Dear All, Hello, I am trying to use Persian digits in math formulas. My document reads: \font\4 = {name:dejavusans} at 10pt \font\5 = {name:dejavusans} at 7pt \font\6 = {name:dejavusans} at 5pt \textfont4=\4 \scriptfont4=\5 \scriptscriptfont4=\6 \Umathcode`3="1"4`۳ \definefontfeature [persian] [arabic] \mainlanguage[pe] \starttext \definedfont[dejavusans*persian] \setupalign[r2l] این یک آزمایش است. 3+2=5 $3+2=5$ \setupalign[l2r] This is a test. 3+2=5 $3+2=5$ \stoptext However in the output the replaced digit "3" disappears. Dear all, I switched from context: TexLive 2012 to context:TextLive 2013. All figures in my text, placed like the following example: \placefigure[none,left]{}{\externalfigure[c:/context/tekeningen/hemelbol.pdf][height=6cm]} are placed in the middle of the page, and the text is not wrapped around the figure. I tried also the "2*line" option, without succes. Does there exist a list of differences between context:TexLive 2012 and TexLive 2013 ? I appreciate any help. Cheerio, Wim W. Wilhelm

Hi Mari, I cannot help you with your particular problem other than suggesting to give TeXShop a try. I have used it for many years and it has never given me any problem whatsoever. Hi everyone, in my quest to generate tagged pdf's that meet nowaday's accessibility requirements (it seems to me that tags are the major hurdle when using tex), I came around context. There is a very interesting article on how to generate tagged pdf's with context mkiv. http://www.tug.org/TUGboat/tb31-3/tb99hagen.pdf A quick sample run of the examples shown in the above pdf with context however doesn't yield a nice result. Checking with the pdf accessibility checker http://www.access-for-all.ch/en/pdf-lab/pdf-accessibility-checker-pac.html for example, the generated pdf fails completely and is not considered to be tagged. Could someone point me in the right direction? Is there any kind of tutorial or minimal example from where I could work on? Are there any (hidden) options that need to be set in order to activate tagging support? kind regards

Hi, after a long time I'm playing with ConTeXt again… Current beta MkIV seems to have a bug in the Lua function io.lines: for myline in io.lines(myfile) do logs.report(myline) end "myfile" just contains one line with a number, without return/newline. slow compilation?

Dear list, although I cannot find it now, I sent a message to the list describing that I suspected ConTeXt wasn’t as fast as it should on my computer. Wrong font size in footer

Hi, There is bug in which the font style of the page leaks into the footer style. Part numbers

Hi all, I have a document with parts and chapters. I'd like to number the chapters continuously through the whole document. Figured out this has to be done with \definestructureresetset instead of the resetnumber=no option in \setuphead. But I don't want to include the number of the part in chapters and sections. How do I do that? Hyphen as separator for formulas

Hello everyone, I am using mkiv, and my qestion is: Is it possible to have a hyphen instead of a dot as a separator for formula references? I can achieve it by using \definestructureseparatorset[default][][-] but this changes all separators in my document (including section headers etc.). The command isn't referenced in the wiki, so I am at a loss if this is even possible, and how to achieve it. And \setupformulas[separator={-}] seems to have no effect at all. Thanks in advance!

Minor date formatting issue

Hello, all-- I am experimenting with the \currentdate command. I am finding that \currentdate [weekday,{,~},month,day+,{,~},year] which should work according to the Wiki, produces: Thursday, Augustday+, 2013 This command: \currentdate [weekday,{,~},month,day,{,~},year] works as expected. I also tried \date [][weekday,{,~},month,day+,{,~},year] but that produced the same result as above. I have a recent stable release of the standalone ConTeXt package from the Garden. Is there a new way to format a date with an ordinal indicator (-st, -nd, -rd, -th), or is that just not working at the moment? Please advise. -- Matt Gushee

