The binomial coefficients do not look optimal

Hi, I stumbled upon this (see the attached file for the result): %%% Test file \setupbodyfont[10pt] \starttext \startTEXpage[offset=10pt] \type{\tbinom{n}{k}}: $\tbinom{n}{k}$, (does not look good, the vertical space between $n$ and $k$ is too big) \par \type{\binom{n}{k}}: $\binom{n}{k}$ (looks fine to me)\par \type{\dbinom{n}{k}}: $\dbinom{n}{k}$ (does not look good, too big parenthesis, even for displayed formulas).\par \stopTEXpage \stoptext %%% End of test file I think something should be changed to get the binomial coefficients to look better. In particular I am concerned about the rather big parenthesis in displaystyle (and not so much about the vertical space issue in \tbinom). /Mikael PS The result looked better if I used the lucida fonts, if that helps.

Dear Hans van der Meer, According to your word, I added the PATH to texmf-dist(texlive 2017) to the ConTeXt(LuaTex).engine directly. And, in the terminal, run mtxrun —generate and run luatools —generate once more. Then ConTeXt(LuaTeX) is working fine. Now, I can compile ConTeXt files using either texlive-2017 or minimal-beta. Hans, I have the following sample: \usemodule[scite] \starttext \startbuffer This is text. % and this is a comment \stopbuffer \scitebuffer \sciteinlinebuffer \stoptext Since \scitebuffer and \sciteinlinebuffer default to TEX typing when none is set, would it be possible to set colors to "none". I need it to be able to use both buffers with \xmlprettyprinttext and \xmlinlineprettyprint. Many thanks for your help, Pablo -- http://www.ousia.tk

In my case I have a text file called BetaCur.engine to be found in the run popup button of TeXShop. Letter module: Subject below opening

British letters typically have the subject below the opening. A stackexchange user asked many moons ago how to accomplish this in ConTeXt, and received a rather hackish response (https://tex.stackexchange.com/questions/22438/how-to-place-the-subject-line…) ConTeXt and the letter module have changed a lot since then, if my experience is correct. Is there a better solution than given there? Best, Parchd.

Dear all, 1. Today, I installed TeXlive 2017 using MacTeX and do a simple test using TeXshop. When I run a sample file using “ConTeXt(LuaTeX)”, then I got an error message: mtxrun | unknown script 'context.lua' or 'mtx-context.lua' I also did “mtxrun —generate”in the terminal which runs well. But “luatools —generate” also issue the similar error message: mtxrun | unknown script ‘base.lua’ or 'mtx-base.lua' However, it runs well under Stand-alone ConTeXt. What I have to do to make TeXlive work? 2. Recently, I also installed Textadept in OS X for test, and follow the steps explained in the wiki. If I open textadept in the terminal(open -a textadept), ConTeXt, lua, Python worked OK. But it issued an error message as following when I open it directly from the application folder. > mtxrun --autogenerate --script context --autopdf --purge --synctex=-1 "Main.tex" Failed to execute child process "mtxrun" (No such file or directory) > exit status: 256 In the terminal, echo $PATH contains the folder “/Library/TeX/texbin” which contains all executables of TeXlive 2017. Dangerous bend sign in mkiv

Hi, Is there a way to get the dangerous bend sign (which exists in the Donald Knuth’s manfnt) in mkiv? Head sections automatically marked for conditional text

The short version: I'd like to set up a context document with multiple user-defined heads, such that they can be conditionally compiled and/or altered. It seems that modes are what I want, but I'm having trouble figuring out how to automatically set up a particular section to be wrapped in a particular mode (if that makes any sense at all). Is this possible? The long version: What I think I want is something like: --- begin foo.tex --- \startenvironment foo \definemode[showexamples][keep] % Can I add some magic here in the following setup to automagically % wrap these sections with commands to start and stop a particular mode? \definehead[example][subject][style=\bfc] --- end foo.tex --- --- begin bar.tex --- \environment foo \enablemode[showexamples] \starttext \startexample[title={I'd like to be able to use modes to enable or disable this section}] I'd like to have a mode to conditionally show all of the {\tt example} sections (without affecting other content, etc.). \stopexample \stoptext --- end bar.tex --- The added difficulty here is that I need three kinds of modes (A, B, And C) with the need to support changing the layout, etc. based on what modes are enabled. I've gotten this to work by including \startmode[example] and \stopmode commands in the document, but I'd love to find a way to have this happen automatically by some clever setups for user defined heads, as above. (I tried playing around with before= and after=, with disastrous results...) I've worked through the discussion about using blocks against enumerations, found here: http://www.mail-archive.com/ntg-context@ntg.nl/msg83818.html ...but I'm hoping that there's a simpler solution (without the external file, etc.) Is there a way to do this within the current framework, or should I be wrapping all of this in new commands? Formulas and pagebreaks

Dear list, Motivated by this question on TeX.SX (https://tex.stackexchange.com/questions/388963) I found that formulas do not honour the samepage option in spacebefore. I could track the issue down to the \strc_math_obey_depth macro where a vertical kern is inserted which apparently introduces a good breakpoint. MWE is below, the line is marked with an ASCII arrow. Please fix.
