Hi, I uploaded a new beta. In the process of cleanup I kicked out some of the supp-* modules, most noticeably the visual debugger. That one has been replaced by another mechanism and a merge of some functionality already present in modules (and more might be moved into it). As they are often used for testing, \ruledhbox, \ruledvbox and \ruledvtop remained and all the others have been replaced by placeholders (and might go away). The \show* commands are mostly dummies (and will disappear) but these remain: \showmakeup \showallmakeup \showstruts \showglyphs Hopefully this doesn't spoil your playing with low level tex stuff. The good news is that the current implementation provides more detail, is more colorful, and comes on (pdf) layers (so that you can hide categories). \showallmakeup \starttext \ruledhbox{hbox} \blank \ruledvbox{vbox} \blank \ruledvtop{vtop} \blank {\definedfont[Serif*default at 30pt] g ff} \blank test \strut test \blank \input ward \par \stoptext You can use \enabletrackers[visualizer.*] with * being fontkern, kern, glue, penalty, hbox, vbox, all, reset, makeup, whatsit, and glyph. How to obtain a Polish en-dash?

Hello, in Polish we usually use "--" as a dash (between different parts of a sequence, for instance), but we surround it by thin spaces (and the left one is "hard", like "~"). Is there a way in ConTeXt (MkIV) to obtain this behavior using some "tricky" syntax (like |--| or just -- surrounded by spaces) or is it better to define a custom command, like \def\Polishdash{\unskip\kern 0.2em--\hskip 0.2em\ignorespaces} (this is more or less taken from LaTeX's suite for Polish typesetting)? \placeregister[index]—preventing page break before

I have been experimenting for a while with \placeregister and \setupregister and can find no way no prevent page breaks before a register. Simply inserting \page[no] does not seem to work. So can anyone suggest a way to do this in MKII? Alan

A problem with modes

Hello, this doesn't work for me: \definestartstop[amode][before={\startmode[a]}, after={\stopmode}] \starttext All modes. \startamode ``A'' mode. \stopamode \stoptext Can I use \startmode with \definestartstop? [callbacks] proper registration, node subtypes

Hi all, I need a (pre-linebreak) callback to behave the same way with the Context and Plain formats. *The sequence that nodes are traversed in is very important.* Afaict the callback will have to be registered as a “processors”/“before” nodes task. However, the behavior is not identical: 1. If the list contains a vlist or hlist, the callback is applied first on the inner list and then on the outer list. (Guess: it’s applied on the hpack_filter as well?) 2. In Plain, glyph nodes have subtype 0 (GLYPH_CHARACTER), while in Context it’s 1 (GLYPH_LIGATURE). Example code is appended. Questions: - Which node task gets me a behavior similar to the raw pre_linebreak_filter?[*] - Does the difference wrt node subtype matter assuming I only (a) copy glyph nodes and (b) manipulate their .char field? Any insights on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Regards Philipp [*] If this is not possible|recommended, what would a clean solution look like?

Typing of Indian texts.

Hello ConTeXist. During the discussion in CSTeX maillist fell a question about possibility typing of Indian texts with use ConTeXt. (using of Indian OpenType fonts), which is not yet in LuaTEX. Is somewhere any information available on this issue? I rate myself with no experience of exotic texts. I want get answer for my colleague in CsTeX conference, who wants to start ConTeXt use for these purposes.. Thanx Jaroslav Hajtmar

UTF8 in XML

Can someone explain why the "element-of" is not printed when directly put into the source, but only if introduced through TeX-math? The input file is in UTF-8 and in the texteditor the character does appear. mathml fails

>From the MathML prime I tried this example from page 74: <math xmlns="http://www.w3c.org/mathml" version="2.0"> <semantics> <apply> <eq/> <ci> e </ci> <apply> <times/> <ci> m </ci> <apply> <power/> <ci> c </ci> <cn> 22 </cn> </apply> </apply> </apply> <annotation encoding="tex"> e = m c^2 </annotation> </semantics> </math> It typesets nothing, same for encoding "context", same for "TeX", same for "ConTeXt". Anything else takes the mathml and gives the result. Why is the <semantics><annotation encoding="tex"> not working? Hans van der Meer

Hey list, does anybody know an useable font for sanskrit writings another then sanskrit2003.ttf? It is preferred to have the same range (with ligatures etc.) as the sanskrit2003.ttf. Best regards, Martin

font troubles

Ahoj, the following example works on itself, but not in the environment of my current project: \starttypescript [handwriting] [devroye] \definefontsynonym [Devroye] [file:devroye] [features=default] \stoptypescript \starttypescript [handwriting] [devroye] [name] \definefontsynonym [Handwriting] [Devroye] [features=default] \stoptypescript \definetypeface [test] [rm] [serif] [schoolbook] [default] \definetypeface [test] [hw] [handwriting] [devroye][default] \definefont [TitelFont][Handwriting at 16pt] \setupbodyfont[test,rm,8.5pt] \starttext {\TitelFont Test} \input knuth {\hw Don Knuth} \stoptext In the project, I get the hw font, but the body font is LM Roman 12pt. I get TeX Gyre Schola only if I use \setupbodyfont[schoolbook,rm,8.5pt], but that fails as soon as I define \definetypeface [schoolbook] [hw] [handwriting] [devroye][default] – in the minimal example that works, too.
