Bugs in XML export (for ePub)

Hi again. I understand you don’t want to export some arbitrary (X)HTML. That’s fine, I can make my own XSLT. And I’m glad that \setupexport doesn’t kill hyphenation any more. But there are serious errors in export, that have nothing to do with „there’s no usable standard“. [1] root node First, the exported XML file lacks a root node! Just call it <export> or <context> or whatever you like, but it MUST be there, otherwise it’s no wellformed XML. If I enable xhtml mode like \setupbackend[export=export.xml,xhtml=yes] the exported file stops after a few lines. If I set xhtml=somefile.xhtml, I get the broken export.xml and the complete somefile.xhtml, so I guess xhtml=yes causes overwriting the complete file with the incomplete one. As far as I remember previous discussions, this incomplete content is caused by the project structure (using project, product, environment); from single file it seemed to work, at least at that time, I didn’t check. Since xhtml mode doesn’t do anything useful anyway, I can just drop the setting. [2] metadata The metadata from \setupexport is completely ignored. The metadata from \settaggedmetadata is exported just fine, but it ends up within the first block of the first page, if that’s not empty. e.g. my text starts with \startlines Title etc. \stoplines, then <metadata><metavariable> etc. is exported within <lines>. If I add something like \startparagraph \stopparagraph to contain the metadata, it disappears. Of course I don’t want to add something visible (then it works again). [3] cover picture The firstpage key of setupexport is supposed to define a cover picture for the ePub, but it doesn’t do anything, as far as I can tell. Or is something wrong in: \setupexport[firstpage={img/cover.jpg}] ? [4] delimited If \quotation{} contains more than one paragraph (in my case it’s a quote), the <delimited detail="quotation“> is ended after the first paragraph. \about disables \setupnote[footnote][split=strict]

Dear list, I have just accidentally noted that \about disables the option [split=strict] in \setupnote. Here is a sample: \mainlanguage[es] \setuppapersize[A6] \setupnote[footnote][split=strict] \starttext \section[espacios]{Espacios} \section[parrafos]{Párrafos} \dorecurse{5}{Esta es una frase.\par} En el preámbulo sólo existen órdenes. Antes de \tex{starttext}, no debe haber texto, únicamente órdenes de configuración. Cada orden puede formar un parrafo, esto es, puede contener saltos de línea, pero no una línea en blanco. Y no debemos mezclar órdenes distintas en la misma línea. En el preámbulo se aplica también lo dicho en las secciones %~ «Espacios» y «Párrafos». \about[espacios] y \about[parrafos]. Entre diferentes órdenes, puede haber tantos saltos de línea como queramos\footnote{En este caso, ni siquiera tiene que haber una línea en blanco. La única regla es la legibilidad de nuestro código. Es especialmente importante, porque las órdenes de configuración del preámbulo son más difíciles de leer que el texto mezclado con órdenes.}. struggling with section headers

Hi again, I got a few different problems related to my section headers. I use \startsection[title={Something}] … \stopsection, but not \startparagraph, in case that matters. (Latest MkIV beta on OSX.) I need grid typesetting and use the same line spacing for body text and section headers (body text is 9pt, section headers are 11pt, interlinespace is 12pt). But as soon as I enable grid typesetting, there’s at least one line of space after the header - doesn’t hurt, but my setup says: \setupheads[ align={right,nothyphenated}, tolerance=verytolerant, grid=line, number=no] \setuphead[section][ page=no, style={\SectionFont}, before={\blank\vfil}, after={\relax}, interlinespace=12pt] Headers should stick with their (following) paragraph, but they tend to stick with the previous line. I.e. there are several pages that end somewhere in the middle, but their last line is on the next page above the section title. I don’t want page=yes, but the section should start on a new page rather than with just the title at the foot. If a page starts with a header, there should be no additional space above it. \rm in math mode should give text roman

