A problem with itemize in columns - once again, now with an MWE

Hi all, once again I have a problem with itemization in columns. This time, I finally managed to isolate the problem and prepare an MWE. The problem does not appear with Latin Modern fonts, but does with Pagella (I didn't test other fonts). It seems that the height of the square root sign is too high. \smash-ing helps, but I'd prefer not to have to \smash things manually. Can anything be done about this? (Note: I'm using the latest beta. In some earlier versions, \smash-ing didn't help, so it's not something of high priority for me now. No bibliography in the output, depends on file name

Hi, maybe this is a known issue, but I couldn't find anything about it, so I'm reporting it. I'm writing a ConTeXt document called modern-c++.tex (in OS X 10.7.5). The content of the file is: \setupbibtex[database={modern-c++}, sort=author] \setuppublications[numbering=yes] \starttext \completepublications[criterium=all] \stoptext (Well, I haven't started to write my notes yet.) When typesetting it, though, no bibliography is printed (I've tried with Mark II/IV from MacTeX and with the latest Mark IV stable/beta). Renaming the .tex file to cplusplus.tex solves the problem (there is no need to rename the .bib file). Nicola

Rotated table shifted on the layout

Problem with definelabel in recent standalone

The following code fails with the current standalone (ConTeXt ver: 2014.01.14 22:36 MKIV beta fmt: 2014.1.14 int: english/english), but works with TL2013: \setuppapersize[A8][A8] \definelabel [Qb] [ text=, alternative=inright, way=bytext, headstyle=\ssxx, headcolor=darkgray, ] \starttext \Qb[labelname]This is some text. As in \in[labelname]. \stoptext The problem appears to be with the alternative= key, which I do not see in the wiki for \definelabel but take to be the MKIV equivalent of the location= key (as described on the wiki for \setupdescriptions and presented in numerous examples on the mailing list). The location= key appears to be ignored, although it does not otherwise fail, when used in this snippet. The example produces: The same code in TL2013 produces: Any clues about how to fix this will be greatefully accepted. -- Rik

Problem with Standalone

I am trying to load the standalone but have ran into a problem. Platform: cygwin on Windows XP Here is what I did to try to get it all loaded and setup: #1 rsync -av rsync://contextgarden.net/minimals/setup/first-setup.sh . sh ./first-setup.sh || exit 3 The following files are loaded: receiving incremental file list bin/ bin/cygiconv-2.dll bin/cygwin1.dll bin/kpathsea620.dll bin/lua52.dll bin/luatex.dll bin/mtx-update.lua bin/mtxrun.dll bin/mtxrun.exe bin/mtxrun.lua bin/rsync.exe bin/texlua.exe When you want to use context, you need to initialize the tree by typing: . /opt/context/tex/setuptex NOTE: there is no /opt/context/!! It doesn't get loaded. Any ideas of what is wrong? Any work around to get the proper tex directory contents? Regards --------------------------------

Disable balancing of page bottoms

Dear list! Context (Mk IV) balances the bottoms of doublesided pages, even if I use \raggedbottom. How can I disable this? I'm thinking of something like "balance=no" for columns, only for pages. My problem is that I have a one-page float (rotated table) with the size of the textheight. The opposite page is not completely filled with text, which makes context crop the height of the page with the float, too, resulting in a shift of the float into the upper margin. Compiling to EPUB

This works and it will very likely also work for my project. I'm afrraid though that I left out an important detail, namely that the ToC itself must be mentioned in the ToC. What I'm expected to emulate is the following: (with real pagenumbers of course) CONTENTS Acknowledgements i Abstract ii Contents iii List of Illusttratiions iv List of Tables v Abbreviations and Library sigla vi Preface vii Chapter 1 8 Chapter 2 etc. So my real question should have been: Is there a way to place the ToC in an unnumbered chapter, which should not be at the very beginning of the book? Setting `before` option of chapter breaks header text

