Let chapter start on odd page and make the even page before show an image

Dear all, with your help I can colorize the empty even page right before a chapter starts on the odd page. The mwe below shows it. Now I would like to redefine the contents of the left page on the fly in the text so that I could place images on this page. I thought that I could get a simple solution by inserting a TEXpage as even page, but this does not work for several reasons. First a TEXpage is not counted correctly like a normal page. And secondly I found now way to put it on the even page. referencing both real and user pagenumbers

I have a collection of papers printed previously that are to go into a single volume so that, while the papers retain their original pagination and internal cross-referencing, they are also paginated continuously. I have managed to do this using userpagenumbers for the individual papers and realpagenumbers for the volume as a whole. Re cross-referencing: \at and \in etc. return userpagenumbers (which I need). But I also need them (or something like them) to return realpagenumbers as well. Is there a way to do this? Alan

mtxrun exit code

I am producing a series of files in a shell script with mtxrun --autogenerate --script context input Doing exit mtxrun... shows there is no exit number to test in the shell, or to ste a shell variable to that value. I can set a global macro \ExitStatus to an exit value depending on success or failure, pass that on to mtxrun as exit statusd and test that in the script. For example: \starttext \xmlprocessbuffer{notes}{notes}{} \doif{\ExitStatus}{notok}{"let mtxrun return value 1 as error in UNIX"} \stoptext After that it would be possible in the shell script to delete the pdf produced, what is my intention in this case. 'debug' version of METAPOST draw?

I would like to be able (during development) to draw paths where the points of the path (and maybe thing slike directions) are visualised. E.g. a path where each pair in teh path is also drawn as a dot and maybe teh directions drawn as small arrows. Does someone have such a beast lying around? G

Hi Hans, the following sample: \starttext \startTEXpage[offset=1em] \doifinsetelse{i7}{i4, i5, i7} {yes}{no} \stopTEXpage \stoptext outputs "yes" with latest from 2020.05.18 16:50, but "no" with latest from 2020.05.25 23:39. \Umathcodenum and get...dir in lmtx

Hi, I had two issues with luametatex: The manual documents getters and setters for the directions: The direction states can be queried and set with: tex.gettextdir() tex.getpardir() tex.setmathdir(<number>) tex.getlinedir() tex.settextdir(<number>) tex.setpardir(<number>) tex.getmathdir() tex.setlinedir(<number>) While there is no problem with the set...dir commands, the get...dir commands don't actually exists. (They can be implemented using tex.get, but it would be nice if either they were added to luametatex or if they were removed from te documentation to avoid confusion.) Additionally the scanning variant of \Umathcodenum seems broken: Take the example document \starttext \directlua{ print('gettextdir:', tex.gettextdir) } \the\Umathcodenum`a \stoptext It works in ConTeXt mkiv, but in lmtx it shown a (non-informative) error: gettextdir: nil tex error > tex error on line 5 in file ./contfail.tex: ! This can't happen (scan char) l.5 \the\Umathcodenum`a 1 \starttext 2 \directlua{ 3 print('gettextdir:', tex.gettextdir) 4 } 5 >> \the\Umathcodenum`a 6 \stoptext 7 I'm broken. issue with environment and Lua

Dear list, I have added an \xmlflushcontext to a non-minimal environment file and it crashes again and again. I get the following errors: lua error > lua error on line 8 in file cont-yes.mkiv: function call [560]: ...ext/tex/texmf-context/tex/context/base/mkiv/lxml-tex.lua:918: bad argument #2 to 'lpegmatch' (string expected, got table) <empty file> mtx-context | fatal error: return code: 256 Is there any way to be able to know which XML code outputs a table instead of the string ConTeXt expects and complaints about? I already spent three hours and I got nothing. In cases like that, it would be useful that ConTeXt could translate XML + environments to ConTeXt sources. Change hyphenation mark

