issue with scite module

Dear list, I have the following sample: \usemodule[scite] \starttext \startTEXpage[offset=1ex] \type[option=xml]{<ans/>} \type[option=xml]{<áñß/>} \stopTEXpage \stoptext Using scite, I don’t get the second element right. Without scite, both elements are displayed right. In both Geany and Notepad++ (which use Scintilla internally), the two elements are displayed right. Could anyone confirm the issue? ugly bug

Hi, several times I got problems with my publishing house when they noticed that the headerlines jump up and down on pages that end/begin with qoutes (i.e. smaller interlineskip), see example below: on page 1 the blackrule is about 1mm higher than on page 2. In the past I then used really laborious workarounds to get these single pages in the correct way (without jumping)… manual pagebreak, re-define layout etc. But as the pages are hard to find it would be better that the layout would be reliable consistent. How can this be solved? How do I turn off indentation inside a \framed with align=?

I have these kinds of statements \framed[frame=off,align=flushleft,width=\textwidth]{\phrasetext{metamodelexplanation}} but the text inside the frame is typeset with indentation. I tried \setupindenting both before and after \starttext, (none,no,never) but that doesn’t work. How do I turn indenting off in all frameds with align=flushleft or otherwise *everywhere*? Compiling a large metapost document

If you have many marginals, they tend to conflict. The option stack=yes should enhance the situation. I don’t expect wonders – if there’s not enough space, then ConTeXt can’t solve it. But it used to work better, as I can see in my magazines from the last years. Changing font and font size inside textex

Dear list, I want to be able to change the font and the font size inside a MPpage. But if I try to prepend \switchtobodyfont to the text inside textext it doesn't work. I'm using the following macro to set the font size via h-height: \starttexdefinition setxheight [#1][#2] \switchtobodyfont[#1, 12pt] \scratchdimen=\dimexpr#2\relax \switchtobodyfont[#1, \cldcontext{tex.dimen.scratchdimen / tex.sp"1ex" * tex.sp"1em" .. Context path resolving, Problem with MkIV and TeXLive

Hi, I'm having a problem with TeXLive 2021 in conjunction with MkIV. Basically, executing context results in: % context mtxrun | unknown script 'context.lua' or 'mtx-context.lua I researched this and found that probably there is a path problem. LaTeX seems to be using kpathsea and /etc/texmf.cnf while context uses texmfcnf.lua. Looking into this file, it defines nearly all paths relative to "home:" or "selfautoparent:". Home is self explaining. I have no clue what selfautoparent is and also did not find an explanation in the internet. Anyway, selfautoparent seems not to be resolved correctly. I figured this by running `mtxrun --variables`. Running context or mtxrun anywhere else does not work. Can you help me fixing that? Do I need to edit texmfcnf.lua or is there a correct place for setting the tex installation directory? My distribution is Gentoo. I use the texlive packages from there. Also, this Gentoo bug is related: https://bugs.gentoo.org/740442 So probably, this is a Gentoo packaging problem. However, I'm asking here because I think that you know best about the search path internals. My main problem is to understand the path and variable resolving of context. Setting up zint on a mac with macOS Montery Version 12.3.1

Hi All I have been struggling today trying to setup and use the Barcode module zint in ConTeXt and failed. I have followed the instructions on the wiki ( https://wiki.contextgarden.net/Barcodes ) but with some changes as follows. Which maybe why I failed. 1) I downloaded Zint using Homebrew since I'm using macOS, and installed it according to the instructions. 2) Since I'm using LMTX I looked for the file libzint.dylib and found it in /opt/homebrew/Cellar/zint/2.10.0/lib . This is different from the path given on the wiki. The directory contained three files, two of which were aliases, libzint.2.10.dylib and libzint.dylib, and an exe file libzint.2.10.0.0.dylib 3) I created the path $TEXROOT/tex/texmf-osx-64/bin/lib/luametatex/zint and copied libzint.2.10.0.0.dylib into but replaced dylib with 'so' as suggested on the wiki instructions. So I basically added lib/luametatex/zint to texmf-osx-64/bin . 4) I ran mtxrun --generate to update the database. 5) I ran the MWE below but no barcode appeared. The console output shows: /modules > using user prefixed file 'libs-imp-zint'/ // /modules > 'zint' is loaded/ however further down the output it gives: /optional > unable to locate library 'libzint'/ // I have tried renaming libzint2.10.0.0.so to libzint.so, but still no barcode. Is their something I am missing? Tips or hints appreciated. MathML when processing XML