If chapter titles are styled using the `before` option, the header texts on each first page of the documents (body|back|appendix)part are incorrect, because chapter name and number are empty. (Tested with ConTeXt version 2013.05.28 00:36 and 2013.09.03 10:22) Is this a bug? (If not, is there any other way to set `before` without breaking the headers?) reset blocks with dorecurse

Is there a way to empty the blocks after each recurse cycle. If i make three exams with the command \dorecurse[3], in the first exam i found the hints and the answers of all exams. Feature Request: Set Output Directory

Hi, Summary: If the --result parameter includes a path then ConTeXt should assume that that directory is writable thus read/write its temporary flies at that location instead of the current working directory (CWD). Consider the following three accounts: - ConTeXt installation account (e.g., "context") - Web server account (e.g., "web") - Application account (e.g., "app") ConTeXt is run using the web server account. The web server's CWD is set to the application directory. For security reasons, the "web" account may not create files in the "app" account. When ConTeXt is called by the "web" account, the CWD is an "app" account subdirectory. This subdirectory contains scores of .tex input files that control various themes for the final rendered document. Many different users, through this web-based application, create different content .tex files. I would like to run context as the web user within the app directory, where the input .tex files are located; effectively, as the "web" account, this would look like: cd /home/app/public_html/book/context source /home/context/bin/context/tex/setuptex /home/context/bin/context/tex/texmf-linux-64/bin/context /home/web/users/1/book.tex --result=/home/web/users/1/book.pdf Since the "web" account cannot write to the "app" directory, this causes the following error: ! I can't write on file `book.log'. The following is also not possible as the "web" account: cd /home/web/users/1/ source /home/context/bin/context/tex/setuptex /home/context/bin/context/tex/texmf-linux-64/bin/context book.tex This fails because the book.tex file includes files that are in the "app" directory, which cannot be found. Since the "book.tex" file will be in a different directory for every user, a symbolic link in each book directory would probably resolve the issue, but that's a bit wasteful. I have updated TEXMFCACHE in texmfcnf.lua to point to /var/cache/context/texmf-cache/ (world-writable), but it didn't help. It seems that ConTeXt assumes write permissions to the current working directory, which is not a valid assumption. Thoughts? P.S. Also, the --result parameter should be listed in the --help page (or the --help page should list --all as a way to see all the options).

Difficulties with \startformula

Hi, 1- I put here a far too long example to show difficulties that I have with formulas in conjunction with framed: I haven't find a way to insert a formula (displaystyle, vertical mode), at the beginning of a \framed. 2- It might be related with this other thing: The last examples are about mouse text selection with Okular (haven't tried with another viewer): When I "mouse text select" elements of the formula, when the \startformula \stopformula in embeded in a \hbox, what is highlighted looks alright. Instead, when it's in "vertical mode", what is highlighted is very very large. It's probably not the purpose of pdf documents, but this select (and copy) feature is very convenient. This feature is rather impinged with this not so nice looking behavior. Latest beta: file publ-old.mkiv not found

autohang doesn't work (Mk IV)

Dear list, I'm using an updated Context minimals beta, and can't get autohang to work (in Mark IV). "autohang=yes" seems to be ignored. [***SPAM***] Invoice Example

I copied the three files required for the invoice example on the wiki garden. invoice.tex, invoicefunctions.tex, adn invoicesetup.tex $ context invoice.tex The above compiles without error, but the resulting pdf doesn't give me what I would expect. There is a " Regression in latest release of iT E X " In the main body of the document, which I don't think should be there. My setup: mtx-context | current version: 2013.09.03 16:23 Is the source out of date with the context version I am using or am I missing something? Thanks

\defineframedtext take precedence over \defineframed and add "extra padding"

In the following example \defineframedtext take precedence over \defineframed, and also I don't know how I can get rid of the "extra padding" (looks like a good \baselineskip before the text). (What I want is the first output, but with the readability of \startXY \stopXY) As for the "take precedence", I can change the name; But for the extra padding I don't know how to remove it. I could add a \vskip-\baselineskip at the beginning, but there is probably a better solution. Include PDF Fails

Hi, I am trying to include a single test page in my document. The following code fails to set the PDF as the background layer for the cover page. I've tried several variations (http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Including_pages_from_PDF_documents) but nothing works. It seems to be a problem with this specific PDF being included. Bug in \placefigure[right]?