Proper presentations with stepping

The presentation examples with stepping always seem to lack page and section numbers because \incrementcounter gets fired on every stepping iteration. For that I adjusted a few lines in spresent-steps.mkiv. You can see an (scientifically-styled) example presentation here: https://github.com/WelterDevelopment/present-steps-context Also I would like to propagate the idea of removing the sectioning heads from the page content and move them to the page header. This does simplify a lot of issues in (non-javascript) stepped presentations: \setuphead[section,subsection][page=yes, placehead=empty] \setupheadertexts[{\getmarking[sectionnumber] \getmarking[section] -- \getmarking[subsectionnumber] \getmarking[subsection]}][] Maybe something like this can be added as a new example presentation in texmf-context\doc\context\presentations\examples because the current present-steps-001 is a little too minimal. I cannot get a PDF/A document produced with the latest MkIV beta 2020.05.18 16:46 (LMTX works without issue). Using the example from the wiki (https://wiki.contextgarden.net/PDF/A) I get the error stating: <inserted text> ... \p_file {\backendparameter {xmpfile}}\ifempty \p_file \else \clf_setxmpf... \setup_backend ...end [#1]\the \everysetupbackend l.11 ...ISO coated v2 300\letterpercent\space (ECI)] mtx-context | fatal error: return code: 1 Removing either of the \setupbackend instructions still results in the same error. Same issue for PDF/X. Is it a bug, or is it me? -- Rik

About Latex compatibility module

I was reading some old posts on TeX.SX about LaTeX support on ConTeXt and I found the following: https://web.archive.org/web/20110822085249/https://modules.contextgarden.ne… However, not only the module seems to be deprecated, but there's no more info about the module now (links are broken and the like). Btw the test file (latextest.tex) included fails to compile: > tex error on line 165 in file t-ltmsen.tex: ! Anyone managed a tabulated table of contents

I can't be the first to have wanted to try something like this. Is it possible to use tabulate (or any of the table types) to customise the layout of the table of contents? I'd like 4 columns - title, subject, author and page - where subject and author will (eventually) be additional parameters supplied to \startchapter. Bonus points if it works in interactive mode as well. Minimum non-working example below. Hi all, In a graph which I am trying to draw with LuaMetafun, I have a variable the values of which I want to show on the graph rotated 90 degrees (or whatever other value). Is it possible to do that? An example is: numeric a, u ; u := 10mm ; a := 4.5 ; label.bot(a, (10,-0.1) scaled u) % I would like to have printed 4.5 rotated 90 degrees for instance. Wiki - Proposal to update the Welcome page

Hi all, thanks for your encouraging feedbacks. 1/ Concerning the Manuals Page - As proposed, "obsolete banners" are added to thumbnails of the oldest manuals. - About providing zips of manuals per topics: maybe we could just add a index.html in the distribution structure, to provide the user with a browsing system similar to the wiki's one. - If the admistrators wish, I can now replace the current page. 2/ After the Manuals, please find a proposal for the Welcome Page, which is probably trickier - https://wiki.contextgarden.net/Main_Page_TempProposal - https://wiki.contextgarden.net/Main_Page (the current) - 4 objectives : 1/ do something more visual, reduce the amount of text, 2/ provide a fairly comprehensive overview with less than 15 topics, 3/ but hold in one (big) screen, 4/ avoid redundancies on the Welcome Page, 5/ match both the Wiki's structure & the Manuals' structure. Again, depending on your feedbacks, I would be happy to improve it. It's built from scripts ==> not too hard now to reorder, to adapt. Best

\doublehyphendemerits in project environment

Change of Optima to Optima Nova: fallback for cyrillc stops working

I’ve decided to buy the Optima Nova font. How to define a font with an effect as a font with \definefont

Actually, my setup is Optima with Helvetica used for Cyrillic: \definefallbackfamily [archimate] [ss] [Helvetica] [preset=range:cyrillic, tf=style:light, it=style:lightoblique, bf=style:regular, bi=style:oblique, force=yes, rscale=1.0] \definefontfamily [archimate] [ss] [Optima] \setupbodyfont[archimate] And I would like the effect to work on just the Optima font (which is a bit light for this use) I’ve been trying to work out using \definefont with the effect but have so far failed. output file name query

