I just happened to revisit this recently, wondering how to make the gwTeX/ConTeXt experience a bit more usable "out of the box". Instead, how about if gwTeX's default texmf.tetex/context/config/ texexec.ini includes the line: for tetex set TeXPassString to -progname=context -shell-escape That ought to be as safe as any ConTeXt installation, without negatively impacting risk for other macro packages, right? (disclaimer: I don't run gwTeX on my main rig (TeXLive for me), but I try to keep an eye on what's going on over there. loss of references after changing page arrangement

Hi Contexers, Does anyone know why I lose all my references to sections (\in[abc]) and pages (\at[abc]) when I specify a smaller page arrangement, e.g. 2*2? Kind regards, Robert Ermers

Dear ConTeXtnicians, Normally \bTABLE...\eTABLE encourages itself to the textwidth of the page that it is on. I have a requirement for a table which is occupying a full page rotated. What command encourages TABLE to a different overall width. I cannot find anything in manuals and archives. TIA -- Nigel

Arabic-utf-8 (plus a sample)

Hi gang, For Arabic we use a Latin transcription in Aleph/(e-)Omega (or even ArabTeX) unless one of the encoding filters like utf-8 is used. Even for utf-8 files, however, it would be very useful to be able to convert a utf-8 file to Latin transcription for further processing by Aleph/(e-)Omega. For example, adding diacritics is much easier to do in Latin than in an Arabic script editor because Latin transcription is one-dimensional and adding diacritics to Arabic is a 2-dimen affair. The best thing would be a perl script but I don't know perl at all (except to run some some precreated scripts). If someone out of the kindness of their heart could write a short and simple script for just seven characters I could do the rest myself and present it back here. Now all of the Arabic charachters in utf-8 can be represented by extended ascii. I need something like this, that converts every extended ascii representation of Arabic utf-8 into a Latin transcription: Ø§ => A Ø¨ => b Ø¬ => j Ø¯ => d Ù‡ => h Ùˆ => w Ø² => z If someone could write a perl script that can accomplish the above conversion, I can manually fill in the rest of the script. Basically I use a modified version of the ArabTeX transcription. Arabic utf 2 transcription

Hi cohorts, Thank you to everyone who helped me with this. I now have a working script for converting Arabic utf-8 to transcription. This is still pretty xperimental but I've tried it on some rather large files. I added a couple of small features to make some things like the definite article more readable. This experiment has also led to some useful improvements in my own transcription scheme (based on Lagally's ArabTeX). For example, Lagally's system incorporates some Arabic orthography rules for hamzah; these are moot when dealing with utf-8 for the most part, so I added a direct transcription for each hamzah-carrier. Of course u will have to adjust what follows to fit your own pet transcription. For some of the small features to work (like for making the definite article more explicit) one should move the entire file being processed over by at least one space (so every word beginning with the definite article is affected but middle-word occurrences are ignored). Persian has not been extensively tested, and urdu, etc is completely missing. Hope this is useful in any case. Hello, with the following example and the latest beta-ConTeXt, I get the following error: unknown reference [][bla] file proj.tex: \startproject proj \environment env \product prod \stopproject file env.tex: \startenvironment env \useencoding[ffr] \stopenvironment file prod.tex: \startproduct prod \project proj \section[bla]{bla} \in[bla] \stopproduct Strange, because there is no such problem without the project/product structure. Using \starttext and \stoptext everything is fine. Could you help please? TIPA in Context

I am currently converting my Old Frisian Etymological dictionary from LaTeX to Context and I have run into two problems. The first problem is that I am using the TIPA package to typeset phonological fonts and diactitica. Is there a way to use the TIPA font in Context? The second problem is that the dictionary has 142 seperate language indexes with over 32000 index markers in the standard latex index format \index[language_abbreviation]{...}. Is there an easy way to write one new (TeX) definition which interprets these markers in such a way that Context accepts.
