Hi all! I know that ConTeXt looks for files *higher*in the directory tree when it doesn't find them. But is there a way to tell ConTeXt to specifically look for files lower in the tree? One of my project - a dictionary - will involve thousands of component files, as the best way to manage its production is to keep every entry in an individual component file. But I'm a sucker for orderly and clean directories. I'd really like to group all my stuff into several subdirectories, below my main file. :-) Is it possible, or am I grasping at straws here? Thanks! Dear Mojca and Wolfgang, I am sorry to give you a unclear question. We usually write the chapter title "(a character) (chapter no) (a character) (chapter title)" and I know how to set chapter title as above form using setuplabel or setuphead. Your methods give me more choices. Then the \completecontent and \completeindex follows the above setup of chapters. My question was how to make the head title setup of contents and of indices free from the chapter setup? Now, I find that the prefix{"(a character) (chapter no) (a character)"} can be suppressed using "prefix=no" parameter in \setupcombinedlist for contents and indices. It seems to me that we may define a new format for contents and indices by using "command" in \setupcombinedlist. I'll test it soon. If there is a sample file for this, please let me know. TeX ligatures in XeTeX/LuaTeX: ``who needs them''?

Hello, just wondering: how many ConTeXt-ers depend on ligatures such as: '' (double quote) and '' (two single quotes) -> right double quote `` -> left double quote ,, -> DOUBLE LOW-9 QUOTATION MARK or even more weird ones: !` -> inverted exclam ?` -> inverted question << -> LEFT POINTING GUILLEMET (never heard of that ligature) >> -> RIGHT POINTING GUILLEMET Some ligatures are handy indeed: -- -> endash --- -> emdash ' -> right single quote (I'm, isn't etc.) I'm posting that question to get some feedback about which ones are expected to work/are fundamental for XeTeX & LuaTeX, so that others might be dropped from default additional font features (for third-party fonts). (I'm thinking about replacing tex-text in XeTeX with something: - more minimalistic - compatible with mkiv. Of course, users are still free to provide "tex-text" mapping explicitely as it's probably going to hang aound forever, together with XeTeX itself.) Mojca

"Semi-verbatim" - preserve whitespace - don't escape characters

Hi. I'm working on a document processor that has multiple backends for different output formats (XHTML, nroff, plain text, ConTeXt). The processor uses s-expression syntax with commands such as: (para "this is a paragraph") The various backends then convert this statement in their own way (using <p></p> tags in XHTML, for example). There is one command that allows rendering of external files based on whatever backend is selected: (render "file") The XHTML backend includes "file", escaping all 'illegal' characters such as <, >, & etc. The ConTeXt backend reads the file and also escapes characters, placing their TeX equivalent in the output - $\}$, $\backslash$ etc. Both backends place the contents of "file" directly in the output, they don't, for example, use the <object> tags in XHTML, or any ConTeXt file inclusion directives. This is desirable for many reasons that are out of scope for this post... The problem I am having is that one may do this: (para-verbatim (render "file")) The para-verbatim tag is meant to preserve whitespace in the output. For example, this becomes: <pre>contents of file</pre> in the XHTML output. Unfortunately, I've hit a wall when it comes to the ConTeXt equivalent: The ConTeXt backend reads in "file" and prints it to the output, escaping all reserved TeX characters, as mentioned earlier, but unfortunately there doesn't seem to be the equivalent of: \preservewhitespace contents of file \stoppreservingwhitespace "\starttyping" is too heavy handed in that it also escapes characters rather than just preserving whitespace (they've already been escaped by my document processor, as mentioned earlier). What I need is a directive that says "preserve whitespace" but does not escape reserved TeX characters. Does any such thing exist in ConTeXt? Unfortunately, I'm inexperienced with TeX so I don't know how feasible this is. -- dc

A word of caution: If you're looking for a 4WD sport utility to complement your suburban gentility, this probably isn't your vehicle. Bronco is a big, powerful off-roader that you have to clamber into. Although its road manners are tame enough, this vehicle is built for more than an occasional trip off the pavement. It also looks good. Like the Chevy K Blazer, the Bronco is a bit of a dinosaur. It's big, bulky, hard to climb into and somewhat outdated in looks and off-road chic. But the vehicle also has a staunch following who love its brawn, bulk and impressive power. Even on the most rugged trails of our test drive, the Bronco exhibited little body roll or choppiness. Yesterday, after I reinstalled TeXlive and updated ConTeXt, I got "kpathsea: Running mktextfm lmtypewriter10-regular " message. As a temporary method, I renamed mktextfm. I confirmed that such font file is in texlive opentype font folder and lm*.map files in map/dvipdfm folder. Is there anything that I have to do more? I couldn't see the solution in the list. booklet set up