I don't think it's right that \rm in math mode means \mathrm. Or, at least, plain.tex assumes that \rm gives text roman, e.g. from plain.tex (line 1067), \def\arctan{\mathop{\rm arctan}\nolimits} Thus, the following example has the "arctan" text in Euler math. how to make a \lambdabar (like \hbar)

\hbar is used a lot in physics. Once in a while, one also uses \lambdabar to mean \lambda/2\pi. It's Unicode description is 'LATIN SMALL LETTER LAMBDA WITH STROKE' (U+019B). I've been using this hack \def\lambdabar{\lambda\kern-1ex\raise0.65ex\hbox{-}} But it's not beautiful. Is there a better way to get a lambdabar into (or from) the math fonts? I tried \def\lambdabar {\Umathchar "0"0"00019B } by analogy with the definition of \hbar in luatex-math.tex, but it produces a blank space. There must be no entry for it in the regular (or Palatino) math fonts. For reference, the following thread had a discussion about \hbar <http://www.ntg.nl/pipermail/ntg-context/2013/070810.html> and \hbar works well (using MkIV 2014.02.14). -Sanjoy

Well with \definefontfamily[mainface][serif][Minion Pro][opticalsize=yes] It does work. But I just wonder why some people could omit this option? Is there a bug? Will this be omitted in later distributions? Problem using the new buildin simplefont \definefontfamily with OTF fonts

I am using Ubuntu 13.10 with ConTeXt daily build and LuaTeX daily build. My ConTeXt version is 2014.02.14 17:07, LuaTeX version beta-0.78.3 (TeX Live 2014/dev/Debian) (rev 4850) . While there are some problems with using the newly added feature of build-in support of simplefonts. I was using something like \definefontfamily[mainface][serif][Kepler] \setupbodyfont[mainface] \starttext Hello World! \stoptext It would end up with using Latin Modern font. Broken bibliographies in 2014-03-07 beta

Bibliographies are no longer generated. MWE is the example code at http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Bibliography_mkiv, which no longer generates an output file and shows the following in the blg file: I found no \citation commands---while reading file cite.aux I found no \bibdata command---while reading file cite.aux I found no \bibstyle command---while reading file cite.aux You've used 0 entries,... new beta

Hi, I uploaded a new beta. Apart from the usual 'improvements' and a few 'fulfilled wishes' the main difference is in some optimized register generation code: in the crited project we're dealing with tens of thousands of different index entries and that gave problems with luajittex (first of all a memory issue due to limitations in luajit, after that a 20 fold slowdown thanks to poor hashing) but Luigi and I were able to sort that out. If you use luajittex and run into memory issues (indicated by the inability to load the tuc file) you can say \setupregister[index][referencemethod=forward] given that you never place an index before the entries are defined. If you use luajittex and it's way too slow, then wait till the updated binaries are released. (Or just use luatex). Columns and clubpenalty problem

Hi, with the recent Betas, and the Current, I have a problem with columns and clubpenalty. In the following minimal the long item (item 1) will introduce a column break (instead of a simple line break): \def \defaultclubpenalty{\plustenthousand} \starttext \startitemize [columns] \item This is just a long line and should stay in the left column. \dorecurse{10}{\item bla bla bla} \stopitemize \stoptext Older ConTeXt versions work as expected (no column break in item 1), for example Beta 2013.11.13 12:28 or Current 2013.05.28 00:36. What’s wrong with \nomarking{\crlf}?

Combination maxwidth

Hello, I tried to use a combination in a placefigure command with two figures side by side: \placefigure[2][ref]{figure caption} {\startcombination {subcaption 1} {\externalfigure[myfigure1]} {subcaption 2} {\externalfigure[myfigure2]} \stopcombination } But the result doesn't fit into the pagewidth. Is there maxwidth command like for combinations ? Or there is a way to get distance so I could set myfigure1 and myfigure2 maxwidth to 0.5*(\textwidth - distance) ? Thanks

Bug: Columnar itemized text

Hi, I believe I have isolated the problem: \starttext balance \startmixedcolumns[balance=yes,] \dorecurse{8}{\input{ward}} \stopmixedcolumns %\page strut \startmixedcolumns[grid=strut,] \dorecurse{4}{\input{knuth}} \stopmixedcolumns \stoptext When balanced mixedcolumns are followed by mixedcolumns using a strut grid, then the content of the second mixedcolumns will extend into the footer area on the next page. However, if the content of the strut grid mixedcolumns is long enough to incur a page break on that next page, then no content spills into the footer. How can I help fix this?