This feels like a really stupid question but I can't find an answer to it anywhere. When processing an XML file directly with ConTeXt, i.e. using \startxmlsetups rules, how can I make use of the MathML module for the MathML content in my XML source? Should I include a specific piece of code with a \registerctxluafile command as well as / instead of \usemodule[mathml]? Do I need to use something other than \xmlflush to pass the XML to the module? Sorry, it's probably obvious but I can't work it out! Thanks. Duncan

There are also intel solaris builds now but no installers for those platforms (yet). How to install the ConTeXt-SBL module?

I had https://github.com/jjmccollum/context-sbl this module working fine, but ran and update, and somehow it deleted my extra files. I can't figure out how I was able to get it working in the first place--I had just copied all the files to a folder somewhere. What is the correct way to install an unofficial ConTeXt module, such as this one? --Joel

How to include a file with table data within a table?

After a recent update to ConTeXt, the code no longer seems to allow me to \input a file within a table: \starttext \starttabulate[|p(.3\textwidth)|p(.7\textwidth)|] \HL \NC {\bf Term} \NC {\bf Definition} \NC\NR \HL \input test2.tex %<----here you see I have input a file inside the table \HL \stoptabulate \stoptext File test2.tex contains "\NC {\bf Term} \NC {\bf Definition} \NC\NR". I also tried defining a macro earlier in the document... \define[2]\tablewordis{% \NC \NC \NC\NR \NC #1 \NC #2 \NC\NR } ...then placing that in test2.tex, e.g.: \tablewordis{my word}{my definition} I get the error: " The file ended when scanning an argument." Before the update, this code worked fine. How can I \input a file while inside a table environment, as above? I have a document that has 100s of these inputs in my code, and now nothing will compile. Pull quote between two column - trial

Hi all, hope you are all doing well. I am still trying to display pull quote between two columns. lmt_parshape is really helpfull. I need to add a 1pt gap to make the left column behave correctly, but the right column remains shifted one line below the intended one. Question1: any clue ? Offseting the baseline grid, and irregular columnsets

Dear list, My adventures into the world of grids continue. In the linked file (slide_grid_overlay.pdf) there are two things I cannot yet achieve: 1. I want the baseline grid to evenly (vertically) divide the text area, but my code produces a smaller height of the first line and an additional space at the bottom. 2. The number of columns is 21.5, that is the first column is 0.5 units wide and the rest are 1 unit wide. How would I achieve this? Hello list, forgive me if my question is too general and trivial and without a minimum code. In the current state of ConTeXt development, which engine do you recommend to use *definitively*? ConTeXt MkIV or LMTX? I use macOS 10.15.7, on which I have MacTeX-2022, ConTeXt Standalone and ConTeXt LMTX. My editor is TeXShop 4.72 (the last one), even if Synctex doesn't work too well: source to PDF is almost OK, but PDF to source is still very inaccurate, not to mention that to activate the direct and reverse search you have to write such a thing as %! TEX TS-program = ConTeXt2021 %! TEX useAlternatePath %! TEX useConTeXtSyncParser \setupsynctex [state=start, method=min] \starttext ... \stoptext I also have the latest TeXworks on board, but I don't understand how to set it up. Help needed with slide grid layout

Dear list, This is a follow-up question on my previous question about Jean-Luc Doumont and his grid layouts. This time I have concrete questions. I reverse engineered his slide (slide_grid_overlay.pdf). All his units are based on inches, because the inch is an integer multiple (72) of the TeX point. His base unit is 0.1in. I tried implementing the layout first, but the pdf dimensions do not match the ones I set up. For example the width should be 8 inches, but the pdf is over 11 inches wide. I wish to shut off all margins and similar things and only have a text area with an offset of 0.2in all around the page (see slide_grid_overlay.pdf). Callbacks in LuaMetaTeX