In my project, I process a single product file by enabling various modes. What I would like to do is to vary the name of the output PDF file in each instance. So, in processing a file, how does one go directly from prd_filename.tex to myfilename.pdf rather than to prd_filename.pdf—assuming that it is possible? Any tips or pointers to what I should be reading will be greatly appreciated. Alan

I've read about some commands which allow hyphenation according to an specific language in ConTeXt, e.g. \french{word} for French hyphenation in a text the main language of which is Spanish, English, etc. Unlike \language[code], I couldn't find any extensive list of those commands, so where should I find them? Getting width of text to be typeset

Hello, is it possible to get somehow the width of the "material" (box?) of the current line which is "ready" to be typeset? See the case: ---- \starttext some text pqrs % Here I need to get width (or content) of the text from the begin of the current line, % i.e. width of the text "pqrs". % (Depending of the width I will decide what to do later.) \stoptext ---- I am too laical to know how to "inject" TeX workflow or whether to access LuaTeX internals (nodes?) to get the desired information. - Is it possible somehow? But - I want the text "abcd" to be placed to the bottom of the same page as columns are (thus I attempted to put \vfill into the code, but it doesn't work), so to get one page document looking like: +------ page width -----+ Column text | (unused) column text | column text | column text | column text | column text | (some vertical space) abcd +----- end of page -----+ - How to achieve this? I did. It turns out that installing graphicsmagick does the trick (pun intended) for Noto Color Emoji. However, the issue persists for SVG fonts and the same message appears, despite of having cleaned the cache (I've used mtxrun --script cache --erase). context --purgeall filename does not delete all temporary files

Hi, `context --purgeall filename` behaves differently from `context --purgeall`. `context --purgeall` deletes all files with the name `*-temp-*`. I would have thought that `context --purgeall filename` will delete all files with the name `\jobname-temp-*` but it does not. Is there a way to delete the `\jobname-temp-*` files without requiring an extra `context --purgeall` run? This is needed for deleting extra files by `t-filter` module or deleting extra files generated by automatic EPS to PDF conversion (with figures.cachepaths.prefix="\jobname-temp"), etc. Thanks, Aditya

Emoji color fonts not working on LMTX/Context MKIV

I've tried the following from the manuals and adapted some code to see if it works: 1. \definefontfeature[svg][svg=yes] \definefontsynonym[Emoji][file:emojionecolor-svginot.ttf*default,svg] \definesymbol[bug][\getglyphdirect{Emoji}{\char"1F41B}] \starttext \symbol[bug] \stoptext The emoji has no color when compiled with LuaTeX. Please, you will find a proposal to update the Manuals page on the wiki: https://wiki.contextgarden.net/ManualsGallery 2 objectives: 1/ to make something more visual, to help the user identify the different documents, their organization, their date of release. 2/ to gather all the updated documents in one place Sources were : - http://www.pragma-ade.com/overview.htm - https://wiki.contextgarden.net/Manuals, and wiki snippets here and there. - https://github.com/hmenke/context-examples/blob/master/GUIDE.md Depending on your comments, and if there is an interest, I would be happy to improve it (correct errors, change document segmentation, better colors choice, additional data such as authors, number of pages). Hi, using \read on any existing file seems to trigger a segfault on lmtx. For example, take the document \starttext \newread\myread \openinputfile\myread{test} \read\myread to \abc \closeinputfile\myread \stoptext where test.tex is any file (It doesn't matter if the file is empty or not). $ inkscape --version Inkscape 1.0 (4035a4fb49, 2020-05-01) Pango version: 1.44.7 With the new release of Inkscape, --export-pdf no longer exists. The new options appear to be: --export=type=pdf --export=pdf-version=1.5 (or 1.4) --export-filename=filename.pdf Aditya has shown a work-around on TeX.SE. I've changed the code a little: \startluacode figures.programs.inkscape={ command="inkscape", pdfargument=[[ "%oldname%" --export-dpi=600 --export=type=pdf --export-filename="%newname%" ]], pngargument=[[ "%oldname%" --export-dpi=600 --export=type=png --export-filename="%newname%" ]], } \stopluacode Unfortunately, this does override outdated command line argument. ConTeXt appears to pass in the old argument: context --purgeall --trackers=graphics.conversion filename.tex Shows: Unknown option --export-pdf=images/m_k_i_v_genealogy.svg.pdf How would you replace the export-pdf option for the new version of Inkscape? (I'll send a bug to the Inkscape issue tracker; it strikes me that --export-pdf could have remained an alias.) Thank you!