ConTeXt, XeTeX, special effects in Indic font for Kannada

On my Mac (Mountain Lion) I would like to use ConTeXt with a complex OpenType font named Kedage for the Indian language Kannada, and I thought that I could do this using XeTeX (because LuaTeX seems unable to handle Indic fonts at present). This freely available font (found on Linux systems, for instance) comes in four files: Kedage-n.TTF, Kedage-b.TTF, Kedage-i.TTF, Kedage-t.TTF (normal, bold, italic and bolditalic, respectively). I have been partly successful with the simple command \definefontsynonym[kan][name:Kedage] and then using \definedfont[kan] where I want to have the font in the text. Also \font\kannada="Kedage" (and \kannada later in the text) seems to work well without any further indications of language, script etc. However, I would also like to use the bold, italic and bolditalic forms of the font. Simply using \bold and \em does not work. Here I see two possibilities: (1) use the XeTeX parameters FakeSlant and FakeBold, which I have done in LaTeX. But I do not know how this is done in ConTeXt. (2) use the other font files (Kedage-b.TTF etc.), and again I do not know how to do this. Can anybody help me out, either way? (I have attached a sample.) Robert

Dear list, I have the following sample: \starttext \startbuffer[testbuffer] \setuppapersize[A7] \usemodule[simplefonts][size=10.5pt] \setmainfont[TeX Gyre Pagella] \starttext This isn’t \TeX\ Gyre Pagella. \stoptext \stopbuffer \typesetbuffer[testbuffer] \stoptext Only with decimal font sizes, simplefonts (and probably the standard font mechanism [which I don’t know how to use it]) isn’t able to select the font in the buffer. unwanted extra interline space in typing environment

Dear list, I have a document (http://ediciones-criticas.tk/pdf/criticas-context.pdf) which is shows a weird issue: some typing lines have an extra interline space added. It can be found on the first code samples on pages 11 and 12 from the above-mentioned document (sorry, but I have no other way to recreate the issue). My configuration is the following: \setuptyping[margin=yes,lines=yes,blank=line,space=on] How can avoid the unwanted extra interline space in the typing environment? Feature-Request: Sort bibliography entries in alphabetical order by the entries' “short” value

Hi, the publication list can be configured with `\setuppublications` to be sorted by cite order (`sorttype=cite`) or the order of the publication entries (`sorttype=bbl`). With the following setup the "short names" of the publication entries are used for cite references: \setuppublications[ criterium=text, sorttype=cite, % <– "short"? refcommand=short, numbering=short, ... ] The short names are set using the `s` attribute: \startpublication[ s={RFC2616}, ... ] ... \stoppublication A cite with this setup would look like "[RFC2616]". In a long bibliography list it is useful if the entries are sorted in alphabetical order by these short names to allow a faster lookup of publications. Currently I'm using the "filter" module and a Tcl script to sort the publication entries ( http://tex.stackexchange.com/q/126939/7074 ), but it might be useful if something like a `sorttype=short` option would be added. The problem is that on my system the Persian part of the output is a set of Persian Isolated characters, but on http://live.contextgarden.net the Persian part does not appear at all. kerning with buggy libertine

Yesterday, before an Update, all worked as expected. \completepublications in component creates wrong hyperlinks

\externalfigure doesn't find mps file in subdirectory

\externalfigure won't find a metapost eps file in a subdirectory, if the mps has the numerical (.1) extension. Here's a minimal example (test.tex): \setupexternalfigures[directory={fig}] \starttext \externalfigure[simple.1] \stoptext where fig/simple.1 is from a simple .mp file that fills a 1-cm box (see below). The resulting test.pdf shows the gray box name : simple.1 file : simple.1 state: unknown Only this combination of circumstances triggers the problem. Giving the full path ("\externalfigure[fig/simple.1]") works fine, as does renaming the file to simple.mps (within the fig/ directory), as does using instead simple-1.pdf (made with mptopdf). Thus, I have several workarounds, but it might be useful to figure out what is not working. I've noticed this problem on and off for a while now, but only now made a minimal example. (Is the path-searching code trying to append extensions and directory prefixes at the same time, and thus not finding the file?) This is with MkIV 2013.05.28 from vanilla TL2013. Hiding \part completely except for in the ToC