Hello! For a while I've been baffled by a weird bug where sometimes I get overset text when using \placefigure[right]. The problem appeared sometime this autumn in places where everything has worked before. This far I've (reluctantly) worked my way around the bug by using hard line breaks where needed, but the current project has so many of those spots that a more flexible solution would be nice. On the other hand, just because I have so many of them and some appeared today, I realized that the problem can be related to {\tfx } in the beginning of the line. kpfonts, math, type 1 font

Hi everybody, (best wishes for this new year by the way). There is this font: http://www.ctan.org/pkg/kpfonts Which is a postscript type 1 font, text and math. I've copied the files in the right places in the ${HOME}/texmf tree. And a call to: mtxrun --script fonts --list --all --pattern=*kp*, after a mtxrun --script fonts --reload seems to indicate that it is found by context all right. But now I haven't got the faintest idea on how to use it in a ConTEXt document -- text + math. My ConTEXt is beta not older than a fortnight. All examples I've found that could possibly apply were at least far too complicate for my understanding, also likely outdated. Regards, Chris

Mixing math and text font

Malayalam shaping with mkiv/LuaTeX

Hello, especially Hans and Kai, I have succeeded to an extent in adding Malayalam shaping to the existing Devanagari shaping. Being a complete novice in Lua and mkiv, I'm at a point where your expertise is needed to proceed further. Please find the attached patch, test case listed below and expected rendering for comparison. Additionally needed to support: 1. Decomposing 2 part Matras (dependent vowels) - 0D4A, 0D4B, 0D4C for Malayalam [Test cases 2 & 4]. This is needed (at least) for Tamil also. I guess it is as simple as replacing one code point with 2 others - example: replace 0D4A with 0D46, 0D3E. See page 3 of this Unicode standard: http://www.unicode.org/charts/PDF/U0D00.pdf 2. Handling "pref" opentype feature for v2 opentype spec (script tag "mlm2"). This is required for Malayalam Ra ligature, the glyph is formed correctly but it needs to be reordered as pre-base to the base syllable [Test case 1]. (Note that the old spec "mlym" handles "Ra form" as "pstf" and no reordering required). You can observe the difference in Test case 5 - Ra form should be attached to first consonant instead of second one ("mlm2" needs glyph formed by Virama+Ra to be reordered as pre-base to first consonant, while "mlym" doesn't need to). 3. Handling "pstf" opentype feature. It works mostly [Test case 8], except when a post-base Matra follows [Test case 9]. 4. Test cases 6 & 7 shows an example where glyph formation fails when a "pstf" Ya follows. This works correctly with some other conjuncts, though. 4. font-odv.lua hard coded Devanagari Virama (094D) and Ra (0930) in certain places, which needs to use table values to handle other scripts. 5. I had to change "methods.deva" to "methods.mlym" and "methods.dev2" to "methods.mlm2" to get this working, not sure how best to handle multiple scripts. 6. Hi, As some of you might have noticed, we're in transition to luatex 0.80 (currently 0.78.1). This binary is somewhat faster with respect to nodes without modification of Lua code, but it also provides an additional node field access mechanism. Luigi and I spent quite some time on getting that done and in the process some 70 context files were adapted (as we needed to test). However, it's likely that I have missed some needed changes. As both access mechanisms cannot be mixed, one has to be consistent in usage. Also, the somewhat faster (new) usage is more sensitive for errors so it has to be used with robust (proven) code (read: pluggable code can best use the traditional node field accessors which also have been sped up). And of course it only makes sense for very demanding cases (as stock luatex is already rather efficient now), think of devanagari (where we can get 50% faster) and complex arabic (some 25%). As ConTeXt spends > 50% of its time in Lua it might make a difference in other places too. Anyway, for instance the 175 fonts-mkiv manual processes 10% faster due to this and sometimes more can be achieved (it really depends on how much Lua enhanced mechanisms are used). Roughly I get on my win 8.1 64 bit laptop for the font manual: 10 sec luatex 0.77 with previous context code base 10.25 sec luatex 0.77 with current context code base 9.00 sec luatex 0.78 with current context code base 7.50 sec luajittex 0.78 with current context code base (This manual loads quite some fonts in the process.) In case you wonder why speed is an issue: it really matters when tex is used as a service, and I like fast edit-test cycles too. The target is to get 20 pps or more even for complex documents. It's not that hard to get 550 pps for simple 1000 page one-word-per page documents but when much more kicks in we quickly drop to 15-20 pps. Also, Luigi and I also want to reach reasonable speeds on android phones (triggered by Harald's experiments at the context meeting) but that's another topic. Hi all, this is my first message here. In the subsection head, I would like to suppress the newline between the number and the text, so it behaves like some kind of numbered subsubject. I tried to modify some examples from the wiki, but without success. In http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Command/setuphead , most of the options are not explained. My purpose is to define something like: \definehead[Exercise][subsection] \setuphead [Exercise] [alternative=Mine?, ..., numberstyle=bold] So I can typeset a list of exercises in a compact way. trouble with the title page using the FramedTitle style of the simpleslides module