Problem updating to new version for Win64

Hello, I tried updating my version of LMTX. A file which compiled under the old version (from earlier this year) now errors out. I moved my directory, downloaded a fresh copy of the install scripts and made a fresh installation. What am I missing? Looking for a way to use lua to output console/debug messages from MetaPost instead of 'show'

I often need some debugging info to find out what is going on in my METAPOST code (as I often do not have exact knowledge of what some things do). MetaPost’s ‘show’ command has limited formatting functionality (e.g. I would like to add a number as a string to a show message instead of putting it out as number and let ‘show' make a lot of lines out of it). I would like to instead use a lua function and I think I recall having seen somewhere the use of a call like lua( ….) or lua.foo.bar() in a MetaPost/MetaFun/LMTX example but I cannot find it anymore. Is it possible to do a lua() call from within MetaPost within LMTX and if so, what is the way to do it? Custom color schemes in t-vim

Quick question: Is \startcolorscheme... \stopcolorscheme (still) supported by t-vim? In a template I wrote long time ago to typeset code, I have: \usemodule[vim] \unprotect \startcolorscheme[oceansunset] \definesyntaxgroup[Comment][\c!color={colortwo},\c!style=italic] % etc. \stopcolorscheme \protect which I use as described in the wiki: \definevimtyping [...] [... alternative=oceansunset, ...] But that does not seem to have any effect (if I change the colors, the syntax highlighting does not change). I can use pscolor and blackandwhite, though. I see that \startcolorscheme is not documented, so maybe there is another mechanism? Nicola

What does the exporter try to tell me.

Hi I'm trying to improove the T-vim module such that it is also working properly in xml export setup. In the current ConTeXt standalone the exporter tries to tell me something when reporting "possible paragraph mixup" at any character followoing the first paragraph. And no output from the code block between start<>stop. I got that far that it has to do something with the redefinitoin of end of line chars or alike in the code behind and between the package specific start<> and stop<> commands. But i do not catch what the exporter trying to yell at me. So what additoinal trackers exempt the ones registered by the exporter do i have to activate to see what the exporter has to process on? What documentation should i read before continueing? What hast to be done inside the start stop, `\obeyline` etc macros to ensure the exporter is provided with a proper document sturcuture/tree which can be properly and flawlessly processed. All tex commands which should be reflected in the xml output by tags include inside their code `\starttagged` and `\stoptagged` commands but my impression is that something important the exporter needs to have any chance to gnereate porper clean output is missing and I'm missign any clue what and where to startoff. What is required to make \setuplayout work?

I’ve been trying to define a layout that just has a 5mm no-printing edge around the paper and has all the rest for \textwidth and \textheight. No header, footer, pagenumber, etc. Just as much space as I can get out of a standard A4. When I customise the table of contents layout I lose the automatic hyperlinks. Is there a simple configuration option that I have missed or do I need to create my own links somehow? Arithmetic Overflow error in MetaFun

Colleagues I'm having problems with an Arithmetic Overflow error when calculating the x and y values for functions of the form: y = ax^4 + bx^3 + cx^2 + dx + e to which I then add a bit of randomness and other embellishments. I have had a look in the Metafun and Metafont manuals but nothing jumps out at me. In the minimum working example below, this Arithmetic Overflow occurs when xord =13.5 but I can get the calculation to work if I separate out the equation and then add together, since it seems to be failing on the pow(xord,4) instruction. Is there a switch in MetaFont that should be set or a better way of getting round this Arithmetic Overflow error? Blank page added after pagecolumns