Trimming strings and Lua string.trim question

I am trying to strip all leading and trailing whitespace from a string. I have tried two methods, neither of which is satisfactory. The first method uses \ignorespaces and \removeunwantedspaces. This fails to strip leading and trailing newlines. The second method uses the Lua string.strip function. The wiki description: Yields string with leading and trailing whitespace (spaces, horizontal and vertical tabs, newlines) removed suggests that this should do what I want, but I find that it removes internal whitespace as well as the leading and trailing whitespace. Can somebody suggest a better way of doing this? The following code demonstrates the problem: % macros=mkvi \starttexdefinition StringStrip #STRING \startluacode context(string.strip([==[#STRING]==])) \stopluacode \stoptexdefinition \long\def\test{ This is a test. \quad And it has an unexpected result. Placing marks at edge.

You have seen them in books from O'Reilly and even in books like "TeX for the Impatient": markings on the outer edge of each odd page that bleed past the page edge indicating a particular chapter. In the last named they are a simple box with very fine horizontal black lines. In some O'Reilly books like "Web Design in a Nutshell" they are a black box with the chapter name (possibly abbreviated) rotated 90 degrees in small white text. No doubt I can do this in Context. The question is what is the simplest and most foolproof way home. Of course the page size will be made larger by 0.125 inch on all sides except the spine edge to provide a trim. The marker box I describe protrudes into the trim area. And its location and the text change for each chapter of course. It is very hard in this country to get a book review by the important pre-publication reviewers like Booklist and Library Journal. But that review is the key to among other things library sales and academic sales. Selectfont: extend and slant features

Dear list, the (fake) extend and slant features seem to be missing with Selectfont. Will they be made available sometimes in the future? Or am I simply doing something wrong? (critical edition) wrong page breaks with linenotes

Hi Thomas, Luigi and Hans, I have a sample (http://www.ousia.tk/hefestio-ctx.tex) that shows problematic page breaks with notes in paragraph form. This is especially relevant for linenotes in critical editions. The compiled version (http://www.ousia.tk/hefestio-ctx.pdf) shows results at twelve, thirteen and fourteen points. I know I’m using a font that is not part of the ConTeXt Suite, but it is the one that gives me the faulty results. Of course, it isn’t the only problematic one. In the source, \setupnote is set in both linenotes to [split=verystrict, scope=page] to avoid having linenotes that refer to a line from the previous page. If I’m not missing something or doing something wrong, I think that a way to solve this (sorry, I don’t know the internals, but the suggestion might be a valid one) is to set a kind of penalty that does the following: if the line in its final position doesn’t observe the space before of the first apparatus, it should be moved to the next page. Isn’t this proposal similar to the way widow and orphans are avoided by setting penalties? Many thanks for your help, Pablo -- http://www.ousia.tk

Margin notes

I am trying to compile a 2-year-old mkiv document with the latest beta and am getting an error on the line \inleft[style=bold,stack=continue] Two years ago, stacking of margin notes was still experimental, so I'm guessing something has changed since then. What is the correct way these days to typeset margin notes? Thank you, Severin

I am using using \starthanging...\stophanging to embed a small image in a paragraph in a footnote. Trying to use my local otf math font by editing typescript