Hello, I'm creating a textbook as a booklet (two A5 per A4), and have difficulties. 1) If I use imposition command \setuparranging, then Luatex doesn't process references. I know, there are workarounds, but I prefer to create A5 pages and then impose them using nice Acrobat plugin. However, I don't know how to make Luatex to process left and right pages differently (for future imposing). If I set "left margin", then it is really left through the document, but I need it to be on the right every second page, and vice versa. How to achieve it? (I tried 'mirrored' option in \setuppapersize, and got funny result) ;) 2) I was always scared by explanation of \showlayout on texshow: "Horizontal: (if singleside then outside is at right and inside is at left) =========== width => width of text area middle: automatic calculation consider A) params fit: automatic calculation consider A)+B) params dimension: cutspace should be 0 and is calculated according to backspace A) params: (\paperwidth=\backspace+\makeupwidth+\cutspace) backspace => width of inner margin cutspace => width of outer margin (if 0 then = backspace!) "... and so on. It looks like a program, not manual, and I never understood it, despite it explains very important concept, missed on Wiki -- 'fit' and 'middle' options. forbidden filenames in context?

backward compatibility [URGENT]

Hi, re-typesetting a book (that was last set with ConTeXt ver: 2007.08.09) I had to see that several pages now have a different line- break (and so the page-break and the TOC and the index register are changed) ... quite a mess. I guess is not so easy to find out what changes in the ConTeXt source result in these changes now. So to continue work it will be probably better to downgrade again my ConTeXt. Is there an easy way to do this, like using sudo ctxtools -- updatecontext and use the respective files from the museum? Thanks, Steffen

Hair space and non-breaking hyphen

Hi, I've seen two interesting Unicode characters that I would like to use: Hair space: U+200A (it's supposed to be a space that's small, used around emdashes sometimes). Non-breaking hyphen: U+2011 (an hyphen where the word is not supposed to be broken by hyphenation). I would like to know if I can use them in Context. Is Context going to respect non-breaking hyphens in hyphenation algorithms? Is hair space going to be what it is supposed to, no matter which font I use? Thanks, Maurício

hi, there is a bug in the feature processer of the latest current mkiv (I added a verbose resolved but forgot something) so ... update ... gettimeofday under XP

Hi, I run into the following error with the new version: 'luatools --generate' results in Error in lua file loading: r:\tex\texmf-mswin\bin\luatools.lua:1402: attempt to call field 'gettimeofday' (a nil value) There seems to be no 'os.gettimeofday' under Windows XP. Greek: GR or EL? Czech: CZ or CS? UK: Ukrainian or ...

Hello, I have noticed that ConTeXt uses "gr" for Greek, but the ISO code seems to be "el". Less problematic: should agr be grc instead? (OpenType uses PGR, but I'm not sure if that's the same thing.) What do the Greek experts say? Well, English is a story on its own. "us" and "uk" don't have their own codes as a separate language, and even worse: uk should stand for Ukrainian!!! "Norwegian" (which is not a language at all) should be patched (according to an old user request) once. A similar problem exists with: - Chinese (cn instead of zn) - Czech (cz instead of cs) - Vietnamese (vn instead of vi) - Ukrainian (ua instead of uk!!!) A case where I have no opinion: - deo Some languages have already changed their codes in the past: - Spanish: sp -> es - German: du -> de - Slovenian: si -> sl (no trace left, I hope :) My proposal would be to change: - gr -> el - agr -> grc - cz -> cs - vn -> vi - deo -> ? (if at all) gmh - German, Middle High (ca.1050-1500) goh - German, Old High (ca.750-1050) - cn -> zn (with *lots of care*) And to keep all the needed synonyms. (Besides that: to issue a warning if possible.) I have no idea what to do with Ukrainian and UK though. ------------- Another issue: some languages need some little modifications or alternatives: 1.) In German, Slovenian, Croatian, (maybe in other languages as well) ... one can use two types of quotes: - „" U+201E/U+201C & ‚' U+201A/U+2018 (sorry, a bug in gmail reencodes them) - »« U+00BB/U+00AB & ›‹ U+203A/U+2039 It might make sense to be able to say something similar to \mainlanguage [german] [quotes | quotationmarks | quotationstyle = guillemots | guillemets or comma | ninesix] 2.) I could imagine a Serbian user to request being able to typeset in two scritpts (Latin or Cyrillic). Dear List, I failed to install ConTeXt. I have no experience with ...-Tex. Is there a description somewhere how to install ConteXt on Mac OS X? Do I really need that very big (~ 1.2 Gb) LaTex (MacTex) to install? And if yes how do I concatenate them? (I've took a look at the unix- script from the minimal Mac OS X Installation Download but did not understand if there have to be a folder called tex in the /usr/local/ directory or if the script do create one?) I do know very few about these things so I'am very greatful for some more detailed hints. thank you very much ole