I am typesetting a document using pagecolumns to ensure that my footnotes are set ragged-bottom in columns. I have observed some unexpected behavior whenever the last column on a page is left incomplete: a blank page is added at the end of the document. A minimal working example follows: ``` \starttext \startpagecolumns[n=2] \dorecurse{3}{\par\input zapf} \stoppagecolumns \stoptext ``` I typeset this using ConTeXt version 2020.03.10, as released with TeXLive 2020. Notably, if \dorecurse{3} is changed to \dorecurse{2} or \dorecurse{6} (so that the text ends in the first column of a page), then there is no problem. I have tried to fix this by specifying page=no in the \startpagecolumns arguments, but it did not change anything. Is there something else I am missing? Thank you, Joey

Dear list, the “LuaMeTaTeX Reference Manual” describes that the command line argument "--nodates" removes time dependent information in the output file. I’m afraid it doesn’t work. "\enabledirectives[backend.date=no]" doesn’t work either. This is really useful to be able to generate the exact PDF output (from a hashing point of view). Am I missing something or have I hit a bug? page number with brief centered line above

Hi list, I am trying to achieve a layout where there is a brief line above the bottom-centered page number (of a double-sided document). I am able to achieve the centered bottom-located page number easily and obviously enough with: \setuppagenumbering [alternative=doublesided,location={footer,middle}] \setupfooter [style=bold] And I was able to achieve a result with a short line above where the page number should be - but by adopting the solution below I have now lost the page number. \setuppagenumbering [alternative=doublesided,location={footer,middle}] \setupfootertexts[{\framed[frame=off,topframe=on,width=.5\textwidth]}] So then I thought that having left out any reference to page numbers I had better put it in, so I added [pagenumber] to the above, but I ended up with two page numbers, one centered, the other to the inner or outer margins (depending on recto/verso), and the line was likewise to the right or left of the centred number. So clearly not what I want. Maybe the solution lies with some combination of the above I haven't thought of, or maybe there is another solution altogether. Any thoughts? Julian

I am loading an xml.file. I sometimes make mistakes editing that file and then xml.load creates a string that contains <error>invalid xml file - parsed text</error> At that point I check my file and sometimes (like now) I cannot find the error. Am wondering if anybody has a complete example (explained below) of a book cover: front, spine and back. It doesn't matter how simple or complicated the example. Am one of those people who, once he sees an example, can generally work out the necessary adaptations. By a complete example I mean the kind of thing found here Creating a style file in ConTeXt | Random Determinism <https://randomdeterminism.wordpress.com/2009/10/21/creating-a-style-file-in…> where the writer explains things bit by bit but importantly, offers a summary of the code at the end. I probably don't need the lengthy explanation but the summary of code is most helpful - except that it is not about a book cover:-) As a relative newcomer to ConTeXt, I have found complete examples of something I want/need to do very useful. Of course, many such are on the wiki, but from time to time I need something else, and right at the moment I need a bit of guidance for a book cover, and an example might help. Julian

Hi, The tex engine has at most 65K dimen and count registers and these can be local and global (although mixing these two models for the same variable can be inefficient). Anyway, in the current upload there is a mechanism for using way more variables, global ones, that are managed by lua: \luadimen test 100pt \scratchdimen = .25 \luadimen test \the\scratchdimen \the\luadimen test So, they act as normal dimensions and counters wrt assignment and serialization and such. There are also floats and booleans (in addition to integers and cardinals). Then, as another experiment, there are one/two dimensional arrays of variables. Think of: \newarray name whatever type integer nx 100 ny 500 \arrayvalue whatever 20 30 1024 \the\arrayvalue whatever 10 30 \the\arrayvalue whatever 20 30 \the\arrayvalue whatever 30 30 Some more info can be found in the last chapoter of the evenmore.pdf document. The question is: do we need this, and if so, do we need more of that. It's a bit chicken-egg case: we can have lua and can pipe back to tex, and we can stay at the tex end. This is a lmtx only feature. Just for the record: these are macros, not primitives, but they are rather efficient and have hardly any overhead. The floats can be in 1.23 format, 1.23e45 format and also in 0x12p34 format, while integers can be in 123 format and 0x123 format; the hex float format is lua's way of being roundtrip. Hopefully there are no side effects. \goto works but links don't when passed via textext() in METAPOST

I am trying to get an URL link in a textext() via METAPOST. I’ve got this before \starttext (or after, tried both): \setupinteraction [state=start, color=blue, style=bold] The intended link shows up in blue and bold, but it is not clickable. Would it be possible in LMTX to do something like variable font/lineheight to fit a fixed frame?