Hi here. I was trying to use my own math font in Mark IV, inside distribution TeX Live 2013, using typescript, but failed. The way I am thinking, I might use an fallback way. For most of the math symbols, I would use the provided palatino stuff, but for MathRoman and MathItalic, I'd like to use the same font as of normal text, let's say Minion Pro. As I'm looking into a normal typescript file, I thought of a few options: First of all, just overwrite the Palatino typescript, like follows: \starttypescript \definefontsynonym [MathRoman] [name:minionproregular] \definefontsynonym [MathItalic][name:minionproit] \stoptypescript It gives out "Math error: parameter \Umathquad\displaystyle is not set ..." Another way I'm trying, is to use some fall back mode. \starttypescript [math] [palatino] \setups[font:fallback:math] \definefontsynonym [MathRoman] [name:minionproregular] \definefontsynonym [MathItalic][name:minionproit] \stoptypescript It also doesn't work. The result was same as the previous. And I also tried \starttypescript [math] [palatinofb] \usetypescript[math][palatino] \definefontsynonym [MathRoman] [name:minionproregular] \definefontsynonym [MathItalic][name:minionproit] \stoptypescript This also makes no difference. Inspired by http://tex.stackexchange.com/questions/150566/minionpro-including-math-in-c…, I also tried the \definefallbackfamily, it turn out to be an undefined control sequence. In the main typescript, I uses \definetypeface[MinionPro-Mixed][mm][math][palatino][default] So I cannot find out how to fulfill my need. I guess there might because of a missing map file, but for a roman font, do we need any? Euler with fallback

Hi all, This is to announce that the latest beta supports creating virtual math fonts with fallback. The main test case is to use Euler font with missing characters taken from Pagella but the mechanism is general and can be used to replace a specific set of math glyphs from a font. This feature is not extensively tested. As such it will be useful if everyone interested in math fallback mechanism could test this out and report any bugs or inconsistencies. To use this feature you have to use `pagellaovereuler` as your math font. For example, to use Euler with DejaVu fonts, use: \usetypescriptfile[euler] \starttypescript[mainface] \definetypeface[mainface][rm][serif][dejavu] [default] \definetypeface[mainface][ss][sans] [dejavu] [default] \definetypeface[mainface][tt][mono] [dejavu] [default] \definetypeface[mainface][mm][math] [pagellaovereuler][default] \stoptypescript \setupbodyfont[mainface] \appendtoks \rm \to \everymathematics \setupmathematics [lcgreek=normal, ucgreek=normal] There is a built-in typescript `euler-with-pagella` to use `pagellaovereuler` as the math font and `pagella` as the text font. Under the current beta it fails. When warnings are skipped in the current beta, the generated PDF shows that the trailing BROKEN BAR appears to be treated as a part of the parameter name: \Named[value]. With numbered parameters (\type{\def\Numbered[#1]{¦#1¦}}), all is well in both versions: \Numbered[value]. This issue makes it difficult to convert macros that use delimiters (for example, \type{\def\ABC#1×#2¦{#1\ #2}}) to Mark VI syntax, and difficult to create such macros under Mark VI. \subject{What is allowed \ä<^>?z} What characters are acceptable in Mark VI parameter names? What characters are acceptable in Mark IV and Mark VI macro names? The wiki states: \quotation{Mark VI is identical to Mark IV in every respect, except that when you define a new macro you can give parameters names instead of numbers.} Other than that, there is no guidance. Experimentation shows that many more characters are allowed in \CONTEXT{} identifiers than are generally allowed with other \TeX{} engines. The definition providing the last part of the subject of this section, \type{\def\ä<^>?z{Ä<^>?}}, presents no problems. (That definition fails in Lua\TeX, \pdfTeX, and \XeTeX. Strange behaviour with columnar itemized text