Hi list, I've been playing around with some of the Lua callbacks in LuaMetaTeX, and I have a few questions/comments. Context: I'm writing a Plain/LaTeX/ConTeXt module called "lua-widow-control" that uses Lua callbacks to automatically remove widows and orphans from documents. The relevant Lua code is at: https://github.com/gucci-on-fleek/lua-widow-control/blob/master/source/lua-… in case you're curious about how I'm using these callbacks, but you shouldn't need to look there since this email is self-contained. 1. In LMTX, calling "tex.linebreak" produces a luatex warning > tex: left parfill skip is gone warning. I don't get this warning in Plain LuaTeX, LuaLaTeX, or MkIV, so I think that it's specific to LuaMetaTeX. The LuaMetaTeX manual hardly mentions "left parfill skip"/"parfillleftskip", so I'm not too sure what to do to avoid this warning. Right now I'm using the low-level engine interface ("callback.register"), but this is pretty fragile since any format update could block this. Plus, it would be more convenient for me if I could register all of the callbacks the same way. The way I'm doing it right now seems to work well enough though, so this doesn't matter too much. 5. Off-topic, but is there a good way to trace node memory leaks? Documents larger than ~1600 pages run out of node memory when I load lua-widow-control, so I know that I'm leaking nodes somewhere, but it's pretty tricky to trace. Are there any "tricks" to find leaked nodes, or do I just need to watch my allocations very carefully? Sorry if any of these points don't make much sense or have already been answered elsewhere. Numbering in mathalignment not working

Hi, [I am on version 2022.05.11 11:36] I think either a bug might have crept into one of the recent uploads or there is some change in behaviour – numbering of statements inside mathalignment blocks is not working: only one statement is numbered even if multiple are requested. The following example does not produce the expected result (sample attached): both the equations should be numbered when only the first one is – \starttext \placeformula \startformula \startmathalignment \NC a \NC = b \NR[eq:one] \NC c \NC = d \NR[eq:two] \stopmathalignment \stopformula \stoptext Also the [+] options and the second optional argument of \NR does not work as expected. Has its behaviour changed? I ran into this when I compiled a large maths-heavy document and while proof- reading noticed numerous missing references to statements inside mathalignment. I wonder if someone can help me interpret this message in the log file fonts > start missing characters: /home/jbf/bin/context/tex/texmf/fonts/opentype/public/tex-gyre/texgyrepagella-regular.otf fonts > 88 U+00336 ̶ COMBINING LONG STROKE OVERLAY fonts > stop missing characters My questions are as follows: 1. What does 88 mean here? 88 instances of this missing glyph? Page 88? Or something else? or in other words, how might I discover where something is missing from the original text? 2. Tex Gyre Pagella is normally a pretty handy typeface to use for me because it has pretty much all the glyphs I normally need... except this one obviously! Isn't it really just an en rule (or very similar to such)? Or in other words, how do I best overcome the problem of this missing character? 3. And perhaps connected with the above question: is there good fallback solution one can use? Do I need to \definefontfallback something or is there an automatic one already happening? I've started to examine the log files a bit more carefully for various items and it is showing up my ignorance!! Julian

ignore not closed tags in XML input

Dear list, I would like to feed https://seumasjeltzz.github.io/LinguaeGraecaePerSeIllustrata/001.html as XML input for ConTeXt. The problem is that (as many other XML files that I haven’t generated myself) some <meta> and <link> tags aren’t closed, such as in: <meta charset="utf-8"> <link href="https://fonts/css?greek" rel="stylesheet"> <link href="style.css" rel="stylesheet"> So, all that I get is the following message: invalid xml file - parsed text Unsuccessfully I have tried the following: \xmlsetsetup{#1}{html/head/(meta|link)}{-} Is there no way to make ConTeXt more tolerant, so that it is able to ignore those tags? MetaFun manual's "texvar" is not working for me

Hello list, I’m trying to reproduce the positional graphics examples in the MetaFun manual on pp. 151-153. There are two examples of code for the mpos:box. The first example uses \MPvar to retrieve variables set using \setupMPvariables. This works fine. The second example uses texvar to retrieve variables, but it does not work in the current LMTX. However, the second example does work with my TeXLive install. I’ve put my working example below, with both versions of the mpos:box code. Log output from a failed run is below that. Any ideas where I might be going wrong? Thanks! can't accent/fake characters in euler font

Hello all, typesetting accented characters in eulernova font does not seem possible to me. Is it really impossible? The other math fonts (stix/xits) do it. overthinking overprinting

