externalizing TikZ graphics

Hi, did anyone succeed in externalizing TikZ graphics with ConTeXt? It’s about a project with hundreds of diagrams that (in the current state) clutter the main directory with cryptically-named PDFs (at least sorted by component name) and that on each ConTeXt run take a lot of runtime (I guess also the many log lines slow the process). In 2013, Aditya said it wasn’t possible to externalize pgf/TikZ graphics as documented in the pgf manual, and "perhaps" it would make sense to use his filter module: https://mailman.ntg.nl/pipermail/ntg-context/2013/071162.html Did anyone try to do that? I didn’t find anything in this list’s archives. The original pgf way is two-pass, and you’d need to call LaTeX with the intended graphics name as --jobname; that’s far too much of a hassle for that many graphics. I generally like how the filter module works, as you can also define the name of every buffer, but my only experience with that is my LilyPond setup. If nobody has better advice, I’ll try to come up with a filter setup. That would mean we’d avoid the tikz module, every TikZ diagram will get written to a buffer of configurable name, and that (with preamble setup) will get run through LaTeX. I read pgf had some restrictions in plain TeX mode, but perhaps we can also use LuaTeX in plain mode to avoid the LaTeX dependency. Best, Hraban

Genealogy and context

Hello, My son is very much interested in genealogy. He already has collected information on thousands of people. Now it would be nice to be able to present this information in the form of a book. There is a possibility to have this done by a commercial service, however then it's not possible to adapt the format or to insert custom text. Media can be added but not in the way we like it. Genealogical information is stored as structured data. I have added a fragment of an Gramps XML file below. In such a file there are events, people, families and other groupings of data and these are linked by handles. What we would like to produce is a book with a number of blocks on every page describing a family: Father, mother, dates of birth and death, date of marriage, occupations and children. It would also be good it there are references to the grandparents. My question is: Where should I get started with a project in which a document is generated automatically from data? As far as I know context should be very suitable for this but I don't have any experience with this. Until now I've used context to make documents without any data being added automatically, except for the bibliography. Project Structure - inheritance rules for environments

Hi, I'm just having a look a project structure again. I am using the example given in the wiki: https://wiki.contextgarden.net/Project_structure, i.e., in my component I'm linking to the product, but not to the project. Now I was expecting that the component inherits the environment set in the project via the product. The wiki currently explains: "If you tex (compile) one single component (e.g. a chapter of a book) or product (e.g. one volume of a magazine), the environment file of the project is used." That does not seem to be the case here. Can anyone confirm this? Is this a bug or does the wiki needs to be revised? Best, Denis

Indenting on all TEXpages

Dear list, is it possible to enable indenting globally for TEXpage environments? Or is it recommended to create a separate environment for that purpose? Please find a MWE below. It seems to me that \setupindenting must be set explicitly for every page that needs indenting. Bug report: \setupbackend corrupts bibliography rendering

Dear gardeners, I'm new to ConTeXt and would like to share a possible bug with you. If I have the \setupbackend[export=example.xml,css=example.css] entry in my .tex file, then my bibliography renders in a strange way (text copied from pdf): 1 bfldcategoryarticle: [author: Andrej Arrow] [journal: MAPS] [keywords: context] [pages: 2-8] [title: The Font Name Mess] [volume: 40] [year: 2010] If I remove or comment that entry out, then the bibliography renders OK (copy from pdf): 1 A. Incorrect css reference in exported html file

Hi, This message is prompted by a bug report for t-vim (https://github.com/adityam/filter/issues/43) but the issue is more general. Whenever, `cssfile` in `\setupexport` points to a file now in $PWD, the reference to the file in the exported CSS is incorrect: Consider the following directory tree: test.tex styles/mystyle.css where test.tex is: ``` \setupbackend[export=yes] \setupexport[cssfile=styles/mystyle.css] \starttext \startparagraph This is a test \stopparagraph \stoptext ``` and styles/mystyle.tex is (the content doesn't matter, listing it for completeness): ``` paragraph, p, div.paragraph, div.p { color : red ; } ``` I am attaching a zip file for convenience. When I compile the above file, I get (selective lines from output) ``` backend > export > copying styles/mystyle.css ... backend > export > adding css reference 'styles/styles/mystyle.css' ``` Indeed, the styles/mystyle.css file is copied to `test-export/styles/mystyle.css` but the reference in `test-export/test-export-div.html` is: ``` <link type="text/css" rel="stylesheet" href="styles/styles/mystyle.css" /> ``` Note the repeated styles/styles. What is happening is that while copying the file, context is using (in back-exp.lua): local source = addsuffix(cssextra[i],"css") local target = joinfile(stylepath,basename(source)) while for reference, context is using: result[#result+1] = replacetemplate(csspreamble, { filename = cssfile }) extras[#extras+1] = replacetemplate(cssheadlink, { filename = cssfile }) Shouldn't the last part be filename=basename(source) to get the right name? Without that whenever the value of cssfile is a file in another directory, the css reference in the exported html file will be incorrect. In case anyone is interested, this manifests in t-vim as follows. The t-vim module includes a pre-generated css file which provides the color and style values for the default color schemes. The module provides a macro \vimcssfile, which is the complete path of the file (basically the value of `resolvers.resolve("full:vimtyping-default.css")`). The intended usage is: \usemodule[vim] \setupbackend[export=yes] \setupexport[cssfile=\vimtypingcssfile] ... In this case, the css file is correctly copied to the '\jobname-export/styles` directory. but the `\jobname-div.html` file contains a unusable reference: ``` ... <link type="text/css" rel="stylesheet" href="styles/opt/luametatex/texmf-modules/tex/context/third/vim/vimtyping-default.css" /> ``` In principle, I can work around this in t-vim but I think that this will impact others as well. \hbox to ... equivalent in ConTeXt (\framed)

Hi list. Is there an interface for \hbox to <size> via framed? I think it's not the ConTeXt spirit to do something like \framed[offset=0cm]{\hbox to 10cm{Uno dos tres}} where spacing is stretched so all the available space is filled, so I want to know about a better way.