I'm working with the simpleslides module and am trying to prepare a presentation using the FramedTitle style. Things are mostly OK, but I notice one curious problem with the title page. Try this out on the live ConTeXt installation: % -- the beginning \usemodule[simpleslides] [ style=FramedTitle, ] \setupTitle[ title={Why is this red?}, author={You}, date={\date[y=2014,m=1,d=07]}, ] \placeTitle \SlideTitle{this is white (maybe grey)} text in black as expected % -- the end What I notice is that the text on the title page (title, author, date) is * in red on a red background (quite hard to read), and * not centered (even though in the documentation for the simpleslides module and the examples it contains the content on the titleslide ought to be centered). I'm using an up-to-date ConTexT; I have the minimals installed on my machine and just did an update today using $ ./first-setup.sh --modules=all I'm running in mkiv mode in the sense that I run simply $ context slides.tex and I can confirm, using $ which context that I really am running the ConTeXt that I expect. In any case, the curiosity I describe can be replicated using the live ConTeXt on the ConTeXtgarden. Can you see what might be going wrong? Thanks, Jesse

Hi, i find the quotation marks in those chinese fallback fonts can not work as before. Headertexts in the center

Hi there, with \setupheadertexts which takes four arguments, one can place headertexts on four places on a double-page. But how one can place only two headertexts at the top-center of the even/odd pages? So the arguments should not be places (left-right)-(right left) but simply (center)-(center). Thanks! Huseyin

context mkiv output options

Can MKIV ConTeXt output image files. I need to create an image file from a document and would prefer use Context to output it directly if possible and not have to convert a pdf file to an image file such as png or tiff. Is there a command line option for this. I looked at the outpuf from $ context --help , but cold find no answer there. It did not even mention the --pdf option, which does exist. Thanks

Some questions on float combinations

Hi all, recently I finished typesetting a block of inset illustrations for a journal on history, which I first implemented in LaTeX and then moved to ConTeXt (I am using a version from TeXLive 2013 packaged with openSUSE 13.1). Basically I am greatly satisfied with the result, as the code looks much clearer now. However, I still see some things which can be done in LaTeX by a more natural way. First of all, is there a dedicated method to rotate an entire combination or floatcombination by 90 degrees? I see floats have a special option to control this, but float combinations don't (am I right here?). And if I enclose a float combination into a \rotate command, then the height of the rotated block seems to be incorrectly calculated, so that about a half of the block goes outside of the upper page boundary. Second, not all image combinations can be described by a simple matrix, and the documentation doesn't explain what to do in such more complex cases (nor the Wiki does). For example, in my document some pages have three images ordered in two columns: one relatively tall image side-by-side with two smaller ones. To make the things worse such combinations are usually placed on landscape pages. The obvious solution here seems to be to somewhow group two smaller images and then put them into a float combination. Unfortunately, this doesn't work, as floatcombination seems to ignore all enclosed boxing commands/environments and even nested float combinations. Finally I managed to achieve the desired layout by defining a set of parallel paragraphs, which fortunately worked even inside a \rotate command (columns and columnsets with embedded floats didn't). Problem with creation of a new alignment