Hi everyone, I'm having a little problem and I'm hoping you can help. For my table of contents, I need to group my sections, but I don't want any heads for this in the text. Now, I've been using \part for this but unfortunately I cannot get rid of the empty space it leaves. The only way I've been able to get rid of the empty space is by setting: \setuphead[part][placehead=empty] But then it's not in the ToC either. Alternatively, when setting placehead to any other value, it still leaves an empty line in the text. Is it possible to have both, ie \part's in the ToC without any space taken by it in the text? Passing macro parameters to lua

Hello, good people-- I've encountered what appears to be a bug in either the TeX->Lua interface or the documentation thereof (I have the latest stable ConTeXt standalone from contextgarden.net) I'm trying to create a macro that will insert different text depending on whether one of the arguments is empty or not. My initial test implementation (following the wiki section entitled "Passing arguments and buffers: ConTeXt commands that hook into Lua") looked like this: \startluacode userdata = userdata or {} function userdata.empty_or_not(str) if str == "" or str == nil then context("{\\sc Empty}") else context(str) end end \stopluacode \def\emptyOrNot#1{% \ctxlua{userdata.empty_or_not(#1)}% } \starttext \emptyOrNot{Amazing Text!} \emptyOrNot{} \stoptext This did not work. I determined that even when I passed a non-empty string, the Lua interpreter detected it as nil. It turns out the fix was simple--I had to quote the string, as follows. \def\emptyOrNot#1{% \ctxlua{userdata.empty_or_not("#1")}% } It took me a while to figure that out, though, since the wiki example does not show quotes. -- Matt Gushee

Locating pdf files in the texmf directory structure

This is a trivial appliation for Context, but a useful one. I plan on designed some business cards, but am new to Context. My idea to to have a logo image in the upper left hand corner, with the company name to the right of it. This would be two block elements at the top of the card. In the middle will be the name, and below that the address, tel, etc. -- Regarding the two blocks at the top of the card: Something like the below: logo here Company name here .--------------------------------------. | | | ooooo XYZ Printing Company | | ooooo | This top area is the subject of this mail. | ooooo Card Design & Services | ............................................. | | | | | First_Name Last_Name | All this below the ... line is done. | | | contact information | | | '--------------------------------------' I take this as two blocks aligned horizontally on the 91mm x 55mm card stock. >From my reading the Context options for doing this are: The margins are so small that using \inmarge{\externalfigure[company-logo][width=\marginwidth] } can not work. How to update context modules; thank you, write-up, and a couple of questions

(I use a ubuntu/PPA installation of context and hence don't use first-setup.sh, which would make updating easy). 1. I downloaded the current version of the module (letter; http://modules.contextgarden.net/dl/t-letter-2013.07.31.zip in this case) from http://modules.contextgarden.net/ 2. I already have a personal /home/me/texmf directory (or would have created it). I put the zipped module update in this directory and unzipped it preserving the subdirectory structure. 3. I set the environment variable TEXMFHOME to my personal texmf directory ("export TEXMFHOME=/home/me/texmf") 4. I ran "mtxrun --script update --modules=letter" to tell context where to look for the new version of the letter module. I could now tell from the output that the updated version of the letter module was installed, and I also confirmed from the log file: resolvers > modules > 'letter' is loaded interface > macros > processed mkvi file '/home/me/texmf/tex/context/third/letter/base/s-cor-01.mkvi', delta 36 interface > macros > processed mkvi file '/home/me/texmf/tex/context/third/letter/base/s-cor-01.mkvi', delta 0 (before the update, the lines above read /usr/share/texmf... instead of /home/me/texmf...) I hope that this write-up is helpful to others. Please feel free to comment or amend if I've misunderstood. I have several questions: (1) Is it possible to tell which version of a module is installed, i.e., that I am using the 2013.07.31 version of letter? (The version of context appears in the log file but not the version of the module.) (2) After I update of the entire context installation, how will I tell context to again use the /usr/share/texmf version instead of the personal version? (3) Could I have done this installation into /usr/share/texmf and used "sudo mtxrun..." to make the updated module work on a multi-user system? (4) Where can I put personal files that I would like context to use regularly. For example I have three personal files: "env_letter.tex" which I include with "\environment env_letter"; a pdf file with my logo; and a pdf file with a scan of my signature. Is there a standard directory to hold such files, and how do I let context know where to find them, for example, with mtxrun? I used the \startfiguretext macro to place a logo in the top left and company name to the right of it. This works well. The only problem is a "Figure 1" and "non" show up on the result. The "none" was from the example in the book. But, space is at a premium on a small card and I don't want any taken up by blank lines where an annotation might be like "none". How can I keep the below the image text and their text space from being used?

