serial letters

How would you approach serial letters, e.g. to all members of a club? (Actually I need to send out donation receipts.) I’d like to use the letter module, since my usual letter design is using it. I can export the addresses to CSV, JSON, Lua tables or whatever or transfer them to a SQLite db. Would it make more sense to read them in Lua and combine this data with a buffer, or to write a single tex file for every letter? I know how to do the latter, but I’d like to learn a more ConTeXt-ish way. Would it make sense to use the bibliographies module? x mark symbol and general symbol guide

Hi, I recently tried to typeset a table with checkmarks and x marks. \checkmark exists but is there a predefined x mark symbol (\xmark does not work)? In general: For LaTeX there exists the very helpful comprehensive LaTeX symbol list [1]. Is there a similar documentation for ConTeXt somewhere? textbackground spacing offset

Hi! I'm having problems getting the textbackground spacing offset to work. Example: \setupframedtext [offset=overlay, width=max, depthcorrection=off] \setuptextbackground [location=paragraph, %% offset=overlay, %% does nothing %% backgroundoffset=overlay, %% does nothing %% depthcorrection=off, %% does nothing %% topoffset=3mm, %% works, but only for positive values background=, frame=on] \starttext \startframedtext \framed{Foo} \stopframedtext \starttextbackground \framed{Foo} \stoptextbackground \stoptext How do it get the same spacing as in the framedtext case? chronological TOC

I wonder if someone can point me in the right direction for a separate TOC which needs to be in chronological order at the back of the book (i.e. not in page number order, although I need the page numbers to show up in the TOC. There is the normal TOC at the front of the book, according to chapter titles. I have succeeded in defining a separate TOC to place at the back, but have not succeeded in the chronological order! Here is what I have done: \definelist[chron][criterium=all,alternative=c] At the back of the book: \placelist[chron][criterium=all] Then at an appropriate point after each \startchapter I have placed (as an example): \writetolist[chron]{}{{\bf 29 April 2017,} Speech, Panama City} This gives me my list, but in page number order. How do I get the date (e.g. 29 April 2017) to be the ordering factor in the list. I assume it will be something to do with criterium, but am clueless at the moment on how to indicate this. Julian

Own command definition breaks with interaction: Use of \do_my_command doesn't match its definition

Hi, I want to make a proper definition of a new command to be able to process it in Lua. I found something on StackOverflow [1] but that breaks in enumeration _and_ when interaction is enabled and I do not understand why? Can you give me some help here? I want to make commands like \foo{bla} and \foo[b]{bla} possible at the same time. For instance, if one has a frame to the right of column 1, then the next table seems to acquire this setting as well, even if it isn't expected to have any frames at all. Note that each unique table is defined inside a macro. How can I make these table settings only apply to the a specific table? --Joel