Hello all in 2014, the following minimal example does not work, neither with start-stop marks, nor with \setupalign, nor with both. I use CTX from TeXlive 2013. The same behaviour has been found in TL2012 whereas in TL2011 and 2010 it works properly. What is the new way to define some new alignments? XML and ConTeXt - no XML text showing up in output

I'm following the instructions in http://pragma-ade.com/general/manuals/xml-mkiv.pdf for using XML in ConTeXt. When I run the first example, I get a PDF, but only the hard-coded text string "Contents" is in the PDF; none of the strings from the XML file are in the PDF. But the last time it did not work. Avoid system fonts

Loading the fonts (?) takes too much time -- or maybe the programme is stuck, I don't know because I interrupted after a very long time at: fonts > names > globbing path '/System/Library/Fonts/**.ttf' How can I avoid that, I don't use system fonts. Hi, I uploaded a current. As we're now moving forward to luatex 0.80 (with currently 0.78 as beta) the current reflects the < 0.78 state of affairs. From now on betas might use new luatex functionality so best update to 0.78+ (unless i mess up too much older luatex's will work ok too). The upcoming months the redone bibtex support will also en dup in the code base (given that it passes Thomas and Allan quality assessments). The minimals are now windows 32 and windows 64 aware. There are two installation zips on the garden. If you're on 64 bit but still run 32 bit, you can best - wipe context/bin (where the installer files live) - unzip the new installer zip - remove the status file - remove context/tex/texmf-mswin (the new binaries are in context/tex/texmf-win64) and run the status-update script. Or just install the while lot fresh (which is fast anyway), and keep the old trees for a while. For print books the half-title page is backed by a blank page but the full title page is backed by the copyright page. The first page of the bodymatter (chapter 1 in most cases) is recto faced by a blank verso. There are workarounds that obtain this layout. First \standardmakeup command must be modified thus: \setupmakeup[standard][page=yes, doublesided=no] Then to get a blank page after the half title We must insert a dummy page thus: \startstandardmakeup \null \stopstandardmakeup These two moves put a blank page after the half title but forbid it thereafter. The blank page after \startbodymatter, after \startbackmatter and after \startappendix is provided by: \setupsectionblock[frontpart][page=] \setupsectionblock[bodypart] [page=] \setupsectionblock[backpart] [page=] \setupsectionblock[appendix] [page=] This combination of workarounds gets the job done. There may be other combinations that do it as well. My suggestion is that all the above setup commands should be built into context. It takes some exploration of the mailing list to ferret out these layout techniques. I have already added them to my boilerplate macros.tex file that I insert in every book layout file. Comfortaa font and ligatures

Dear all, I would like to use the comfortaa font available at http://www.dafont.com/comfortaa.font. [metapost] troubles with labels

Dear all, with this minimalist content of metapost file: ``` beginfig(1); dotlabel.ulft("A", origin); endfig; end. ``` And this conteXt file: ``` \starttext \startMPrun input mymp.mp; \stopMPrun \externalfigure[mprun.21][width=5cm] \stoptext ``` The resulting pdf file contains no figure. But this conteXt file works: ``` \starttext \startMPcode dotlabel.ulft("A", origin); \stopMPcode \stoptext ``` As with any metapostfile which does not contain labels. But as soon as there is label, their is no figure. Two last things: if I compile the metapost file with standalone metapost, I can include the resulting file as an external figure. But if I put a label "A'", while with displaying figure with a viewer it is ok, when included in a conteXt file, I only obtain "A" label. Also, if I try to change the font in the metapost file (for example defaultfont:="pplr8r";) it does not work in conteXt. Do you have an explanation or workaround? Thank you

