I was writing a reply to Dalyoung, but Wolfgang beat me to it. So I'm going to ask a question myself: I'm a bit desperate about columns. I want nothing fancy, just a simple two-columns layout for a few pages. Unfortunately, the two betas I have on my computer both have trouble. 2012-06-30 complains about \column: "undefined control sequence." 2012-07-19 throws an error which I've never seen before: system > tex > error on line 901 in file reader.tex: Bad register code ... That's the line where I have \stopcolumns. The full error is this: \page_mul_flush_preceding_ongrid ...ceding_height -\dp \d_page_mul_preceding... \page_mul_flush_packaged_columns_indeed ...ongrid \else \page_mul_flush_prec... \page_mul_flush_packaged_columns_continued ...eed \box \columnpagebox \egroup \page_mul_routine_continue ...d_columns_continued }\page_otr_construct_and_s... \page_otr_command_routine ...mul_routine_continue \or \page_mul_routine_bala... \page_otr_triggered_output_routine ...and_routine \fi What does this "bad register code" mean? I don't even know where to begin to look for an error - there is one \start - \stopcolumns environment earlier in my document, which does appear to work normally. Any pointers? Thomas

Dear Woldgang and Marco, Thank you for your correction. It works after bracing the \externalfigure command. Now, I have to modify the numbers of header, footer, etc to make my style. I also change the order of "\setupexternalfigure[directory=...]" and "\usemodule[simpleslides]..." to apply the relational position. Now, I don't have to keep two mode "my own" and "simple slides". Instead, I just use "simpleslides-s-myown". Thank you again. Best regards, Dalyoung

Dear Thomas, I tested making my simpleslides module "SsuWave" by modifying "simpleslides-s-Rounded.tex" (1) I just replaced MP figures for horizontal and title with some figures as follows for test : \defineoverlay [simpleslides:background:horizontal] % [\useMPgraphic{simpleslides:MP:horizontal}] [\externalfigure[/Users/graph/Documents/figures/background/ssuwave1][]] \defineoverlay [simpleslides:background:title] % [\useMPgraphic{simpleslides:MP:title}] [\externalfigure[/Users/graph/Documents/figures/background/ssuwave][]] But it does not work. I got error as follows: ! Argument of \douseexternalfigure has an extra }. ..... 22 \stopitemize 23 24 >> \SlideTitle{벡터의 연산 } 25 .... <inserted text> \par <to be read again> } \pack_layers_set ...group \edef \currentlayer {#1} \edef \p_pack_layers_state... <to be read again> { \61>simpleslides:background:horizontal ...uwave1]{ \executedefinedoverlay {si... \pack_framed_process_background_indeed_external ... \else \kern -\framedbackgr... ... (2) In the log file, I checked that it was read during the process. mkiv lua stats > loaded tex modules - 6 requested, 6 found (*-animation *-simpleslides *-simpleslides-s-SsuWave *-units simpleslides-f-default simpleslides-s-default), 0 missing ... Dear Hans and Thomas, Thank you for the reply. First, I tried \setupbackgrounds [page] [background=yellow-spring, state=repeat] but, there is no change. After the change "page" to "text", my figure appears but it covers slide title. I couldn't test \setupbackgrounds [page] [background={yellow-spring,exist-thing}, state=repeat] yet. As you said, I think that the best way to use my own figure as a background in SimpleSlide is to make my own slide template. I found "simpleslides-template.tex" and I may try to modify it to make a style file. I hope that I can do it using other samples. Thank you again. Best regards, Dalyoung

Width of text in startcolumns environment (MkIV)

Hello, I found following problem in version: 2012.07.17 16:42. The frame width goes over both columns (with texexec the width is only over one column, I used \makeupwidth but it is same). \setuppapersize[A5] \starttext \startcolumns[n=2] \title{Test page} \framed[frame=off,bottomframe=on,width=\textwidth,frameoffset=1mm]{ \startalignment[middle] {\tfx \copyright{} \date[][year] Donald E. glyph outlines

Hello to everybody, how to draw character outlines for plotter to cut the letters out of the plate in mkiv? mmakempy.pdf is over 10 years old, so the situation could change since then. Anyway, even if I stick to the above method, the minimal example \starttext \startMPcode graphictext "Test"; \stopMPcode \stoptext doesn't work as expected in mkiv. *.mpy file is empty. In mkii error is issued during the run. Ignoring it finally produces the outlines, so it seems, everything needed is available (gs, pdftops, pstoedit). Anyway, mkiv way is preferred. math symbol: blacktriangle

Dear all, The \blacktriangle and \blacktriangledown symbol seem to be missing, though \blacktriangleright and \...-left are defined. Is there a quick way to add missing symbols by myself from the knowledge of Unicode / XML identifier (http://www-sop.inria.fr/marelle/tralics/doc-b.html)? Cheers, Andreas

A "Lorem ipsum" module?

Hi all, in LaTeX, there is quite a useful package called "lipsum", for typesetting varioud amounts of "Lorem ipsum" stuff. Is there anything like that in ConTeXt? (I know about \input knuth, \input tufte etc., but that is not exactly what I have in mind, especially when giving a sample of some design to a customer;).) If not (as I suspect), what should I do to write such a module? I expect this shouldn't be too difficult, and I could learn a few things (like using key-value syntax in ConTeXt, for instance); are there any recommendations for people wanting to learn to write a (simple) module for ConTeXt (other than the relevant wiki page)?