Hi I'm typesetting a document using the context bib/bibltx modules and the 'ams' style. In the printed bibliography, entries with many authors are converted into: "Hansen et al." as they should, but printed as: "Hansenet al." which looks bad. My output looks much better using the following very simple tweak of the file 'bibl-ams.tex' 99c99 < \c!artauthoretaltext={ {\it et al.\/}}] --- > \c!artauthoretaltext={ {\it\ et al.\/}}] Just wanted to post is in case someone finds this handy. -Peter

Hello, Ligatures seem to be missing when using the ConTeXt minimals distribution (8/8/2007) with the times font (see below example). Note that ligatures are rendered correctly using live.contextgarden.net, so I assume that something needs to be configured on my end. Could someone please be kind enough to tell me what I should configure to get proper ligatures for the times font in the minimals distribution? Hi, I've just looked at three documents from Hans ('mmlexamp.pdf', 'mmlprime.pdf', 'mmoexamp.pdf'), and they all show nice examples of MathML and what you can accomplish using it. However, I wasn't able to find an example of how to actually insert MathML in a Context document. Replace \unexpanded\def\koencoding{\enableencoding[\koreanencoding]} with \unexpanded\def\koencoding{\enableencoding[cjk-uni]} You use a undefined command \koreanecnoding and this will always fail, you should also remove the commented lines at the end of the files and change the file information, subtitle should Korean and not Chinese and you should also change the date. Hello, I'm making progress in using modes - thanks again for the help so far that was given in the "switching to Context" thread. I have followed Thomas Schmitz' practex article and have set up modes for presentation and manuscript. I am using external figures on most of the slides. In presentation mode there is no need for figure captions (the slide heading and my waffling will suffice). In manuscript mode I'd like to have captions to the figures. I know I can disable captions with {none} for each individual figure, but can I do this _just_ for the presentation? I have looked up \setupcaptions but there does not seem to be a "none" option that could be used for this purpose. Thanks, Roger

Hi again, Thank you again everyone for your help. The list is very helpful. I got one last question and then I promise I'll stop spamming the list for a bit. ;-) Oddly enough, the archives are very unclear on this one, and anyway what I try with the little I find doesn't work -- or I don't know how to implement it. But anyway, my problem is the following. When my TOC goes on more than one page, the page header doesn't follow. It becomes what I use much later in my document (namely, chapter number and title, pagenumber, and a thin line across the width of the page), but I don't want that. In fact, I don't want *any* page header for my TOC, but this works only on the first page. No amount of \noheaderandfooterlines, \setuphead[header=nomarking] or \setupbackgrounds[state=stop] can make the header disappear on subsequent TOC pages... :-( What do I have to do? inline-graphics and unwanted line-break

Hi, I have a small metapost graphic I like to use inline. But the arragement behaves a little bit "unpractically". As soon there is no character in front of the graphic context will break the line after the graphic - but as soon there is a character in front of the graphic, context does not adding a linebreak after the graphic. Does anyone know how to prevent the line-break after the graphic if the graphic is the first inline? switching to Context

Hello, I'm thinking of making the switch from latex to context, indeed I'm working on my first non-trivial document as a trial. I have some questions. (1) Is it possible to do conditional compilation? I wish to use context to write lecture notes with embedded pictures. I'd like to compile the document into one form to hand out to the class (or make available on the web) and another to be used as a presentation, much like latex-beamer, with just the pictures. (2) Is it possible to convert context into plain text (i.e. strip out the formatting instructions)? This may seem eccentric but it might, with some programming, offer a means to put document content into a relational database, perhaps in paragraph chunks. Thanks, Roger