Suppose I have a fixed sized frame, say 3 y 4 cm. And I have a variable-length text. Would it be possible to write a macro that scaled the font and line height such that the text will fit in the frame? What I have now is very basic: Fixed width Typeset (METAPOST textext()) If too high METAPOST: scale down so it fits in frame But the scaling wil scale both height and width so it doesn’t only go to the correct height, it also gets too narrow. Just scaling in the vertical direction squashes the text/font. What would be great is some way to have the font size and lineheight result from TeX trying to fit it inside a predetermined size. Doesn’t need to be perfect, a good approximation will do. I’ve been thinking about using the surface size difference between desired box size and the result of textext() as an approach to guess a right fontsize and line height. What could make it possible for me too is a way to do a typeset command from lua that gives me the box sizes of typesetting without actually typesetting it to the true output of the job. Something like typeset a piece of text without actually outputting it to the PDF output in a width (say 4) get the width and height of the result (say 4 x 6) Adapt front size and lineheight (from 4x6 to 4x3 means a 50% reduction, which may be too much as the result may have just a syllable on the last line) typeset for real in 50% size Is that doable? Or is there a better way? G

METAPOST subpath rounding issue

I have a METAPOST algorithm that splits a path at a certain time in two, does something with both ends (not the ends where they were split) and then rejoins them. In very rare cases this crashes, because the subpath doesn’t work as expected. firstPart := subpath (0,halfWayTime) of workingConn; secondPart := subpath (halfWayTime,pathTimeLen) of workingConn; may sometimes result in something like this: metapost log > >> Path at line 0: metapost log > (273,-427)..controls (259.50666666666666,-427) and (246.01333333333335,-427) metapost log > ..(232.52000000000001,-427) metapost log > metapost log > >> Path at line 0: metapost log > (232.51999999999998,-427)..controls (161.68000000000001,-427) and (90.840000000 metapost log > 000003,-427) metapost log > ..(20,-427) As can be seen in these (rare) cases the two calls to subpath result in a different point resulting from both. so, when I later try to rejoin them with & it fails: metapost log > ! Again, this is rare. \mathopen, \Uover and friends

Hi Hans, Thanks for the quick fix of today's upload. I could typeset your examples with \mathopen, \mathclose and these are great features in order to fine tune the spacing in math mode. Regarding the new command \Uover, I thought maybe it would be more consistent to have the usual structure ${1} \Uover {2}$ like the more friendly ${1} \over {2}$ instead of having $\Uover{1}{2}$ which is more like the \frac structure. Also a structure like $\Uover style \textstyle{1}{2}$ seems a little bit far from the usual ConTeXt atmposphere… Would it not be possible to have ${1} \Uover[style=textstyle] {2}$ instead? I know this is quite an old thread, but here is a minimal parser (\units with an “s”) that wraps around \digits and \unit to produce an acceptable output. As I frequently need to write ranges (or measures of uncertainty), I find it convenient to able to type \units{4.0 to 5.0 centi meter} than \digits{4.0}\,to\,\unit{5.0 centi meter}. Also, the parser will take care of exponents and bracket them accordingly. :D ranges: keyword “to”: 4.0 – 5.0 cm SEM: keyword “se”: 4.5 ± 0.5 cm SD: keyword “sd”: 4.5 (0.5) cm If no keyword is present, the default behaviour is \unit{…}. Current version 2020.05.09 08:55 not working