I have a question about how to update context modules. In earlier correspondence Question: I am still having a problem with...[the letter module] Answer: This is now fixed... I use a context installation managed by ubuntu/apt-get from the Personal Package Archive *ppa:reviczky/context-daily* ( https://launchpad.net/~reviczky/+archive/context-daily) The current version is: ConTeXt ver: 2013.07.24 14:11 MKIV beta fmt: 2013.7.31 int: english/english How is it possible to (1) tell which version of a module is installed? (2) update a module to the latest version? Because I use the PPA version, I have not used first-setup.sh. I have only a limited understanding of where the context supporting material is maintained. Hello everyone, I found a bug in the current ConTeXt Beta with externalfigure. The following minimal example will show you what happens \starttext \externalfigure[cow] \externalfigure[cow][width=10cm] \page \externalfigure[test] \page This text will appear. This text will not appear. \externalfigure[test][width=10cm] This text will not appear. \stoptext The first two \externalfigure-commands (with cow) will give a grey placeholder with 'state:unknown' in it. The third \externalfigure-command (\externalfigure[test]) will work, and the last one won't. In this example, you will get an empty third page and the text after the \externalfigure-command doesn't appear in the pdf. 'test' can be a pdf-file or jpeg-file (I only tested whose types of files). Something weird with white color

Hello, The following code does not work, the second white ConTeXt is black !!! \setupbackgrounds[page][background=color,backgroundcolor=blue] \starttext {\rotate[rotation=90]{\definedfont[SansBold at 24pt]\white \ConTeXt}} {\definedfont[SansBold at 16pt] \white ConTeXt} \stoptext No problem if we replace white with red (or other color) in \definedfont[SansBold at 16pt] \red ConTeXt and no problem if we write \white\rotate[rotation=90]{\definedfont[SansBold at 24pt]\ConTeXt} I compile with TeXlive2013. Math accents set too close to capital

Hello all, I'm trying to typeset 'H' with a circumflex (or hat) in math mode, but the result is rather ugly when not using latin-modern. I've tried to redefine the \hat macro to move the accent up a bit using \topaccent: is this the best approach? Having to nest '$' does not seem right at all. (Also, for some reason although I find \mathhat in enco-ini.mkiv, when I try to use it I get undefined control sequence.) Path problems w/ MkIV on Arch Linux

