Hi, I'd like to use the stand-alone-version of ConTeXt with Win2k, but it doesn't work: F:\isoimage\usr\local\context\demo>texexec --make --all f:/isoimage/usr/local/context/tex/texmf-local/scripts/context/ruby/newtexexec.rb:8:in `require': No such file to load -- base/switch (LoadError) from f:/isoimage/usr/local/context/tex/texmf-local/scripts/context/ruby/newtexexec.rb:8 but f:/isoimage/usr/local/context/tex/texmf-local/scripts/context/ruby/base/switch exists and contains the required file(s). What's wrong with my installation or batch-file? TIA, Stefan .

Advance in columnsets/columns?

Good evening. I've been very busy in the last year or so, so I haven't been able to follow up change in the ConTeXt. So I dare to ask: Was there some advance in columnsets and columns in the last year? (I haven't found any mail in the mail archive on this topic.) I typeset our church bulletin in the column layout, so I am especially interested in these matters: 1) If there is some automatic balancing of columnsets, that would allow me to stop the columnset at the middle of the page, balance it automatically (not manually, I know to do it manually, but it's bothering), and start a new columnset on the same page. (I know it's on the edge of TeX possibilities, or beyond perhaps. But Mr. Hagen is a real Wizard---he has already implemented many things that I thought are not possible in the TeX.) 2) Or, what would be satisfactory, if the float-placement mechanism of ordinary columns was improved, so that I would be able to put a float not only "here", or on the "top", but also in the "bottom" in the two columns layout. installation problem

mp file not compiling

Hi, Is the mp support for btex...etex broken in the latest context (ConTeXt ver: 2006.04.27 15:59) The following does not compile, \starttext \startMPpage label(btex This is a test etex, origin) ; \stopMPpage \stoptext I get an error ! Unable to make mpx file. l.123 label(btex This is a test etex Even an mp file beginfig(1) label(btex hello world etex, origin) ; endfig end; with texexec --mptex gives the same error message. defineenumeration and setupenumeration

Hi, I have a question (probably a dumb question) relating to some of the define/setup commands. One in particular, but it may relate to the other define/setup commands as well. Looking at the defineenumeration and setupenumerations command in the Context manual page 223 and page 224 an example is given how to use these commands. I am a bit confused, the example setups the enumaration *remark* and specifies the location=top \defineenumeration [remark] *[location=top,* text=Remark, between=\blank, before=\blank, after=\blank] But on page 224 the command \setupenumerations is shown where one can also specify the location among others. What is the difference, reason or usage for doing this ? What is the proper Context way, should I define the location with \defineenumeration or with \setupenumerations ? Kind regards Wim

Simple problem with quotation paragraph

I am having a simple problem I can't solve by reading the manuals. I want to quote a fragment of a book which contains amongst others a discussion (Plato's Protagoras to be precise). Normally, my book has no whitespace between paragraphs and small indentation, but here I want a small amount of whitespace between paragraphs and also narrower. I'd like to setup some form of quotation paragraph style to use. I started out with \startquotation but I do not want quotes, so now I use startnarrower, but what I need is a paragraph style. Maybe another font (1pt smaller) is nice too. And noindenting while the rest of the book uses indenting. What I would like to do is something like \startBookQuote \stopBookQuote and on the inside I get a small whitespace between paragraphs, no indentation, a smaller font and a narrower textwidth. My last try was: \defineparagraphs[BookQuote][n=1,before={\indenting[never]\whitespace\startnarrower},after={\indenting[yes]\nowhitespace\stopnarrower}] in my environment file, but that gave me page breaks as soon as \startBookQuote was given and the quotes themselves do not receive page breaks, hence a quote more than one page (I have a few) ends up being a column of one page but just running from the page. So, it seems \defineparagraphs is out, because I do not get page breaks inside the quote. But what should I do? Thanks in advance, G PS. any sight on a decent ConTeXt book, btw? The manuals and wiki seldomly give me answers that work for me and often I find ConTeXt rather counterintuitive, e.g. setupparagraphs for something that is a table/column kind of thing, or confusing (\define vs \setup vs rest)

Part head centering and empty header

Hello I have coded my 'Appendix' like so: \setuphead [part] [ header=empty, footer=empty, alternative=middle, placehead=yes, resetnumber=no, number=no, style={ \ss\switchtobodyfont[60pt]\setupinterlinespace[line=2.8ex] }, page=right ] \startappendices \setuppagenumbering[way=bytext,partnumber=no,conversion=numbers,location={header,right}] \framed [% height=\textheight,% frame=off,% ] { \part{Appendices} } {\stopappendices} Which gives me a nicely vertically and horizontally centered title. One problem remains though: I can't get rid of the page number. The framed '\setuphead[part]' commands concerning header and footer are being overruled and I can't figure out how to have an empty header for just the page containing the frame. dbcontext

Hello, Just for your information, dbcontext-0.1.0 is now released and available at http://dblatex.sf.net. It is another attempt to convert DocBook V4 documents to PDF by using ConTeXt, by using XSL stylesheets to translate from XML to context macros. It is quite experimental but can already handle basic documents. Regards, BG