Visually replace one character by another one automatically

Hi again everyone! I have a weird question. I sort of want to use ConTeXt to solve some of my typing laziness. :-) I explain. When typing a document, I use the normal single-quote style apostrophe ' (UTF U+0027) - the "straight" apostrophe. When typesetting the document, I want the apostrophe to appear like a comma instead. The character is the single comma quotation mark (UTF U+2019). (As both characters exist with different UTF definition , this is not a font issue.) On my computer (it's a laptop), with my keyboard language settings and all (under Ubuntu), the only apostrophe I can manage to type is the first one. From what I can understand, my French Canadian keyboard layout actually replaces the single quote key with something else more important to us -- the acute accent (no, we don't use the French azerty layout). So right now all I can do is copy-paste the right character from the Character Map... it's a bit impractical and unwieldy in the long run, so this is not a good solution. Furthermore, typing an apostrophe is second nature anyway when you've been typing since childhood -- changing such typing habit is very offputting AND it can create many mistakes. I don't want to think about it. :-) Therefore, I was wondering if there was a way to automatically replace one character with another through some TeX magic! Changing all my apostrophes in the input for single comma quotation mark when the document is compiled. Is this possible? Thanks! Jeff

It basically allows you to several things: 1) convert a date into a number, 2) add and subtract from that number, in essence adding and subtracting days, and 3) converting a date number into a date string. I use this package to create a yearly lesson schedule and various other similiar things. However, I have spent a considerable amount of time trying to find the same functionality in ConTeXt with no avail. Is there a solution for this?

I don't want to force a line break there, but if context needs to break the line, I want it to be after a "//". A contrived example of some input text is: THE QUICK BROWN FOX JUMPED OVER THE LAZY DOG//NOW IS THE TIME FOR ALL GOOD MEN TO COME TO THE AID OF THEIR COUNTRY. When this text is rendered by ConTeXt, and it is too big to fit on a single line, I would like it to break like this: THE QUICK BROWN FOX JUMPED OVER THE LAZY DOG// NOW IS THE TIME FOR ALL GOOD MEN TO COME TO THE AID OF THEIR COUNTRY. I can preprocess the source to change spaces into non-breaking spaces and can replace '//' with anything else that I need to, but don't know how to suggest where to break the line. Font selection in LuaTeX

Dear all, As a heavy Plain TeX user I wish to experiment with LuaTeX. I know this is slightly off-topic to this list, but I see several questions related to LuaTeX user problems here. In message http://www.ntg.nl/pipermail/ntg-context/2007/026365.html Hans Hagen stated that one could also define fonts using a more XeTeX-like syntax like: \font=\test=name:ACaslonPro-Regular:liga=yes; or \font=\test=name:ACaslonPro-Regular*default As I don't use ConTeXt I wanted to give this approach a try (and I assume the =-signs after "\font" are Hans's mistakes, I guess). So I put ACaslonPro-Regular.otf in my /opt/texlive/texmf-local/fonts/opentype directory, did a rehash so the font could be found and tried a test file. Unfortunately, LuaTeX complained it could not find the font metrics. Maybe I need to make an entry in a map file somewhere? I looked through this list, Google, etc., but couldn't find where. Also, the syntax file:ACaslonPro-Regular.otf didn't work. pdfTeX etc. can find font files there, so that should not be the problem. By the way, I tried this using LuaTeX beta-0.11.2 on a Linux system and TeXLive 2007. I know I can use XeTeX, but XeTeX doesn't support character protrusion and several pdfTeX-specific commands, which I really like to use. I hope someone can clarify this to me. Thank you in advance! Dear Saji, You contact the right person, Dohyun Kim. He is one of the expert in KTUG and who write kor-00 module for ConTeXt. Another way for Korean is to use XeTeX+ ConTeXt, then you can use some korean fonts in the system. I think that using the module kor-00 is easier. If there are someone who want to use korean go www.ktug.or.kr and download the font files and module. Just untar the files in the texmf- local directory. It is easy to use. Thank you. Hello ConTeXt Experts! I am looking for a proper ConTeXt of solving a problem I've solved through a hack (my solution is right after the need and problem are stated below). Hi, When I use \setupbodyfont[handwritten] or \setupbodyfont[calligraphic], I get fonts which do not look like handwritten or calligraphic. Other options give consistent results (sans, type, serif etc.). What should I check in order to get those to work? I use a standard Ubuntu 7.10 installation, and never changed anything. defining and expanding in xml