Hi, I encountered two issues where itemized text within columns behaves unexpectedly. There appear to be two issues, possibly related. I will provide the shorter example first, which produces overlapping text on the second page (http://i.imgur.com/zMW6yk4.png) Changing \blank[.2em] to \blank[small] resolves the first issue. Removing inbetween={\blank[small]}, resolves the second issue. Given that changing the \blank command affects the results, I think they might be related somehow. I'm not concerned about the first issue -- changing ".25em" to "small" is fine. The second issue, however, leaves me perplexed for a solution to avoid the issue while maintaining the desired vertical whitespace (see (http://i.imgur.com/n46zEhf.png) between items. Any suggestions? Commutative diagrams in tikz-cd: for wiki

Dear gang, With a couple of modifications I got tikz-cd (a package to make commutative diagrams for categories and toposes etc. by Florêncio Neves) working in mkiv: http://texdoc.net/texmf-dist/doc/latex/tikz-cd/tikz-cd-doc.pdf It depends on the tikz module, already supported in mkiv. It's not needed anyway since that's pdftex. 2 In tikzlibrarycommute.code.tex, line 395 I had to add the option ampersand replacement=\& to avoid a TeX error. So you'll have to use '\&' instead of '&' for matrix arrays. 3 Some LaTeX-specific stuff is commented, and support is added for \starttikzcd \stoptikzcd so we get a ConTeXt environment. I'm hoping someone can volunteer to place this on the wiki, perhaps even set it up on the modules page, with an indication of its proper place in the texmf-modules tree etc. Any other improvements will also be appreciated. using environments with project structure (in MkIV)

I'm having trouble using project structure and font loading together in MkIV. Here's how the problem arises. As Aditya and Wolfgang have pointed out, the recommended way to set up fonts in MkIV is before \starttext or \startcomponent. For a component, the setups usually go in an environment file that is referenced by the project file, and the project file is mentioned with a \project, e.g. \startcomponent test \project testproject \input knuth \stopcomponent However, the \project line has to come *after* \startcomponent. If it comes before \startcomponent, then context doesn't process the component file at all, and no PDF file is generated. An example: \project testproject \startcomponent test \input knuth \stopcomponent (with testproject.tex containing \startproject blah \stopproject) A workaround is to replace the \project line with \environment env where env is what testproject would have included anyway. e.g. \environment env \startcomponent test \input knuth \stopcomponent Here, env.tex has all the setups including the font setups (and one would do the same in the product file, i.e. in the file that includes the components, by putting "\environment env" before the \startproduct). The first problem is that it seems some of the functionality of products, projects, and components is lost. But maybe that's a matter of taste. Another problem is that env.tex doesn't know that one is compiling a product or component---thus, the system modes *product and *component are not defined while reading env.tex. Is there another way of doing project structure that I am missing? My update to the wiki page on project structure (on putting \project before \startcomponent) seems to be wrong, and I'll fix it once I understand what to do! -Sanjoy

Footnote mark gap

Dear All, when footnotes are placed after certain accented characters, the corresponding footnote marks are rendered too close to them: \starttext í\footnote{í} T\footnote{T} ľ\footnote{ľ} ě\footnote{ě} ď\footnote{ď} \stoptext Is there any option for making this distance a bit larger? On the other hand this gap may produce too much white space when placed after characters like period or comma... Ideally it could be positioned 'optically' ;-) Regards, Jan

