Buffer within a \def

Hello, I'm not very familiar with using buffers, so a basic question: Is it possible to use buffers within a \def? referencing the equation

Dear, The examples in mathalign.pdf(p4 - ) tells us the method of referencing the equation. The numbers for the equation is written as (1.1), and in the text, it is written as (1.1). That is the numbers are always surrounded by ( , ). In the output of the following code, the equations are numbered surrounded by (). But there is no (), when we referece it. resetting footnote counter

What I've done is the following: I've made a zip archive (see attachment) with a few relevant files – the two first files that will be a part of the book: preface.tex and how-to-use.tex, together with an environment file manual-environment-xasia.tex with a lot of settings, and the starting file sample.tex which puts everything together. This does not need odd things like exotic fonts, and it does not contain uncommon tables etc. I've changed the main font to TeX Gyre Termes, which all of us have (so I assume, since it comes with the major TeX distributions), so there should be no problems there either; but if there is an error message, you can comment out line 12 in manual-environment-xasia.tex and de-comment line 13 to turn the font into Times (or you can change the name of the font to anything you have on your computer). Right now I am using an iMac with the latest OS installed. The 'footnotes' will be placed at the end of the chapters (i.e., they will be endnotes). If you run sample.tex through ConTeXt and XeTeX (i.e., MkII) and look at the final page, you will see that the footnote / endnote marker has not been reset. Robert > On 9. A simple footnote question this time. I would like to print endnotes at the end of every chapter in my book, and then reset the footnote counter so that in the next chapter the first note will be ‘1’ again. I suppose this should be done by means of \setupfootnotes – but with which parameter? Robert

seeindex problem with recent betas

With older versions of ConTeXt (including that in TL18) seeindex entries pointing to a multi-level (plussed) index entry worked (visually, at least) without complaint. The output might look like: Digby, John 73 Dilbert see Adams+Scott Dirac, Paul 287 or Digby, John 73 Dilbert see Adams, Scott Dirac, Paul 287 where the second part is a literal repeat of what is in the second argument of seeindex. (It is not, however, linked to the plussed entry as it would be to a single-level entry.) However, current version (2018.07.27 19:12) generates a result like: Digby, John 73 Dilbert Dirac, Paul 287 along with the warning: structure > registers > invalid crosslink : Adams+Scott, ignored Surely it is better to display the non-linked see entry as before (together with the warning message so that the non-linking is pointed out) and have a printable document than it is to display an empty entry! -- Rik

Define the dimensions of a layout

Hello, I want the text area to be surrounded by a margin of 20 mm (top, right, left and bottom). I have already done this to have a left and right margin of 20 mm. \setuplayout [height=middle, backspace=20mm, width=middle] I think that I must now have : topdistance + header + headerdistance = 20mm footerdistance + footer + bottomdistance + bottom = 20 mm How to do ? question regarding \placefloats

Dear Reader, I have a document with figures and tables. I have tried to use the command \placefloats to create a list of all my floats as recommended on the page Floating Objects, section Flushing floats. There it states: The command \placefloats outputs all pending floats. I hoped to get a list with all tables, all figures and all other possible floats.That list would either be sorted per chapter or sorted per float. However, I was not able to make it work at all. In the appendix, you can find my struggles. First: \placefloats does not work. \placelistoffloats does not exist as a command My solution is two seperate commands, one for the tables \placelistoftables and one for the figures \completelistoffigures. Question: how to use \placefloats correctly to get a list of all floats? Second: \startcombination[1*2] looks nice, but does not add information to the \placelistoffigures . My solution is to place the \startcombination inside a \placefigure. Question: Is there a better way? Kind regards, thanks, Susanne