Hi gurus, sorry for this long mail, but this is too difficult for me, and I have to apologize that I can't provide a minimal example. Here's what I want: I have one big xml-file which is my lecture course for the semester. Every single lecture is one section. This xml-file is processed (needless to say!) with ConTeXt. Every lecture is accompanied by a presentation, written in and processed by ConTeXt. The TeX files and the resulting pdfs are named by their dates, such as 07_11_23.pdf for today's lecture. I have defined a simple counter that will typeset a number in red at every place in the lecture where I show a new slide (and then increment the counter); here are the relevant definitions: \definelabel[SlideNumber][headstyle=normal,way=bytext] \define\SLN{\color[red]{[\nextSlideNumber]}} \defineXMLcommand[sln]{\sln} What I want: I would like to produce a "handout" of the lecture course which would include the slides at the relevant places. My idea was that everything is basically in place. I would simply need to define a "handout" mode which would redefine this \sln command and use the SlideNumber counter to insert the relevant pages from the presentation pdf. But I can't get it to work. Here's what I've tried: 1. the value of the \SlideNumber counter should be \currentSlideNumber, so basically I would like something along these lines: \define\sln {\externalfigure[presentations/07_11_23.pdf][page= \currentSlideNumber]\incrementSlideNumber} But this throws an error: ! In TeX, I would simply write someting like \let\CurrentPresentation=07_11_23.pdf into my file and then refer to \CurrentPresentation. But how do I do this in XML? I was thinking something along the lines <section Current="07_11_23.pdf"> but am at a loss as to how to pick up this value later. sorting bug in mkiv

Hi, I found a bug in the mkiv code with the \definsorting macros. When I try to output the sorted list with \placelistofsorts ConTeXt give me only the name of the sort list but not the list entries. \definesorting[test][tests] \starttext \test[One]{one} \test[Two]{Two} \test[Three]{3} text \One\ text \Two\ text \Three\ text \placelistoftests \stoptext This bug did also appear with the synonym mechanism. The old mkii code works as expected but I found a interestins side effect of the old mechanism. I use MiKTeX's package manager to install updates on linux TeXLive. I put mpm in /opt/miktex/bin, which causes kpse.rb to deduce that distribution=miktex (rather than web2c). Hello, Thank you all very much. I'm pleased with number and quality of solutions to my problem. The winner solution is provided by Wolfgang Schuster. Simple \centeredbox{} makes all the magic I need. I was also amazed with quick porting of my Lua code for batch image processing to native TeX script. I'm an imperative programmer to the marrow and never will be able to do such things. Images centered on page

Hello, How can I center the image on a page? I want images to cover the page completely, and since they have proper size (roughly A4), I only need them to be centered. Now they are stuck to the top, leaving a gap on bottom (and same for left-right). I have the following script (note my Lua trick to process images in a batch). referencing footnotes in another place

Hi to all, the only thing I don't like in -TeX packages approach while writing is that I have to attach the footnotes to their indices. ConTeXt is so clever. Isn't there a way to store the footnotes in another place of the file (or in another file, that's the same) and referring to the in the text. When I have many footnotes in the source I get crazy to follow the body text. Hello, I'm using ConTeXt as part of an XML->PDF workflow that is heavy on tables. The XML table model allows cells to span rows and columns. While ConTeXt has handled row/column spanning perfectly up to this point, I believe I have found an issue. When an entry that spans multiple rows is on the split point between pages, you get ragged entries on the page boundaries. But the document http://www.pragma-ade.com/general/manuals/ex-gui.pdf is not uptodate because I don't find the "exampler" ruby script. It's not the file date which matters, but the version (pdfTeX --version). Wiki claims that some things have changed in pdfTeX 1.30, and MikTeX site claims that MikTeX 2.5 uses 1.30.6, so theoretically it should work, but who knows. Also: "The availability of MiKTeX 2.5 ends some time in the not so distant future: as of a fixed date it will not be possible to install packages from the remote package repository." > If I right, metapost is using the same mechanism as lilypond. I have no MikTeX here at the moment, so I cannot try, but on a completely unrelated subject: I remember that while I was stil trying to enable that module on windows (at the time when it came to existance), lilypond didn't run properly unless called with full path (i.e.: one had to call C:\programs\lilypond\bin\lilypond.exe, since calling only "lilypond" didn't work). Lilypond developers said that they didn't know how to fix that, but I hope that it has been resolved in the meantime. Mojca