Hello, Folks-- Once again I'm returning to ConTeXt after a long absence [maybe if I just kept using it I wouldn't have these problems?]. I'm trying to get started with MkIV; I don't feel a strong need to have the very latest code, so unless there are serious bugs, I want to use the version included with TexLive. At any rate, that's what I currently have and am trying to use. But I am running into issues with files not being found, e.g.: $ context --make mtxrun | unknown script 'context.lua' or 'mtx-context.lua' Yes, I ran mtxrun --generate first, though I am a bit confused as to whether I need to run that *and* luatools --generate, or just one or the other. Anyway, mtxrun --generate appears to work: $ mtxrun --generate .... resolvers | resolving | found configuration file '/usr/share/texmf-dist/web2c/texmfcnf.lua' .... system | lua | compiling '/var/cache/texmf/luatex-cache/context/0399a8df3aef8d154781d0a9c2b8e28d/trees/5044cbe2799fe389b078f26ff6b9ee8e.lua' into '/var/cache/texmf/luatex-cache/context/0399a8df3aef8d154781d0a9c2b8e28d/trees/5044cbe2799fe389b078f26ff6b9ee8e.luc' system | lua | dumping '/var/cache/texmf/luatex-cache/context/0399a8df3aef8d154781d0a9c2b8e28d/trees/5044cbe2799fe389b078f26ff6b9ee8e.lua' into '/var/cache/texmf/luatex-cache/context/0399a8df3aef8d154781d0a9c2b8e28d/trees/5044cbe2799fe389b078f26ff6b9ee8e.luc' stripped resolvers | caching | 'files' compiled to '/var/cache/texmf/luatex-cache/context/0399a8df3aef8d154781d0a9c2b8e28d/trees/5044cbe2799fe389b078f26ff6b9ee8e.luc' This shows that mtxrun finds the correct configuration file--as far as I know, /usr/share/texmf-dist/web2c/texmfcnf.lua is the only instance of texmfcnf.lua on my system. And then it uses the value I have set in texmfcnf.lua to cache its output: TEXMFCACHE = "/var/cache/texmf", -- not used by context at all TEXMFSYSVAR = "$TEXMFCACHE", TEXMFVAR = "$TEXMFCACHE", So that's good. Yet the 'context' and 'luatools' commands can't find the lua scripts. Well, I hypothesized that $LUAINPUTS might be wrong, so I tried this: LUAINPUTS=/usr/share/texmf-dist/scripts/context/lua luatools --generate And it seems to work. At this point let me describe how my system is set up. As I said above, I'm attempting to use the ConTeXt that comes with TexLive. I've just upgraded TeXLive to the 2013 release, but that does not seem to affect these issues. Anyway, the executables are in /usr/bin; /usr/bin/mtxrun is the complete Lua script (i.e. not a symlink or any sort of stub), which appears to be identical to $TEXMF/scripts/context/stubs/unix/mtxrun. /usr/bin/luatools and /usr/bin/context also appear to be copies of their counterparts in the aforementioned stubs directory. The TeXLive packages for Arch provide the following trees: /usr/share/texmf /usr/share/texmf-dist /usr/share/texmf-config Almost everything important is now in /usr/share/texmf-dist, and there are no ConTeXt-related files in /usr/share/texmf. Accordingly, texmf.cnf contains the following definitions: TEXMFDIST = $TEXMFROOT/texmf-dist TEXMFMAIN = $TEXMFDIST TEXMFLOCAL = /usr/local/share/texmf;/usr/share/texmf So I have updated texmfcnf.lua to contain the following: TEXMFDIST = "selfautoparent:texmf-dist", TEXMFMAIN = "$TEXMFDIST", TEXMFLOCAL = "/usr{/local}/share/texmf", I'm not sure if that syntax is correct, but the definition of TEXMFLOCAL does not appear to affect the issues I'm concerned with here. Also, I should mention that my main reason for defining TEXMFLOCAL as I did (as well as TEXMFCACHE = /var/cache/texmf), is that I feel rather strongly (in keeping with what I understand to be 'Linux best practices') that files which are not managed by the Linux package manager should not be under /usr. Hi, hope this is comprehensible without a full example: I want to do some operations on my xml, and that's easier to do in Lua. However, I cannot find how to filter my results and pass them on to a command. In TeX, I would do this: \startxmlsetups xml:a \xmlfilter{#1}{/b/command(xml:command:b)} \stopxmlsetups \startxmlsetups xml:command:b \xmlconcat{#1}{/}\par \stopxmlsetups How would I do the same thing in Lua? Can I use Cambria (or Xits) as a fallback font for missing glyphs. I am using the simplefonts module, but I am happy to write a typescript file if that makes things easier. Change URL color to match layer

