Sorry if this is a double post; I sent this message on Friday, and I think it somehow got lost. In March/April 2002, Hans and Idris had an interesting exchange about the topic "critical editions in context" here in ntg-context; the main question was whether the functionality of edmac could be implemented in context. I'd be curious to know whether anything came out of it, I couldn't find any follow-up. Best Thomas

Struggles with \useblocks

Hi gang! I do not know why this does not work therefore the following: I have a document with several chapters. At the beginning an environment file is loaded. In the environment file there is a block defined as \defineblock[Impressum] and the block is immediately hidden with \hideblocks[Impressum] At the end of the document there is the chapter "Colofoon" \Chapter{Colofoon} \useblocks[Impressum] So far so good. But after compilation with texexec --final of the document there is the following statement in the log file. chapter : 14 Colofoon textblocks : second pass needed No block "Impressum" is typeset. By the way I am using: ConTeXt ver: 2003.8.21 fmt: 2003.8.22 int: english mes: english How is this to be explained? Willi

alignment of numbered lists

In Latex, the numbers in a numbered lists are aligned right by default. In Context, the default behavior seems to be left-aligned, which looks pretty ugly when item "9" is directly followed by "10." I can't seem to find how to change this. Any hints? Thanks, Thomas.

beginner question re: counters

Hi: I apologize for asking such a basic question. What is the correct way to increment a counter such that each time a macro is used, the counter is augmented by 1. So far, I have \newcount\MyCounter and have tried \advance\MyCounter by1 and a few other things I found online, but whenever I try to increase its value by 1, all references to it's value return 1. Not a particularly useful counter ;-) . Thanks, Matt

Endnotes and pagenumbering

I'm just learning ConTeXt, and am having a couple of problems with a document right now: 1. I'm try to set footnotes as endnotes at the end of every chapter, and have used \setupfootnotes[location=text, way=bychapter, conversion=numbers, rule=on] in my environment file, and use \placefootnotes at the end of the chapters. The endnotes are placed where I want, but there is no horizontal rule between the body text and the endnotes, and the numbering of the endnotes starts afresh with every new page in the chapter instead of being a continuous series. So I get endnotes numbered like 1,2,1,1,2,3,1,2.... instead of 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8..... I've tried way=bypart and way=bytext and location=page in the setups, and it didn't affect the endnote typesetting at all. How to fix...? 2. I have been requested to get rid of all blank pages in the final pdf file, but keep the doublesided layout and numbering. Currently the page number is placed on the outside top margin. Putting alternative=singlesided in the pagenumbering setup gets rid of the blank pages but also will put every other page number on the inside when printed duplex. So is there a way to set no blank pages but still have doublesided pagenumbering within ConTeXt, or will I have to do some post processing of the output file? Vertical alignment of formulas

Hello, Suppose I have the following code: blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah \startmpformula formula \stopmpformula and that it yields the following output blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah formula that is, the final "blah" is placed so far to the left of "formula" that it would be desireable to reduce the vertical space between the text and the formula such that we get the following output instead: blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah formula The question is now: How do I do that? Soul Package in ConTeXt

Because of looking for a nice letterspacing solution I had a look at the LaTeX's soul.sty. How to place footnotes in margin?

Hi, As ConTeXt is such a highly configurable set of macros (at least for those who know) I wonder if there's a way to place footnotes on page but not at the bottom - I'd like to have them e.g. in the margins. As there is no predefinded \setupfootnotes[location=inmargin] I tried something like \inmargin{\footnote{}The footnote's text.} Which doesn't really work - as it doesn't "flow": I you have a footnote at line 5 and line 6 then you have a problem because the second footnote doesn't wait for the first to be finished... Is there a better hack? Happy for feedback, Steffen