A question on TeX-D-L reminded me to look into this subject. At the moment, there is \setupcolors[intent=overprint|knockout] with \startoverprint|knockout, as defined in colo-ext.mkxl|mkiv. I’m not sure what that does as a general setting – usually you need overprinting for black text and lines in CMYK documents. There are special cases where you want other (spot) colors to overprint, but that’s quite rare, and I can use transparency features to achieve the same (a=multiply) in an even more flexible way – as long as I don’t need a format like PDF/X-3 that doesn’t allow transparencies. If I declare such a format, ConTeXt just switches off transparencies and doesn’t try to emulate (“flatten”) them as e.g. InDesign does. So it would be nice if I could e.g. \definecolor[OPred][m=1,y=1,intent=overprint] OTOH there are cases where I want a black area or text to knockout the background, these might work with \startknockout etc. When I try my example: \useMPlibrary[dum] \setupcolors[ rgb=no,cmyk=yes, intent=overprint,% or knockout ] \setupbodyfont[modern,ss,18pt] \starttext \definecollector[Test] \setcollector [Test] {\externalfigure[none][width=8cm,height=6cm,frame=on]} \setcollector [Test] [corner=middle,location=middle] {{\bf Toast}} \setcollector [Test] [corner={left,top},location={right,bottom}] {\framed{LT}} \setcollector [Test] [corner={left,bottom},location={right,top}] {\framed{LB}} \composedcollector{Test} \stoptext ... then the text is “knocked out” regardless how set the intent. Rendering Standalone MetaPost Graphics with ConTeXt

I’d like to use MetaPost to generate all sorts of standalone graphics (ultimately converted to SVG). For various reasons (among others, MetaFun and advanced text processing) I want to use MetaPost as embedded in ConTeXt rather than a standalone installation. ---- metapost.mp ---- fill fullcircle scaled 10cm; ---- Whether I run context metapost.mp or mtxrun --script metapost metapost.mp I get a PDF document that contains no page. The mtxrun version generates the following temp file: ---- mptopdf-temp.tex ---- \starttext \startMPinclusions fill fullcircle scaled 10cm; \stopMPinclusions \stoptext ---- Looking at the wiki, it seems that \startMPinclusions is not meant to actually render any content, just to include MetaPost code like function definitions. I guess I would have expected \startMPpage instead. Am I doing something wrong, or is that an error in ConTeXt? Thanks, Vincent

Hi y’all, at the latest online meeting as well as within the CG board, we were discussing the ConTeXt meeting in 2023, since nothing is planned yet. [date] The usual fall date makes it difficult for students and teachers to attend. We were discussing a date in August (or even July). Would that make a difference for you? What would you prefer? One argument against a date within the summer holidays is that many venues are booked for years in advance, but we got at least one offer (see below). [place] While we were due to go to Eastern Europe again, it looks like Jano as well as Mojca are too busy to organize a meeting. (And I’m very sorry if I misunderstood!) Please stand up whoever would like to organize next year’s meeting! Otherwise I might invite you to Maibach again (where we were in 2017), they told me they still have open slots in summer. PDF/A-3, XMP and Factur-X

Hi again, I’m looking into extending my ConTeXt-made invoices with embedded XML data according to the DE/FR Factur-X standard (in Germany also known as ZUGFeRD). Does anyone have some experience with that? For that, I need PDF/A-3(a) compliant documents – current documentation is only on PDF/A-1(a), but that doesn’t seem to be the problem. Now I’m supposed to put additional information into the XMP metadata. I found lpdf-xmp.lua; but it seems like I can’t just use \startluacode lpdf.addtoinfo("TEST","Hraban was here!") lpdf.addxmpinfo("UStID","123456") \stopluacode Would I need to add my tags to the mapping table of lpdf-xmp.lua? Or circumvent it after a look at the function concerned: function lpdf.addxmpinfo(tag,value,check) local pattern = permitdetail(tag) if type(pattern) == "string" then xmlfillin(xmp or valid_xmp(),pattern,value,check) end end If I try to use xml.fillin, I apparently need the name of the current xml file, but valid_xmp is a local function. If just use the default... xml.fillin("lpdf-pdx.xml","metadata","UStID","123456") ... at least I find no traces of that key in the extended metadata dialog of Acrobat Pro 9. I also tried different values like "xmp" instead of metadata. Clearly I don’t understand what I’m doing here ;) Is there a check against some schema involved? It looks like I should include an additional XMP schema for Factur-X with the URI "urn:factur-x:pdfa:CrossIndustryDocument:invoice:1p0#", prefix "fx". How can I do that? Does writing \emdash versus writing "—" in the source file impact the displayed output?