Centering the last line in combination subcaptions

Hello Everyone, I try to fill the entire page with two images with their captions. The final page should be floating, keeping both images together and not containing any other text. I found this solution. It work fine for short captions / wide images. \starttext test \startplacefigure[location=page, number=no, title={}] %\setupcombinations[align={hz, hanging}] %\setuptolerance[strict] {\startcombination[1*2] {\externalfigure[cow]} {\input{ward}} {\externalfigure[cow]} {\input{ward}} \stopcombination} \stopplacefigure \stoptext If captions are long and the image narrow, they are typeset on multiple lines. Default centering produces the ragged column - both not very nice and difficult to read. When the alignment is set to hanging, it looks better except the last line which is not centered. Is there any settings for centering the last line? Can the 'column' width be somehow extended to e.g. 80% of text width? If not via the 'combination', are there any better alternatives for my use case? Any hint is appreciated. Thanks, Jan

Hi, I'm writing math and I'm using "modern", and I would like to use "doublestroke". There is an example here, http://www.ntg.nl/pipermail/ntg-context/2008/037124.html, but I think it's not likely to work since families aren't used anymore. I really can't think how it should be done, and all I've found would be through some substitution mechanism as described in "fonts-mkiv.pdf". I could use an example of replacing a "vector" of a font, by another font. There might be things too with "simplefonts" and "fallback" mechanism, but I haven't seen examples with math. pdf format

In the past, when viewing the pdf produced by ConTeXt in the viewer of my browser (Safari) there is shown one page at a time. Old ones still do this. But pdf produced nowadyas is different, 4 pages appear in the browser window. The same happens for example looking at the latest LuaTeX manual. Has something changed in pdf production? Perhaps some parameter that the Adobe-plugin of the browser lets show the pdf that way? And if this is indeed the case, how can I get the original behaviour of one page per view back? Error in the latest beta

ConTeXt hyphenation patterns for Indic languages

Hello, I have tried to generate the hyphenation patterns for Malayalam language from the TeX hyphenation patterns, but the unicode characters were skipped. On TeXLive 2013, ConTeXt version 2013.04.20, this is what was tried: 1. Uncommented line for "ml" in mtx-patterns.lua 2. Ran "mtxrun --script patterns --convert --path=/usr/share/texlive/texmf-dist/tex/generic/hyph-utf8/patterns/txt/ --destination=/usr/share/texlive/texmf-dist/tex/context/patterns/" 3. Output shows all patterns are removed with similar messages to: "mtx-patterns | removing line with suspected utf character അ (0x0D05), category lo: 1അ1" What is the proper way to add hyphenation patterns for a new language? In addition, how to add a 'new language' to the ConTeXt base (such that \language[ml] can be used? I'm looking in https://foundry.supelec.fr/frs/?group_id=10&release_id=406#luatex-beta-0.76… I've been looking for a way to simulate data with different distributions (normal, poisson, exponential, etc.) in the .tex file. The use of GSL library is a good option, but it seems impossible to import in luatex. Another way is using the R-statistical through filter module***, which seems to work well in luatex. At this time I would try to import the GSL functions through python script. Table in header, or multicolumn header

Hello everyone, I'm starting to write some technical documents for a customer. I used MS Word in the past because that's what they use, then switched to OO Writer for the last job, but I'm not very comfortable with neither of them, so I decided to switch to ConTeXt. However, I'm facing with a problem. Page headings must contain a three columns table, with a logo in the left cell, a title in the middle one and finally some rows with a document reference number, the issue, the issue date and "page/pages" numbers. I'm not sure if I should use the \startcolumns environment (but it doesn't seems to work in headers or footers) or one of the various table environments. Could you give me some advice? Thanks for your reply. I am using a goodies file for coloring the accents. I am attaching that as well as a MWE tex file and resulting pdf. Understanding the basics of \define

