Hi All, I have been following this thread with some amusement. There is no real optimal answer to this question short of developing a dedicated pdfviewer for ConTeXt. But, is this the best use of our resources. Furthermore, how about a dedicated editor? ;-)) (just joking, but I am sure somebody would come with the idea eventually, once we start down this path) As a Mac user, and one that shys away from using X. I use TeXShop. TeXShop has a multiplatform counterpart TeXWorks, distributed with TeXLive. It has a integrated pdf viewer with SyncTeX functionality. Its pdf viewer is based on Poppler. How good it is I can not say. But, it should not be two hard to extract it and turn it into a standalone. I think it could work as an adequate viewer. If someone then needs to use something better they can write the scripts they need themselves. Maybe, the TeXWorks guys could help. regards Keith

how to use \dimexpr and fractional values

Hi all, long story short: I want to calculate a width or height from user input, which is in the form "0.x" (as in "0.3\textwidth") since I want to use that number differently in different circumstances. Problem is that \dimexpr doesn't like decimal values. Example (uncomment second \externalfigure to see the problem): \starttext \def\myfactor{0.3} \externalfigure[mill][height=\myfactor\textwidth] %\externalfigure[mill][height=\dimexpr10cm*\myfactor\relax] \stoptext (silly, but shows my problem). How can I obtain an image of height "0.3*10cm" from my \myfactor macro? I tried to get my head around \numexpr etc. in the etex manual, but couldn't really figure out what to do. [fontloader] cached fonts have invalid tounicode values

Hi Hans, this has been reported by Dohyun Kim [1]: the generic fontloader (not Context) serializes some tounicode values as Lua numbers, not strings. When re-reading the cache file the values lose all leading zeros, so they are no longer well-formed UTF-16BE. ... ["tounicode"]={ [2329]="E001", ... Overriding pdfview

How does one override the default pdf viewer for MKIV Standalone on Windows 7-64 so --autopdf starts Acrobat Reader instead of "sumatrapdf.exe"? I don't have "sumatra" and do not wish to install it just to satisfy this one application. WTH is it anyway? (I know what it is, it's a rhetorical question). Making some obscure pdf viewer the default with no clear way to change it is not a good idea. For Windows, the vast majority of people have Acrobat Reader which is very often preinstalled. For Linux, it's less clear what the default should be but {xpdf |evince|acroread} are quite common. Can't speak to OSX as I've never used it but I'd bet a coffee Acrobat Reader is (or can be) there, too. I have searched through the source and tried editing l-pdf.lua but that doesn't seem to fix the problem. I shouldn't have to edit system source in any event. wrong space when compressseparator is empty

Dear Hans, I have the following sample: \showstruts \setupnote[linenote][paragraph=yes, inbetween=\hskip1.5em] \setupnotation[linenote][alternative=serried, compress=yes, compressseparator=, distance=1em] \starttext \startlinenumbering \dorecurse{500}{text\linenote{variant} } \stoplinenumbering \stoptext that shows the following issue: when compressseparator is set to none, ConTeXt doesn’t suppress the distance that comes after the separator at the beginning of the line. As a general rule, I think it would make sense to always suppress distance after separator when the separator isn’t set (not only at the beginning of the line). This wouldn’t only fix the issue described above, but it would avoid that compressed linenotes have more separation space than uncompressed ones. Could you fix this? compressed linenotes break right line range numbering

Dear Hans, I'm afraid that there is a bug in compressed linenotes that prevents to have the line ranges to be properly numbered. Here you have a sample: \setupnotation[linenote][compress=yes] \starttext \startlinenumbering \linenote{Without this note, line numbering from ranges is right}\startlinenote[one]{This should have lines 1 to 3.}line one\\ line two\\ line three\stoplinenote[one] \stoplinenumbering \stoptext It happens when compressed linenotes are enabled and there is a linenote before the \startlinenote. aligning texts and not lines

Using \setupinterlinespace with \setuparranging[XY], and more

Hello, I am using Willi's MAPS 37 and the "Example" section from the \setuppaper command: http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Command/setuppaper to print a set of labels, 2x6 configuration on U.S. Letter waterproof label paper. For the most part things are working well, but I have a number of questions: 1. A difference between MAPS 37 and wiki entry for \setuppaper is the inclusion of the following line in the later: \setuplayout[location=middle] which seems to play a significant role. Otherwise, I cannot get the labels to honour the topspace and backspace specified in the setuppaper command. My question is why is this significant? What role does it play? This can be tested by simply deleting the line in the MWE below. 2. I would like to have every label "centered", i.e., \framed[alignment=center] should be set for all labels. However, including it in the setupframedtexts command doesn't seem to have any effect as shown in the MWE down below. Is there another way for all labels to inherit this alignment setting? 3. I cannot get interlinespacing to affect the line spacing even though the baselineskip variable is changed as shown in the MWE. advTHANKSance. Dear list, I need for a document explaining some ConTeXt features, to be able to include a document inside (a page that includes the feature). I know I can create another document and then insert the pages, but it would be much easier for me to be able to have the code inside the main the document.