I have been using \endash, \emdash, and \figuredash in place of the various types of dashes in my document, \quotation{} around quotes, etc. so basically the only really punctuation appearing in the tex file are periods, commas, semi-colons, colons, apostrophes, and question-marks. The problem I have is when copying to a tool like Grammarly for grammar checks, these special symbols throw off the grammar-checking tools. Does ConTeXt render and display these punctuation differently when I write them in the coded form, versus simply writing in the unicode directly? --Joel

Hi everybody, After some attempts to put footnotes in a mixed 1&2 columns layout, I decide to put marks in the one-column environment and flush them when entering the two-column environment. The code is ugly but the result is acceptable. Except that the invisible footnote marks do generate something in the main text, so there's a blank line for each footnote. Achieving the style of Jean-Luc Doumont

Dear list, Years ago I stumbled upon the work of Jean-Luc Doumont. He typesets all his documents using TeX, although his modified Version called Quantum. The whole idea of his fascinating approach is that the page is quantized in 2 dimensions and that all positioning, even graphical elements stick to that grid. I'm attaching a link to a presentation by him in which he gives some fragments of code that I, unfortunately, have a hard time understanding. I'm interested in replicating this 2d grid in Context. How would one go about enforcing such strict 2d organization? As I get it he does a lot of manual tweaking, and his documents are less automated and more hand crafted than a typical Context document. I'm specifically interested in using this approach for report generation. To me data I/O is not an issue since I would use a Python script to generate the markup. I know the question is pretty general, but any pointers would be welcome. Maybe the first thing useful would be the grid and how to position everything in accordance with it. I envisioned this thread more for discussion and suggestions than a complete recreation of his ideas. As I learn Context and Metapost, I hope I will figure out how to recreate his work. lua-widow-control module error in LMTX

Hi, I would like to know if anyone has experienced the same error with the lua-widow-control module when compiling the pdf: modules > 'lua-widow-control' is loaded open source > level 2, order 3, name '/opt/luametatex/texmf-modules/tex/context/third/lua-widow-control/t-lua-widow-control.mkxl'. resolvers > lua > unknown file 'lua-widow-control.lua' lua error > lua error on line 74 in file /opt/luametatex/texmf-modules/tex/context/third/lua-widow-control/t-lua-widow-control.mkxl The odd thing is that line 75 of the t-lua-widow-control file is empty. On the other hand, I confess that I don't know what "resolvers" means when it says it doesn't know the lua-widow-control.lua file. I don't see any mention of this file within the t-lua-widow-control module. Could it be that this module is not yet mature for lmtx, or am I missing something? I have \usemodule[lua-widow-control] in my tex document, and I haven't forgotten to do the prescribed mtxrun --generate after including the module in my third-party folder of my luametatex installation on Arch. Dear list, I wonder whether there is a conditional for font features similar to \doifelseitalic. \doifelsecurrentfonthasfeature checks whether the font supports an OpenType feature. \doifunknownfontfeature checks whether the font feature has been defined. It seems that \doifelsefontfeature checks whether the font feature has been defined or not. blockligatures removing characters

Hi List, I'm using blockligatures to avoid the 'Th' ligature in some fonts but keep others. Recently I've found this removes the 'h' completely, i.e. 'Th' is changed to 'T', 'The' becomes 'Te' etc. Is there a way to restore the blockligatures functionality? I'm on ConTeXt version 2022.05.02 16:19. Hello, I've just started upgrading some systems to OpenBSD 7.1 (released last month) and found out there isn't a link to download LMTX for OpenBSD 7.1 at https://wiki.contextgarden.net/Installation. I then thought I'd try to see if the previous versions (for 6.9 or 6.8) would work on 7.1, but it turned out that all four links (for both 32bits and 64bits) won't work. FreeBSD and Linux links work fine, Any help for me to get the installation scripts for OpenBSD 7.1, please? Thank you in advance. Cheers, Ángel

Custom type-imp file creating empty lines

In the next upload metafun will use 'double' mode (and scaledfun will be the traditional one). cross-reference query solved