Hi Hans, I just updated to the latest version 2020.05.09 08:55 but when trying your examples with \mathopenup and friends noticed that ConTeXt is stuck with resolvers > lua > loading file '/context-osx-64/tex/texmf-context/tex/context/base/mkiv/math-spa.lua' succeeded or with context report > file: cont-en-status.html and other such messages. Actually even with a simple example like \starttext Test \stoptext one cannot run the latest version at least on MacOS X (I did remove the texmf cache). When in a Terminal window I issue the commands context --make -all I see that there is an error message like: tex error > tex error on line 2981 in file math-ini.mkxl: ! Undefined control sequence l.2981 \normalsupmarkmode \plusone % 2 also disable ^[^+] in text mode <empty file> The control sequence at the end of the top line of your error message was never \def'ed. Hi, I uploaded a new version of lmtx and there are some experimental features that users cna play with so that we can think about related interfacing. (I won't mention soem in the lua department that I'm still exploring myself.) When you use a math symbol its class property determines the spacing. One can use \mathopen etc to wrap such a character an dmake it behave different. The alternative is: $\Uover{1}{2}$ etc which looks forward but is otherwise compatible, apart from supporting an optional keyword $\Uover style \scriptscriptstyle{1}{2}$ etc $\Uover style \textstyle{1}{2}$ etc At some point I will adapt some context code to this. mkiv digits/units zero padding not working

Hi, I’m trying to get \digits{15.0=}±\digits{1.00} \digits{_8.12}±\digits{0.34} horizontally aligned as 15.0 ±1.00 8.12±0.34 But I get 15.0±1.00 8.12±0.34 instead. From the source (phys-dim.mkiv), I can see that “=“ should expand to \hphantom{0}. (I think \zeropoint in the table is outdated, since \def\zeropoint\hphantom{0} does not solve the problem either.) I can’t use tabulate or alignment in math mode for this problem unfortunately. Any hints would be very welcome. Thanks Benjamin

mkiv \digits{2.0=} zero padding feature request

Hi, As Wolfgang has figured out, zero padding in \digits only works for trailing (and omitted) zeroes when immediately preceded by the decimal separator. It would be nice if this would work even if there is a number preceding, so that \digits{3.1=}x\crlf \digits{3.==}x\crlf \digits{3.14}x would align at the decimal separator when right aligned. This is useful in some circumstances, where the number of significant digits varies between sources, so that one needs to typset for example \digits{3.1=}±\digits{0.5}\crlf \digits{3.28}±\digits{0.12} Thanks! \placetable[location=split] reference ??

Hi, I would like to reference a table of the following structure. \starttext \startplacetable[reference=tab1,title={A table},location=split] \startxtable \startxrow \startxcell hi \stopxcell \stopxrow \stopxtable \stopplacetable In Table \in[tab1] \stoptext It has [location=split], which I need this because xtable doesn’t like to be placed without a split; and apparently neither does it accept the \placetable[ref]{...} syntax. However, the reference is now no longer detected. I can see that the split table’s caption is about to become "Table 1.a.", "Table 1.b" etc. and I appreciate that this is potentially a quite complex mechanism anyways, but if there was any chance to get a reference as “Table 1”, I would be helped a lot. On similar lines, is there a way to have “Table 1 (continued).” in the caption? Cheers Benjamin

long caption in 2-page spread

The following excellent solution (see below) to a 2-page spread of an image was given me by Hans (I had been completely unaware of the command \startspread. It appears to be recent and undocumented, but it certainly simplifies matters). But in my case the title is a lengthy sentence, rather than the 4-word 'This is a cow'. And even though I have been able to split the line, e.g. title={this is my very, very, very,\\ very etc. etc. long title}, what happens is that part of the caption still appears on the right-hand page of the spread. Is there a way that I can limit the appearance of the caption to just one (the left-hand) page? In other words, so the figure is spread but not the caption? Or alternatively, have the caption neatly split across the two pages with appropriate space inbetween? I tried various combinations, including an \hfill halfway through the title, but to no avail. Perhaps this is asking too much, but there may be a workaround. how to interrupt doublesided in particular instance

