texmfstart with figure library

All, I have a file figlibSection3.xml which starts like this: <?xml version='1.0'?> <?context-directive job module fig-make ?> <?context-directive job mode letter ?> <figurelibrary language="en"> <description> <organization>College of the Redwoods Mathematics Department</ organization> <project>Intermediate Algebra Text</project> <product>Chapter 1</product> <comment>Figures for Section 3</comment> </description> <figure> <file>section3figs-mpgraph.1</file> <label>xeqy2a</label> <copyright>College of the Redwoods Mathematics Department</copyright> <comment></comment> </figure> ... When I used to run texexec figlibSection3.xml, I would get my figures, then the gui screens with figure embedded. Now, with texmfstart texexec figlibSection3.xml, I get my figures, the gui screens, then duplicates of all the figures after that. Thus, two copies of every figure is embedded in the figure library. Is this new behavior correct?

formula legend

Hi all, I am using formulas and legends as described in the manual and encountered the 2 following (minor) problems (see example at the end of the message): 1. Legends: when using the units module (e.g. \Joule), the alignement is not the same as when using normal characters (in the example: the number 8314 is more to the left than the J of \Joule etc.. Replacing \Joule by J aligns it with the number below. This also occurs when running the example live on context-garden. Adding \null in front of 8314 doesn't help (why not?). 2. The RT of the equation is not slanted as are the other variables -- on my two setups (on contextgarden it is). Is this a version problem? (If it is, I don't want to upgrade because I'm sure I'll mess things up -- as I said, it's no big deal). \setuppagenumber?

I have updated to ConTeXt ver: 2006.06.09 13:05 and now I am having a problem getting the page numbers to increase. From a source file that has \setuppagenumber[number=142] in the preamble, I now get output in which every page is numbered 142 though before only the first was page 142. (The file compiles correctly otherwise.) Has something changed with \setuppagenumber? Alan

I have been looking at what I have left to accomplish before my classes begin in the fall, and I am realizing that I am running out of time that I can afford to spend learning more about ConTeXt. However, I would really like to give ConTeXt a fair shake, because I believe that it might be what I need for the future. I would also like to take Hans's good advice about setting up some basic page layouts and then working on the structure of my book in the process of converting it. But before I commit to the conversion, however, I need to know for certain that ConTeXt can handle the page layouts that I need. I need to duplicate (at least roughly) the three major page layouts that appear in my published text "Six Ideas That Shaped Physics": a two- page spread that opens each chapter, the chapter body style, and a two-column layout for homework problems at the end of the chapter. In the thread entitled "Newbie questions" on this list, I have been attempting to address the second of these three layouts. That layout is almost done, except for finding a workaround for a possible bug, and the others should be somewhat easier, though still will involve some work. I think that I can spring loose up to a few hundred dollars from my departmental budget to pay a consultant to help me finish setting up these page layouts so that I can focus on the writing issues. Would anyone on the list be interested in being hired to work on these layouts? If so, please contact me off-list, and I will describe the layouts I need in more detail and ask for a bid. Newbie questions

I am new to ConTexT and TeX (thinking about migrating from InDesign). I am using TexShop and the teTeX distribution on Mac OS X 10.4. I have two questions that I cannot seem to answer after studying the manuals and the archives. 1. I have successfully set up a doublesided layout that has a text column and an outer margin for margin notes and some small figures. I would like to set up a header that has the chapter number and name (e.g. "3. Third Chapter Name") on the inner edge of the text column, and the page number aligned with the *outer* edge of the margin and a 1-pt rule below the entire header (from below the chapter number to below the page number). How would one do this elegantly (or even inelegantly)? 2. I would like the math environment to be as close to the LaTeX AMS environment as possible. I have figured out how to download the t- amsl module and can successfully invoke it as long as the t-amsl.tex file is in the same folder as my document files. But how do I install it permanently so that I can invoke it in all my documents? I was unable to find instructions in the ConTexT garden for this, and what I could find on the archives was not helpful (something about "running mktexlsr" and/or "texhash" that I have don't know how to do in OS X, and would be afraid to do without instructions anyway for fear of screwing up my TeX distribution). extentable arrows

Hi, Does ConTeXt have anything equivalent to xleftarrow, xrightarrow of amsmath. Basically, I need a command that can do A \xleftarrow[subscript]{superscript} B should give superscript A <----------- B subscript and similar for xrightarrow, xleftrightarrow, xLeftarrow, xRightarrow and xLeftRightarrow. The closest that I could come to it was (only for superscripts) \def\xrightarrow#1{\buildrel{#1}\over\longrightarrow} But this is not extendable. \xrightarrow{big superscipt} Any suggestions? Aditya

Still font issues with I-Installer Mac OSX

Hello, I know that the font problems are a FAQ, but after reading the mail archives and manuals I am still having problems. I did a clean install of the I-Installer base installation (2005 default) yesterday and still get pixel fonts instead of outline fonts. Also I have problems using the adobe type1 fonts which worked before. I would like some pointers to resolve the problems as a lot of my older documents are typeset with ConTeXt using the old way of including adobekb file. Below are two examples of the problems encountererd When I create a very simple test file: \starttext \input knuth \stoptext # texexec --pdf test I get the pixel result attached. The output from texexec shows the inclusion of the font: </var/tmp/texfonts/pk/modeless/public/lm/ec-lmr12.72pk> Output written on test.pdf (1 page, 10344 bytes). Transcript written on test.log. The font maps are now set correctly per instructions of Hans Hagen automatically by the installer. active unicode characters

Hello, I believe, that I've already read something about this in this list, but I can't find it anymore: how to activate a unicode character? With iso-latin I could do "\defineactivecharacter X {special meaning}" but with utf-encoding, this does not work. And I would like to switch to utf...