different page sizes on one sheet

hi, i'm new to the list and also pretty new to ConTeXt (but I used LaTeX for a lot of years), but need a quite complicated page setup right in the beginning: i have a combination of two A5 pages and four A6 pages and i'd like to put them on one double sided A4 paper sheet (please use monotyped font to see the scheme correctly) +----------+----------+ | | | | A6 | | | | | +----------+ A5 + | | | | A6 | | | | | +----------+----------+ the same for the back page. in the end cutting the A4 sheet should let the A5 pages and A6 pages undestroyed :-) i have tried combining \setuppaper[nx=2, ny=2, dx=0mm, dy=0mm] \setuparranging[XY] but didn't get a satisfying result because of different page sizes involved ... any ideas? cheers artur ps. here my starting point: \setuppaper[nx=2, ny=2, dx=0mm, dy=0mm] \setuparranging[XY] \showframe[cut=true] \setuppapersize[A5][A4,landscape] \starttext Page 1. Hi guys, I haven't played with ConTeXt for three month because of my examinations. Today, I delete the old version and reinstall a new one from the ConTeXt garden, but it seems that the new one can't run successfully. It says that unknown script 'context.lua' or 'mtx-context.lua. Hi, The predefined alternative list setups (e.g., a, b, c...) provide various ways to format the ToC with the page number to the right of the list entry title. An alternative with the page number to the left of the list entry title would be useful. Hi, 1. Edit .../tex/texmf/web2c/texmfcnf.lua 2. Set TEXMFCACHE = "/var/cache/context/texmf-cache" 3. Run first-setup.sh to update ConTeXt. Expected Results TEXMFCACHE remains "/var/cache/context/texmf-cache" Actual Results TEXMFCACHE reverts to "$SELFAUTOPARENT/texmf-cache" If the values have been changed, then: (a) updates should not overwrite the new values; (b) an option to prevent overwriting new values on upgrade should be available; (c) user should be prompted to overwrite changed configuration values; (d) user should be prompted to accept overwriting each new value; or (e) a backup of the configuration file should be made, followed by a message that the changes have been overwritten and previous values archived.

Additional typeface styles/alternatives with Selectfont

Dear List, I think Selectfont is great -- thank you, Wolfgang, for your work. However, I miss the features to define and use additional typeface styles and alternatives. Not everything fits in the predefined scheme of rm, ss, tt, hw, cg and mm, so it would be nice to have the possibility to define additional typeface styles. (I'm thinking for example about blackletter here.) It would also be nice if one could access arbitrary typeface alternatives, however the typeface creator has named them (e.g. something like semicondensed-ultrabold). At the moment, I think, it is only possible to map a few alternatives to the predefined switches. Kind regards, Joshua

Appendix Page Numbering

I use \definestructureconversionset [frontpart:pagenumber][][romannumerals] to make sure the numbering of my pages in frontmatter use Roman numerals. Not only are the pages numbered with Roman numerals, but the PDF index links and PDF page numbers use this as well. I would like to do something similar for the backmatter, but I would like both the page numbers and the PDF index links and PDF page numbers look like A1, A2, ... (for appendix). Accessing current XML node in Lua function

Hi, I'd like to write a Lua function that processes the href attribute from a HTML file and outputs different content depending on the URL. However, I don't know how to convert the XML attribute and the contents of the link tag to a string value for the Lua function. I've tried the following, which does not work but makes my intention clearer: \startxmlsetups xml:a \directlua{getlinkcode("\\xmlatt{#1}{href}", "\\xmlflush{#1}")} \stopxmlsetups It's probably calls to lxml.att and lxml.flush instead of the strings, but how do I convert the "#1" ? When any hyperlink for footnote or index is clicked, the zoom is set to FitPage: \setupinteraction[state=start,focus=standard] \starttext \startfrontmatter \completecontent \stopfrontmatter \startbodymatter \section{Primary}\index{primary} Dummy text\footnote{footnote}. \stopbodymatter \startbackmatter \completeindex \stopbackmatter \stoptext Just generate the output, zoom the second or third page in and click any hyperlink on that scaled page. What is the MkIV/LuaTeX way to set the CropBox? In MkII/PDFTeX, I used \pdfpagesattr = {/CropBox [54 72 558 720]} With MkIV, I've tried \pdfcompresslevel 0 \pdfbackendsetpagesattribute{CropBox}{[54 72 558 720]} \starttext \input knuth \stoptext but that set the CropBox as a string, and didn't override the A4 setting: <</Type/Pages /CropBox ([54 72 558 720])/Count 1/Kids[16 0 R]>> I also tried \pdfcompresslevel 0 \startluacode local box = lpdf.array{54, 72, 558, 720} lpdf.addtopagesattributes("CropBox",box) \stopluacode \starttext \input knuth \stoptext and that produced an improved line in the Pages object: <</Type/Pages /CropBox [ 54 72 558 720 ]/Count 1/Kids[16 0 R]>> but the actual cropbox for the page is unchanged (A4), probably because the page object itself (object #16) overrides the CropBox with this: /CropBox [ 0.0000 0.0000 595.2756 841.8898 ] (This is all with the 2014.02.14 beta.) View results: http://i.imgur.com/zttXyKA.png The columnar content has shifted from the left column to the right column. This can be addressed: 1. Uncomment: %before={\vskip-.5em}, 2. Run: context.tex 3. View results: http://i.imgur.com/OsUgiAy.png Works for two lines, but when additional content is added: 1. Uncomment: %\ingredient{1}{pkg}{applewood-smoked bacon}... 2. Run: context.tex 3. View results: http://i.imgur.com/4fjbWHv.png Several lines have disappeared completely, regardless of font. The lines can be made visible again, but then the situation reverts to shifting the content from the left column to the right column when there are only a couple of items in the list. I've tried grid=strut; grid=,; grid=verytolerant; and grid=stretch. Using a two-column setup, is there a way to reduce the amount of space? Dear list, I have the following sample: \starttext \chapter{Chapter} .\doifemptyelse{\getmarking[section][current]} {\getmarking[chapter][current]} {\getmarking[section][current]}. \section{Section} .\doifemptyelse{\getmarking[section][current]} {\getmarking[chapter][current]} {\getmarking[section][current]}. \stoptext I must be missing something extremely basic, because I think that the first condiitonal occurs when \getmarking[section][current] is empty (dots have nothing in between). Obscure math/color "bug" (namespace clash)

