Recommended Books on Typesetting

Hi! I was wondering if anyone has any books to recommend, mainly in the area of typesetting, i.e., on TeX, typography, and so on. Personally, I can recommend Donald E. Knuth's "The TeXbook" and also his book on MetaFont. I am thinking of getting "The Complete Manual of Typography" by James Felici, which seems to be a very good book on the subject. New context Release notes

Hi there, For those of you who are interested, Hans has released a new ConTeXt last week, and I've created a release notes pages for it here: http://contextgarden.net/Context_2004.11.23 Highlights: * The XML interface description files for texshow have been updated, extended and moved to a private directory. * New support for the Vietnamese langauge and Vietnamese (t5) encoded fonts. * Extended support for the XeTeX executable (largely contributed by Adam Lindsay) * Support for the commercial font families Sabon (Monotype), Industria (Linotype) and Stone (ITC). * FoXeT improvements * a series of minor bugfixes and extensions, follow the link for those. thanks, that works now. but do you also know the answer to the second bug: When you uncomment the lines (testfile below) the columnset gets 2 lines shorter! I experienced this when I added before the literature component a catalogue component that uses a structure like the commented lines do. So I had two separate files actually! Hello, As I told before, I want the grey box as defined in the page numbering (see below) to appear with its outer border aligned to the outer border of the outer margin. Right now, it aligns with its inner border to the inner border of the outer margin. I tried with uitlijnen=buiten but without success. Problem with \defintion.

Hi all, I have 2 definitions in my document and every thing compiles until i add a third one, i get the following error: ! Undefined control sequence. <write> ... \twopassentry {\s!list }{\currentlist }{\currentlist :\noflistel... <inserted text> }\endwrite \immediatewriteutilitycommand ...ti {c \string #1} \stopitemgroup ...th =\zerocount \dolistreference \fi \iffirstlist \else \en... l.312 \stopitemize What does \stopitemize do here ? I use items with heads etc. but it comes later after my third definition, and the problem appears only after i add a third defintion. Hm ... Any help would be valuable. Thanks in advance. Dirar. PS What does l.312 mean.? I assume it is the line number. Is that right ?

start with XeTeX

Hello Adam et al! I just tried to use XeTeX (installed with Gerben's i-Installer, after that updated ConTeXt) and followed your instructions in the wiki (http://contextgarden.net/XeTeX), but I get always this error: This is pdfeTeX, Version 3.141592-1.20a-2.2 (Web2C 7.5.3) (INITEX) (/Volumes/Silmaril/tex/share/texmf.local/web2c/natural.tcx) output format initialized to DVI entering extended mode ! pagenumbers in margin

Hello, After a long period of "Context inactivity", I am again into document preparation. I want to put the pagenumbers in a doublesided document in the outer margin. So far no problem at all... but I want the number to be placed in a 3cm wide grey box, wich I do with an inframed command within the pagenumbering setup. This also works more or less, but (see if I can explain this in plain english without using figures !!.....) : The grey box with the pagenumber aligns its inner border with the inner border of the outer margin. What I want is the grey box to align its outer border with the outer border of the outer margin..... Any suggestion ? Geert Dobbels.