Hi list, I have a document set up in a standard way (\setuppagenumbering[alternative=doublesided]) to ensure that new chapters always begin on a recto page, but in one particular instance only, I want the new chapter to start on the next (verso) page instead of creating a blank then starting on the recto side. I thought I might have been able to force that with \page[no] immediately after the previous chapter concluded or before \chapter{My new chapter}, but this command is ignored (and may well be the wrong command to achieve what I want). Is there a way to interrupt the setup so the new chapter in this case can start on the verso page? Julian

conflict between colored emoji and save/restore

ConTeXt version stuck at 2020.01.30

Hi! Has something changed regarding the installation/update procedure? ConTeXt seems to be stuck at 2020.01.30 and downloading the newest version results in that very version. Steps to reproduce: rsync -ptv rsync://contextgarden.net/minimals/setup/first-setup.sh . sh ./first-setup.sh . tex/setuptex context --version → current version: 2020.01.30 14:13 According to https://minimals.contextgarden.net/current/context/ the directory “latest” seems to contain the latest version, rather than the “beta”. first-setup.sh however uses the “beta” directory. Has something changed and first-setup.sh hasn't been updated to reflect that change? Or is something else going on? Definition of \registerpagerange

Hello fellow ConTeXies, since April 2019 it is possible to use \setupregister with compress=text which is a fine addition and has its use cases. Unfortunately, I am confronted with the demand to style the registers with 'f.' for a following single page and else with page ranges. Since the Definition of \registerpagerange is not well documented I don't know which parameter to check for the conditional statement when rewriting it. Could you please give me a hint? Shift tabulate into margin and center

Hi all, I’ve a page layout with a broad left margin. I’d like to create frames in the text which utilize the margin and the typearea with centered contents. I managed to do this with the following code, but I wonder if there is an easier and more elegant way to do this in ConTeXt, especially the centering of the tabulation. How do I add cyrillic to my typescript/document?

I am looking for a way to amend a typescript for the additional use of cyrillic characters. So, either I have te use another typescript. I tried creating a Helvetica (as Helvetica.ttc on macOS seems to have cyrillic characters) but did not succeed. I also tried \language[ru] without any \setupbodyfont hoping it would also fix the font issue but keep getting fonts > checking > char –® (U+00428) in font 'LMRoman10-Regular' with id 8: missing I read the languages-mkiv document but it did not say what I had to do about fonts. What do I have to do to get both English and Russian in my document in terms of fonts? G

Changing the font size in an environment changes the behavior of a macro

Three-deep itemize fails on LMTX

List, The following example works with MkIV latest, but fails with LMTX latest (Win10 x64). The complaint is ! Missing math style, treated as \displaystyle. \starttext \startitemize \item Level 1 first \startitemize \item Level 2 first \startitemize \item Level 3 first \stopitemize \stopitemize \stopitemize \stoptext The culprit is the third level of itemize -- without that it is clean on both engines. Placing number in \sqrt

Hello, compare placing "3" in the following examples: ---- \starttext $\sqrt[3]{5}$ % (1) \par $\sqrt[3~]{5}$ % (2) \stoptext ---- In the first case, the "3" is placed naturally by ConTeXt and placed more in the centre of "V" part of the square sign. In the second example, the "3" is shifted manually by adding "~" and the final placement seems to me a bit better. What is your opinion - is the case (1) OK/intended and user should avoid any manual shifting? Or manual shifting is OK? Or is there a way to affect this placement globally in ConTeXt, e.g. setting an internal variable? Best regards, Lukas

--silent and so on

Hi everybody I am a current context user since now many years and in particular I use it with automatic compilation with a bash script detecting any modifications of the .tex file. In order for this to work I used with previous versions the --nonstopmode --batchmode --silent --noconsole options With these options when an error occured the previous pdf produced was not changed. Now with the last version appears a single page pdf file with ERROR written on it. Is there a way to have something similar as before ? Any ideas. Thanks

followtext, lmt_followtext and an offset of the glyphs typeset along the path

I have been looking at lmt_followtext and followtext to get typesetting done along a path. That works fine, except that in my case, I need the text to not be exactly on that path, I need it to hover slightly above tor below he path. Given that the path may have an unpredictable form, that means that all the glyphs need to be shifted a bit, there is no generic transfrom of the entire text string that will work, It should look a bit like this: Could I for instance change a TeX snippet to shift all the glyphs (individually) up a bit before handing it to followtext(), that would be a non-intelligent way of going about it (as it would of course also stretch/shrink the space between the glyphs when a bend is rounded, but I can live with that for now) G