Context Minimal for Windows installer

Hello, I appreciate your efforts of creating "context-setup-mswin", but I always had my own way of setting up Context. Today I created full-weight InnoSetup installer. My installer is native Windows application. It fetches files from contextgarden using rsync, then sets variables directly in registry, making Context binaries Windows-wide functional. (Call texexec from any application without need of setuptex.bat file). http://rapidshare.com/files/70450795/ContextMinimalSetup.exe I have tested it only with Luatex engine, but other may work as well. Hi, I need some help for shorten the TeX code in the following example: My footnotes are defined like this: \def\setnotebodyfont {\let\setnotebodyfont\relax \restoreglobalbodyfont \switchtobodyfont[rm,9pt]\setupinterlinespace[line=9.8pt] \parskip2pt} But sometimes at single pages I need to shrink footnote's setupinterlinespace and parskip a bit. To adjust the percentage of shrinking (setupinterlinespace[line= \dimexpr(9.8\MyFaktor)]\parskip\dimexpr(2\MyFaktor)}) I use the following: \newdimen\MyFaktor \MyFaktor=0.978pt [Normal body-text ...] \def\setnotebodyfont {\let\setnotebodyfont\relax \restoreglobalbodyfont \switchtobodyfont[rm,9pt]\setupinterlinespace[line=\dimexpr(9.8 \MyFaktor)]\parskip\dimexpr(2\MyFaktor)} [...] Text with footnotes [...] \def\setnotebodyfont {\let\setnotebodyfont\relax \restoreglobalbodyfont \switchtobodyfont[rm,9pt]\setupinterlinespace[line=9.8pt] \parskip2pt} [...] This works great, but looks ugly and not clear at all!! (It might be good idea, but I stuck with difficulties here). After setup, the installer prompts the user to build format files manually. User is free to use any engine; I only tested it for Luatex, as the most progressive one. And a thing I must notice -- sorry, it cannot be installed along with Miktex or TeXLive, because environment vars will clash. It's inevitable; if you want to use them in parallel, use Context in old way. This installer is for clean machines only. But there is good news also. Hi, TeX fonts have the known convention for -, -- and ---. How would be the proper way to get those characters in Context? Should I use Unicode characters? I know that, at least in my instalation, -- and --- work as in TeX, but I would like to know if Context has a different standard way to do that. Thanks, Maurício

The win32 package is intended for texlive or a similar web2c-based installation, and has been tested only with TeXLive 2007. These executables will *not* work for miktex, sorry. Of course, we welcome any comments (either good or bad) that you may have. Simply replying to this message is fine, but see the bottom of the message for a more formal way to report bugs and feature requests. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- What is new in version 1.001: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- * The default cmyk 'black' color now uses only black, not all four ink colors (after a discussion on the mailing list). * Some issues were reported with the new turningnumber algorithm, all known problems are now fixed. * Gábor Braun discovered that mpost did not always download the font encodings into all the created output files. * Akira Kakuto and Hartmut Henkel found some small issues in mpto regarding trailing and leading whitespace. * A fix for the 'Helvetica' entries in trfonts.map was provided by Werner Lemberg, and Michail Vidiassov supplied two extra font entries for troff.map (Symbol and ZapfDingbats). Dear gang, This has bugged me for years but I never said anything since the workaround is so easy. OTOH I am working on something I'd like to share with others and an official solution would be better: \starttext \input knuth \startquotation \input knuth \stopquotation \input knuth \stoptext I. \start-\stopquotation surrounds the block quote in double-quotes marks. I don't know about other European languages but in English this is redundant; I've hardly ever seen block quotes use dbl-quote marks. We at least need a setup option to turn this off. II. There should be some default whitespace between the block quote and the surrounding text, just as \start-stopitemize has. Or at least this should be configurable in the setups. If these two are already there (not in the manual) then please let us know how to set this up. Otherwise could you add configuration options for this?