Hello, I came across the following obscure math/color namespace clash: %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% \definecolor [tan] [h=d2b48c] % Taken from \setupcolor [x11] \starttext $\tan θ$ \stoptext %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% One solution would be to give precedence in math mode to the standard mathematical tokens (here \tan). Another solution would be simply to avoid the use of "tan" (as a color). In colo-imp-x11.mkiv it could be renamed "tan0" (there is already tan1, tan2, tan3). This is somewhat unfortunate as "tan" is a standard X11 color name. On the other hand, one would like to be able to use colors in math mode as well... Hard to solve that one fast .. basically all that gets bound to a next characters makes that next character not protrude. This is not something the engine can solve as it doesn't know what it deals with (so the current behaviour is as it should be). Maybe in a future version of context I can deal with it (as I know how to do it, but that doesn't help much now). Dear All, when a punctuated phrase appears at the beginning of the line, it is not protruded correctly when preceded by an index term. ... \index{foo}>Bar< ... A minimal example is available at http://drifted.in/other/sample.tex I cannot place the space character between these two parts (which helps) as I sometimes need to join this and the previous phrase with the non-breaking space. Dear All, when hanging in footnotes is enabled and the starting character is a punctuation, it is not protruded. However, the same character in the footnote body works fine. When both cases are close each other, it looks weird, see the screenshot: http://drifted.in/other/footnote_alignment.png Would it be possible make this behaviour uniform - either do not protrude it on the starting (left) edge or protrude it everywhere? different page sizes on one sheet

A general question. I use setupenumerations to define theorem-, lemma-, and definition-environments for my document. Hi, When using "\startmixedcolumns[balance=yes,grid=strut]", how would you put a 0.5em vertical space between a subtitle and a list of items? Ah! I was going to suggest that, but thought you wanted a solution that didn't involve manual adjustments... I also thought I tried adding "\indentation" to the "PlaceFigure" macro, but it didn't work (probably because of it being embedded inside another set of braces).

