How to learn context?

Hi, I am a C++ programmer by profession. Typesetting is my hobby. I used to use LaTeX and Groff with ms macro package. Then I found ConTeXt and I find pdfs created mostly by Hans Hagen awesome. How to learn ConTeXt so that I can create documents of similar complexity. As a programmer I find most of the information with google when I face problem with LaTeX. But for ConTeXt I find very little information. All I know is wiki.contextgarden.net and manuals written by Hans. -- Best regards, Shiv Shankar Dayal

footnote-number alignment

Hello, after struggling some weeks to get everything to work, i'm now nearly satisfied with typsetting via context. But there is one problem left for that i cant find any solution, even after googling for hours. I am typesetting documents with a large amount of footnotes, and want to have the footnote-number aligned to the correct decimal place. To explain: page one has footnotes 1 to 8, numbers are left-aligned, everything is good ----- 1 footnotetext 2 footnotetext 3 footnottext .... 8 footnotetext page two has footnotes 9 to 12, so I want to have 9 footnotetext 10 footnotetext ... but i only get: 9 footnotetext 10 foootnotextex. I think, there is no easy solution, but maybe someone can give me a push to the direction how i can realize that behaviour (btw same problem is with numbered lists) Any hint is welcome, Thanks a lot Achim Jander

Curiosity about math.random in LuaTeX

Hi all, This is a curiosity question about the function math.random coming from Lua and used in mkiv: if I typeset the following test file in mkiv, no matter when nor how many times, the sequence of numbers which are output are the same… %%% begin test-random.tex \starttext \dorecurse{25}{% \ctxlua{tex.print(math.random(110,150))} \qquad \ctxlua{tex.print(math.random(math.random(110,120),math.random (140,150)))} \par} \stoptext %%% end test-random.tex Indeed I guess that this is due to the random seed used by LuaTeX: is it possible to force a new random seed upon each typesetting? Enabling Ukrainian hyphenation

Hell0o, I'm starting an ambitious project using mkiv, and the first thing I need badly is Ukrainian hyphenation. I remember Mojca gave me some advices, but it was long time ago and things could change. What else should I do except specifying \language[uk]? Regards, Vyatcheslav

line numbering

Good morning everyone! I've discovered some strange behavior from line numbering (attachment). The size of the line numbers changes after a page break. Furthermore some settings for line numbers do not work. I tried some of the examples from strc-lnt.mkiv (at the bottom) … I want the numbers on the right side and would assume \setuplinenumbering [location=right, align=left]. Please have a look. Perhaps I did something wrong. Greetings Andreas

Whitespace around float

Hi, How do I set the whitespace around a float? I've read the manual and searched the mailing list archive and wiki but couldn't find what I was looking for. For example, how do you set the white space around a float to 1cm? Is it possible to specify different amounts for each side and top and bottom? TIA, Elliot

How do you position/move a MPgraphic?

Hi! How do you position/move a MPgraphic? Let us us say that you have the MPgraphics "somebackground" and "somecolorcircle" (See example below). These MPgraphics are both framed and used as a background, upon which "sometext" is written on. How can you freely move or position "somecolorcircle"? ( I want to move "somecolorcircle" below "sometext") Naturally, I have read Metafun and tried "shifted (x,y)", \definelayer, \setlayer, register, \setMPlayer, \getMPlayer... In general, if you have defined two or more MPgraphics how do you position them (In my case "somebackground" is fixed while "somecolorcircle" could be anywhere on "somebackground")? How would you solve this? references to footnotes are broken in mkiv