Hello: I'm struggling with understanding the way \define is supposed to work. I would like to have a macros to generate tables and populate them with some specific data submitted as arguments. I apologize for my lack of understanding of the very basics, but e.g. the following code just doesn't compile: \define[1]\mytable{ \startxtable \startxrow \startxcell #1 \stopxcell \stopxrow \stopxtable} \mytable{abc} I would appreciate your help and maybe some references to read (if any) in order to educate myself. incrementing counters in tables

Dear ConTeXt-Users, I want to use counters in tables. But incrementing counters in tables doesn’t work as expected. For example, when I typeset the following example, I get numbers between 80 and 119, I would expect numbers between 0 and 39. Dear all, I am pretty sure that some of you are fond of typography so I dared to make you aware of a really beautiful game running on phones and tablets dedicated to typography. Called Type:Rider, it is composed of several chapters, each dealing with a period of time illustrating the main techniques, fonts and design ideas. The game is really well done in terms of picture and music, the character being two dots evolving on letters from the main font of the time with background extracted from well-known art scenes. Adding a space between multiple years from same authors

Hi, I’m using the apa-de style. When my citation includes publications from the same authors, then using \cite[authorFirstRef,authorSecondRef] or \cite[authoryear][authorFirstRef,authorSecondRef] will not include Spaces between the years, e.g. \cite[Dyer:2012ts,Dyer:2012hy,Dyer:2013te] => … (Dyer et al., 2012a,2012b,2013a) \cite[authoryear][Dyer:2012ts,Dyer:2012hy,Dyer:2013te] => … Dyer et al. (2012a,2012b,2013a) How can I accomplish that the years are separated by comma and space: => … Dyer et al. (2012a, 2012b, 2013a) I already played with the setupcite command and peeked at the source code but could not find the right place or an idea how to change this. Seems like setupcite has not option and this is somewhere buried deep in the compact-layout code. Any ideas? Cheers, Steffen

Russian language support in ConTeXt

Hello: I would like to use ConTeXt for typesetting the documents in Russian. I used it about 10 years ago and it worked just fine. Much has been changed since then, however, and it doesn't work out-of-box while the only howto I've been able to find (http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Russian) seems to be outdated as none of the examples works with the latest ConTeXt. Could someone please explain me what I need to set up the program accordingly. I would appreciate your help a lot. Kind regards, Pavel.

I am converting some ITRANS documents with vedic accents to devanagari pdf files using Context. I tried both Chandas and Siddhanta fonts with it, I would prefer to use Siddhanta but in some cases the display is not coming correctly. eg. स॒र्वार्थ॑ in स॒र्व॒म॒ङ्ग॒लमा॒ङ्गल्ये॑ शि॒वे स॒र्वार्थ॑ साधिके। शर॑ण्ये त्र्यम्ब॑के दे॒वि॒ ना॒राय॑णि न॒मोऽस्तु॑ ते॥ does not display correctly when using Siddhanta font but it display correctly in Chandas. Right, the font (like many MS fonts) uses version 3 ‘post’ table which includes no glyph names at all, software that needs glyph names (e.g. LuaTeX, since you can’t embed a font is PDF without glyph names else printers would go nuts) have to generate it. Some software will use dump names; glyph1 etc. using glyph id, others will try to guess more sensible names from the OpenType layout tables. > Each of two programs uses a different method. interaction strangeness

Something strange happened here with the interaction in a pdf produced. There are chapters reacting when clicked in the table of contents but some are not. Moreover, this behaviour changes with the version of context used. I tried 3 versions of the beta: ConTeXt ver: 2013.10.15 13:52 MKIV beta ConTeXt ver: 2013.11.10 12:23 MKIV beta One specific chapter does not jump to the starting page when clicked. ConTeXt ver: 2013.12.04 11:34 MKIV beta Nothing changed in the source but now another chapter link also becomes inactive! There is no ready explanation I can think of. Because the document in question is about 500 pages I do not yet have a minimal example at hand. And as I suspect the problem can have its origin in the complexity and/or size of the document, I fear the construction of a minimal example will be difficult. Therefore I am first asking if this problem is known already. Afterwards I will try to find a small example, of course. Hans van der Meer