\asciimode not working when in \footnote

I installed Ubuntu on the chromebook using crouton (http://lifehacker.com/how-to-install-linux-on-a-chromebook-and-unlock-its-f…) and then apt-get context which gave a texlive version for armhf; also got vim and evince. From terminal under Ubuntu, which runs on top of ChromeOS, context foo.tex compiled a Hello World and a \startMPpage figure. That much worked. This made me think the link for armhf-linux above might work without Ubuntu, but I am not skilled enough to use the trunk/Master--I got a text sym-link and a 7.3mb luatex file that I can not yet make executable (command not found.) The texlive/acquire-netinstall results in 'Permission denied' even with sudo on the chromebook. I have not yet tried Martin's approach with the .deb files but wanted to report back and thank you both for your suggestions. John

Dear All, I'd like to apply 'verystrict' tolerance as a default value, which would be overridden by less strict values in several specific paragraphs with tricky word combinations causing problems when hyphenating. But when \setuptolerance command is used multiple times, the last one seems to be active only from that place on. When settings is wrapped by \start \stop commands, it seems to be ignored: \start \setuptolerance[tolerant] %text \stop Is there any way how to achieve this or do I have to use the lowest required value for the whole document? The work-around forces the new line using \\, then immediately skips back a line.

Hi all, I would like to have mp choose a (transparent) color randomly from a predefined list. superscripted \circ slightly too low?

The superscripted degree symbol in $10^\circ$ comes out slightly low. e.g. \starttext \placeformula\startformula 10^\circ \quad 10\mathstrut^\circ \stopformula \placeformula\startformula x^7\quad x\mathstrut^7 \stopformula \stoptext I'm not quite sure what's right, but my eye says that the $10\mathstrut^\circ$ looks better. (And now I worry that all my superscripts are too low, but that could be my just being a worry wart.) Is the slightly lower superscript positioning a conscious choice with MkIV math? Or maybe there's a magic parameter to adjust it? I made some tests with other tex engines. In tex, pdftex, and latex, it comes out higher (as if \mathstrut were there). In pdflatex, it comes out slightly low. View page 3 of the PDF ( http://i.imgur.com/VLwssnl.png ) 5. Edit garlic.tex. 6. Remove \completecontent 7. Run: context garlic.tex 8. View page 3 of the PDF ( http://i.imgur.com/HVAoavQ.png ) The Table of Contents affects the column height in the body. The available height for the text body should be independent of \completecontent. The total height should be as shown in the second example, with or without the ToC. How can this be resolved? Second question: How would you remove the white space above each subsection title so that the title is aligned to the top of its column? Third question: How would you prevent widowing of subsection titles from their content? I tried "ntop=2" and "\setuptolerance[tolerant]", but neither affected the result. Thank you!

I can run Debian and other *nix flavors on the chromebook by various methods and then have ConTeXt, but I would rather not 'dual boot.' What I am after is to have ConTeXt run 'natively,' if that is the right word/concept, on a chromebook core platform. From the chromebook shell I know I can run vim to edit files but I would like to compile them. (Viewing will be the next chapter!)

Hi all, After a series of exchanges on the list, on the topic of how mathematics typesetting is and should be in ConTeXt, I am writing you this message to ask all those who use ConTeXt to typeset mathematics and who encounter various types of difficulties, or shortcomings, to send me their remarks, either on list or off list. I will check the problems with Aditya Mahajan and Mikael Sundqvist, and then submit feature requests or bug reports to Hans and Aditya who will try to fix the issues (I have asked these people about this, and they all agree…). In order to help me manage efficiently the task, please add the following tag [Math on ConTeXt] to the Subject field of your message. The issues which may be addressed are of the following categories: 1. Differences in the output of ConTeXt mkiv vs mkii (due to differences in engine) 2. Differences in the output of ConTeXt mkiv vs LuaLaTeX + Opentype math fonts (due to differences in macro package) 3. Differences in the output of ConTeXt mkiv vs PDFLaTeX + AMSMath (due to differences in expectation) 4. Bug reports (regarding commands of plain TeX missing in ConTeXt, the position of math accents, etc…) Indeed some of the issues may have their origin in the fonts (therefore not easy to fix thouroughly), but others may be fixed once the expectations are clearly expressed.
