font file into a nice to read text file that looks like the transcript below, and it seems to be something I could easily understand if I find a reference. I would like to ask you if I'm in the proper direction. There are some issues I can't understand, like how can I make OpenType fonts out of Type 1 fonts when the later are supposed to only contain 256 characters (aren't they?). Or how to understand this text file format so I can write my own glyphs. Do you think I'm in the right direction. Do you think there's an easier or better way if I want to create fonts without using existing graphical tools? Delayed expansion of macro?

I need to use a macro like this: \def\typeSQLfile#1{% \startsetups header:margin \framed [frame=off, orientation=90, width=2\leftmarginwidth, height=\textheight, align={top,middle}] {#1\hfil\pagenumber\hfil\IfSQprojectname} \stopsetups \typefile[SQL]{#1}} In the following setting: \starttext \typeSQLfile{Library-procedures/details.pls} \typeSQLfile{Library-procedures/hlx$requery.pls} \stoptext This results in two problems; 1. The pagenumber is the same on each page for a file 2. The file name with the $ in it crashes the typefile argument (file not found), where \typefile itself handles the name OK. How do I solve these? In LaTeX I would probably use \protect on \pagenumber. G

RTF to ConTeXt

I have a RTF document I like to convert to a ConTeXt document. Are there tools for this? I would also like the other way around, but I understood that this is only possible through ConTeXt -> PDF -> RTF, or has the situation changed. -- Cecil Westerhof

Hello Thomas, Thanks for reply. My idea about the buttons came from student diploma presentations. One student does the presentation, while his friend turns the slides. Sometimes it's necessary to go back, so it will be handy to have buttons... But I don't insist; this may be my whim ) When I'm in hurry, I solve problems faster them I get solutions )) Unfortunately, I've already dropped the project I worked on (not by my will), so I loose any interest in it and don't try anything. Document Titles

I followed the wiki http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Document_Titles but the last part "Adding markings to headers and footers" does not work. I suspect "In ConTeXt: A more advanced solution" was put in later and the instructions in Adding Markings does not work in that solution. So, how do I add the markings in the "advanced solution" in the wiki instructions? G PS. This is what I would really like to have in ConTeXt. A gooed set of modules like a t-title, t-article, etc. Why after all these years has this not been added? It would make ConTeXt so much more usable for conceptual writers like myself.

Math problem

Hi all, I'm trying out ConTeXt Math. The very most of the samples of the TeXbook work very nice. I only found one problem, \atopwithdelims seems not to work o.k. That results in not adapting delimiters for \choose, \brack and \brace. Referencing formulae

Hi, Hm, it looks like that the referencing mechanism is broken: in context beta 2009-06-14 Luatex 0.40.5 \starttext \startformula \startalign \NC a_1 x + b_1 y \NC = c_1 \NR[eq:1] \NC a_2 x + b_2 y \NC = c_2 \NR[eq:2] \stopalign \stopformula As seen from (\in[eq:1]) and (\in[eq:2]), referring equations is straight forward. \stoptext Kind regards Willi