To those who assisted me with helpful hints yesterday, thank you. I finally got the cross-referencing working correctly after examining my overall structure in the light of those hints. I think that what was preventing things from working properly, was that I had all the entries for a particular chapter enclosed in a setup. I won't go into why I had adopted that approach, but in restructuring things far more sensibly, I was able to do away with the \start\...\stop setups. I think this is what was causing the problem. What is the easiest way to have a ‘database’ of translations for strings and maybe links? I now have 4 languages and 2 versions so 8 documents, but I’d like to have all translatable strings together so I can maintain these in a single file. Ideally I can do a file where the key of the translation is one language (say English) and the translations are part of that. The journal requires the titles to be CAPITALISED, except for the acronyms. I'm currently using backticks `...` to wrap it and replace it with \egroup ...\WORD\bgroup{} with lpeg. This kinda works, but that's so ugly. Besides, the actual story is that I also want to add markdown as an option, so the backticks actually have meanings. I also checked the typo-cap.lua file to get a clue. But I used to use TeX exclusively and I have to admit that it's so overwhelming for a newbie. I really like the way where bibtex treats words enclosed in curly braces are ignored. Or are there something that's less aggressive than \WORD so the LaTeX trick works: \def\NoCaseChange#1{\noexpand\NoCaseChange{\noexpand#1}} Best wishes, ℤhichu ℂhen

Hi list, In an attempt to make a dictionary interactive in certain ways, perhaps I am misusing the \in{}[] command here, but sometimes a reference works and sometimes it doesn't. I have no idea why it doesn't. Here is the situation: Each dictionary entry is a section that has been defined as 'entry', hence we have a \startentry[title=,marking=,reference=]...\stopentry structure. Many entries can refer to other entries in the dictionary (in most cases the headword is in Italian, but the definitions, explanations are in English in all cases). in 90% of cases my referencing is working, so here is an example of one that works when \setupinteraction[state=start] is set: \startentry[title={1aetà},marking={1aetà},reference={eta}]\\ 1. youth. 2. first age. {\emnp.} \bullet\enspaceThe age between adolescence and maturity and by extension all of the human being’sfirst age (as opposed to old age). Different cultures distinguish} age groupings in different ways. One would be unlikely to find, in English, terms like first age, second age etc. as recorded here. In fact there are probably only three general groupings in English: young, middle-aged, elderly, and the boundaries are rather flexible for these. Among the young category, English might distinguish infants, children, adolescents young adults. \rightarrow\enspace \in{giovani}[giovani] \stopentry In other words, there is an entry called 'giovani' and it begins \startentry[title={giovani},marking={giovani},reference={giovani}]. That correctly gives me a bold green clickable link which takes me to 'giovani'. There is no number or page reference involved. I simply want the link to take me to the entry concerned. But it does not always work. I have another entry called 'ad nutum' (Latin, not Italian in this case) with a reference to 'segretario' many pages on. I am absolutely sure I have the reference for segretario properly set up, both in its own entry and by calling it as I did for 'giovani', namely this time as \in{segretario}[segretario] but it is not recognized. This is not the only non-working case. There are several. Can anyone give me a hint as to what I might be doing wrong? I realise that usually these references call on page numbers or section numbers, but I don't want/need (or do I?) to use those. I simply the reader to be able to click on a hyperlink which takes them to the referenced entry. Julian

I need these to be consistent, as there is a background image, with vertical lines. Basically, if I call \chapter{}, it appears perfectly aligned vertically on the page, with no other settings. But when calling \completecontent or a similar title that won't get a number, because the number isn't placed, it is vertically higher on the page, but I need it to be printed the same height, as it it had an invisible number. I've tried adding strut (the code has it in two places), but don't know if I've used it appropriately, and it didn't solve the problem. --Joel

32-bit OpenBSD

Hi, How long do we want/need to keep running the builders for 32-bit OpenBSD? It's taking 2 or 3 times longer to build binaries than for the 64-bit OS (not that this is super relevant since ppc builder is a whole order of magnitude slower anyway: building TL there takes about 6 hours) and I suspect that nobody is using those 32-bit binaries anyway. I don't know if the processor itself contains any LaTeX specific code, but it looks like the integration basically happens here : https://github.com/zepinglee/citeproc-lua/blob/main/latex/citation-style-la… So, at least in theory, shouldn't it be possible to make this workable also with context? Crediting copyright on photographs

