Introduction to ConTeXt Wiki pages

Hi all, Just wanted to put the word out that I have posted two new pages to the Wiki, both aimed at new users of ConTeXt: https://wiki.contextgarden.net/Introduction https://wiki.contextgarden.net/Some_Basic_Commands The first is an introduction to the general principles of writing documents in ConTeXt, and the second is just a list of commands that beginning users might be likely to want to use to customize their documents. I expect that I will be continuing to update the second page in particular, as I find other such commands or am able to provide further information or links. I am myself a relatively new user of ConTeXt (I started using it this summer, having used LaTeX for many years), so there is a whole lot that I don't know about it. I have tried to test out everything on these pages, so while the information there may not be complete, it should at least be correct. I don't claim to be any kind of authority on ConTeXt. I'm enjoying learning it (including the many things that I have learned from this mailing list!), and since I have seen in many places (including at the bottom of each mailing list email) encouragement to contribute to the Wiki, I have begun doing so. I am continuing to try to learn about ConTeXt, and I have decided that as I learn things and/or find things on the Wiki that could use supplementing, I'll try to add what I can. The Introduction to ConTeXt that I have posted reflects the understanding of ConTeXt that I have gained over these recent months of using it, however good or bad that understanding may be. I welcome all manner of feedback on these pages (and of course feel free to edit or contribute to them, as appropriate). Right now neither page is linked to from anywhere else in the Wiki, so users wouldn't find them except possibly by accident while searching for something else. If people think that these pages would be useful, then I'd be happy to let the Wiki administrators decide where best to put them. Thanks, Sciurus

oldstyle numerals in STIX Two Math

I am trying to get the STIX Two fonts to display oldstyle numerals. I have the oldstyle numerals in STIX Two Text, the problem is the math font. So far, my mwe is: \definefontfamily[mainface][rm][STIX Two Text][] %onum=yes does not seem to work \definefontfamily[mainface][mm][STIX Two Math][] \definefontfeature[f:oldstyle][onum=yes] \setupbodyfont[mainface, 18pt] \addfeature{f:oldstyle} \starttext 123456789 \blank[big] $\sqrt{2} + 1234$ \stoptext Any pointers will be greatly appreciated. typos in sort-lan.lua

Changing the colors of Charts in luametafun

Is synctex broken in lmtx ?

Hi Hans, It seems that \setupsynctex[state=start] does not have any effect in LMTX version 2020.09.20 23:02, while it works fine with mkiv version 2020.06.25 10:55. Best regards: Otared

Modules installation in a ConTeXt LMTX distribution

Hello everybody, on my computers (a MacBook Pro with macOS 10.13.6 and a Mac mini with macOS 10.15) I have installed a ConTeXt Standalone distribution and a ConTeXt LMTX distribution. However, while following the directions contained here https://wiki.contextgarden.net/Modules#ConTeXt_LMTX the procedure to install the modules in the LMTX is not successful. Are the indications correct? Do any of you want to write them here? Thank you very much! Tommaso

Join Foundation to Support ConTeXt for the next 50 Years

Hello, In order to keep ConTeXt maintained for the very long term future, I am wondering if there a possibility to join a foundation like the Apache Software Foundation, Linux Foundation, etc. Also perhaps more to a more liberal license so there can be commercial use of ConTeXt with some of it trickling to as code contributions, wider usage which may further translate to support and consultancy work for those familiar with ConTeXt. If commercial system uses ConTeXt as part of their system there is a chance that is it is in their best interest to maintain it also long as these systems are in operation. Also perhaps it might be best than just depend on TeX maybe fork TeX and improve it in a ConTeXt dependent way. This way ConTeXt more feature-rich and easier to maintain than carrying the technical burden of TeX. There are system like SILE typesetter (https://sile-typesetter.org/) which are developed from the ground up and also The Tectonic Typesetting System ( https://tectonic-typesetting.github.io/en-US/) This is just some ideas which I thought might be worthwhile considering. help with filename containing spaces

Dear list, I have this sample: \setupinteraction[state=start] \starttext \def\cB{file.pdf} \def\cC{file with spaces.pdf} %~ \def\PathName{\cldcontext{[[\env{completepath}]]}} \def\PathName{% \cldcontext{string.gsub([[\env{completepath}]], "\\\\", "/")}} no spaces: \doifelsefileexists{\PathName\cB}{yes}{no} \attachment[file={\PathName\cB}]\\ with spaces: \doifelsefileexists{\PathName\cC}{yes}{no} \attachment[file={\PathName\cC}] \stoptext It works fine in Linux with spaces in file names. I invoke it with: context --purgeall --arguments="pathname={~/}" ~/a But in Windows, the actual invocation involves a loop in a batch file. Without the loop, it would read (for drag and drop): context --purgeall --arguments="completepath=%~dp1" file-above.tex I don’t get the attachment only with the file that has spaces in its name (the file is also reported as not existing). The file without spaces in the its name is being attached and reported as existing. Does anyone know what might be preventing ConTeXt in Windows not to recognize the existing file with spaces in its name? Many thanks for your help, Pablo -- http://www.ousia.tk

content of xml node (element) in lua

Hello! Processing XML I want to manipulate content of XML elements inside Lua. I can define the Lua function xml.functions.name(t), where processing happens, and use the command \xmlfunction{#1}{name} to pass the current node #1 from ctx to lua as described in the xml-mkiv.pdf manual. To access the element content xml.text(t,"/element") Lua function is used. However, using the same function xml.text("#1",/element) directly inside Lua doesn't work for me. Node #1 is available, but not the content of /element. \startluacode local node = "#1" local content = xml.text("#1","/color") context.par() context("node: ") context(node) context.par() context("lua: ") context(content) \stopluacode MWE (mkiv, beta) attached. I haven't found an example, so is it even possible? If so, which way is more efficient? Thanks, Jano

Hi, I've just published the first issue of a journal where the PDFs are produced directly from JATS XML with ConTeXt. That wouldn't have been possible without the help form you all. Thank you! Denis P.S.: I'l see if I can add some of the things I've learned to the wiki...