I need to include the copyright acknowledgement / photographer credit on an image but I'm not sure what's the best way to do it. Option 1: I can add the acknowledgement to the end of the \placefigure caption text: e.g. \placefigure{A picture of a cow. Image of a cow that may or may not be under copyright anymore.}{\externalfigure[cow][height=6cm]} then the copyright bit will appear in the Table of Figures which I don't really want to happen. Is there a way to truncate this? Option 2: some magazines print the copyright credit running up the side of the image, independently of the caption. XML: calculations on attribute values before output

Hi. I'm processing an XML table and need to set a row span. Because we use a variant of the CALS table model, spans are defined by an attribute saying how many *additional* rows should be spanned, as opposed to how many *in total*. So to translate this into TABLE \bTD[nr=X] syntax I need to add 1. I'm guessing this is very easily doable (in lua?) but I've tried various permutations and can't work it out. If anyone could give me a pointer that would be great. (In reality I'm going to need to handle lots of other conversions of attribute values into \bTD[...] commands, so if there's a generalised way of doing that sort of thing, or even better if someone has already tackled CALS tables in this way, that would also be great!) MWE below, but obviously it just passes the morerows="1" value straight through into \bTD[nr=1] so it doesn't give me a row span at all. Thanks in advance. how to choose a font variant "book" / LMTX

Hi there I have a quick question: I was successful to install and use a new font in LMTX (New Computer Modern). All good except that I’d like to use the »Book« variant instead of the »Regular« variant (NewCM10-Book.otf vs NewCM10-Regular.otf). Issue in btx rendering

Hi, [my current version: 2022.05.02 16:19] With the past two-or-so uploads, btx output seems to be broken in some cases. Compiling the below example \usebtxdataset[refs.bib] \usebtxdefinitions[aps] \starttext This reference has a tag which is in camel-case: \cite[Nielsen2011_ChernoffInformationExponentialFamilies] On the other hand this reference has a tag which is lower-case: \cite[vaart1998_asymptoticstatistics] \placelistofpublications \stoptext along with the bibtex file (refs.bib attached here), only the second citation entry has a properly rendered bibliography entry while the first one does not. Notably, any bibtex entries whose tags are not all lowercase (ASCII) are not rendered correctly. Instead, in the log I get publications > unknown tag 'nielsen2011_chernoffinformationexponentialfamilies' in dataset 'default' Almost all my entries in bib files are in camel-case since I find that to be easier to read and it gives me a better clue of what the item is. With some recent uploads I noticed that in publ-ini.lua 'tag' and 'field' entries were string.lowered(). Upon removing those statements, I am able to get the proper output. I also have certain bib files where the entries are not at all in ASCII (so I am not sure what the code might do there, I did not check in detail). I hope I can continue to use camel case for the tags (if its not too much to ask): is there some additional setting that I should change to allow this so that the output is rendered correctly? XML processing instructions

I have a big set of existing XML books (held in a derivative of DocBook) which I'm looking to start processing directly with ConTeXt. (Up to now I have a system which converts the XML into ConTeXt code which is then processed, but this is inefficient and lots of the code is now unsupported.) I've had some success producing output, but my first real sticking point has come with processing instructions. The existing XML contains lots of processing instructions of the form <?capdm whatever?>, some of which can be conditional and introduce new data etc. But I'd be happy at this stage if I could just process the most basic one of them, which is used to introduce a line stop in a running paragraph of text. My best guess at how to do this was to use the lxml.preprocessor function to convert the processing instruction into an element, and then process the element as normal. But (a) my attempt didn't work, and (b) there may well be a better way. Minimal working example below, except that obviously the processing instruction bit doesn't work! fatal error again in LMTX

Hi Hans, as already reported (https://mailman.ntg.nl/pipermail/ntg-context/2022/105443.html) LMTX (from 2022.05.02 16:19) quits messaging only fatal error with such a sample: \starttext \startitemize \item one \stoptext I know that \stopitemize is missing above. But in real--world documents, this mistake may need hours to be fixed. Would it be possible that LMTX could provide more verbose information about unfinished \start-commands? process list items differently depending on position in list

Hi, I need to process a comma separated list, and adapt the formatting according to the position of an item in the list (example below). Expected output would be: {\bf foo }, {\em bar} and baz. Is that possible? Can I somehow get the position of an item in the list? (My understanding is that \processcommalist and \processcommacommand apply a command to each list item, but there is no such thing as <position in the list>... I hope I'm wrong here.) Or is that something where using Lua would be a better choice?