I would like to change the color of URL's in parts of a document. In particular I am using the letter module and would like to have the color of URL's match the color of text in the letterhead and then change to match the color in the main body of the letter. Hi, Some questions/remarks about math fences 1. When using \definemathfence[colorbracket][bar][middle=0x7C,color=red, command=yes] \starttext \startformula \colorbracket{\frac {a}{b}\fence a = b}^n \stopformula \stoptext The delimiter is of the wrong color (black instead of red), and the clause after \fence is red. I am doing something wrong or is it a bug. 2. For some types of expressions, for example, probability, the middle delimiter should have the space similar to mathrel, rather than mathord. For example, while typing I often use: \Pr\left( X = \frac {a}{b} \,\middle|\, Y = \frac{c}{d} \right) Would it be worthwhile to add these extra spaces by default (not sure what is the convention in physics/quantum mechanics for bra and ket notation) or as an option. 3. Using backslash in chapter title.

Using MKIV and MyriadProBold for my sanserif font I have the following chapter title: "Can You Type \bye?" which I type as \chapter{Can You type \backslash bye?} The slash appears but a bit low and much too thin. I have tried various games including creating a special font just for this character but nothing changes. the \backslash command seems invulnerable to change. Is there a way in MKIV to express a backslash in another way (bigger and bolder)? John Culleton

OSFONTDIR kills gui fonts.

I am tryihg to follow the wiki on "Fonts in Luatex." It suggests the following statement for Linux systems: export OSFONTDIR="/usr/local/share/fonts;$HOME/.fonts" But I store my fonts in /usr/share/fonts so I used: export OSFONTDIR="/usr/share/fonts" The net effect of this statement was to wipe out all my text fonts used with XFCE4 or KDE, at least when I use my regular user signon. I examined my /etc/profile, $HOME/.profile, @HOME/.bashrc files and deleted or commented out all references to OSFONTDIR. I still have no gui fonts. If anyone has any suggestions on how I can revive my gui fonts that would be welcome. Only my regular user signon is affected, But I really want to know what kind of OSFONTDIR statement I can use that won't wipe out my gui fonts. I can of course move the pertinent fonts to the fonts directories in my /usr/local/texlive etc. file structure. But I am looking for a more general solution. Opening quotes problem with context.

Did a fresh install of context etc. from the context site. I used this test file: ------------------------------- \starttext ``Hello world.'' And ``Goodbye world.'' \stoptext %\bye ----------------------------------------- The resulting pdf shows two left tick marks for opening quotes but the closing quotes are proper curly quotes. If I modify the file as follows: ------------------------------- %\starttext ``Hello world.'' And ``Goodbye world.'' %\stoptext \bye --------------------------- and use luatex or pdftex from texlive the quotes are OK. I got similar results from context in texlive 2012 and texlive 2013. What is the proper code for opening quotes in context? Dear list, I don’t get slanted fonts that I have to fake for a monospaced typeface that lacks an italic font. What is the setting that forces ConTeXt to keep footnotes on the page where they are called? In the following example, \setupinteraction[state=start] \setupnotation[footnote][interaction=yes,way=bytext] \setupnotation[footnote][split=verystrict] \starttext \dorecurse{50}{some text\footnote{a footnote} } \stoptext the call for note 42 and the note itself are on different pages. I have read in several places that the commands \doublehyphendemerits and \finalhyphendemerits are not a "real" way of dealing with the design issue of too many hyphens in a row and/or avoiding a hyphen at the end of a page. I have found that \doublehyphendemerits just avoids TWO hyphens in a row, but not three or four, etc., and \finalhyphendemerits just doesn't work. I have read the code, the wiki, the mail list, and the manuals, but with no success yet. I'm Colombian, so, I design books mainly in spanish, and in spanish editions is a very common rule to avoid more than 2 hyphens in a row. I understand that there are similar rules in french, and I have read some discussions about it, but mostly the thread finishes with something similar to "use ragged right align and forget hyphens" (see http://www.mail-archive.com/ntg-context@ntg.nl/msg68899.html) So, questions are: 1. Is there any definitive way of avoiding 2 or more hyphens on a row AND hyphens at the end of a page? 2. If is not, and it seems that is not (see http://latex-community.org/know-how/latex/55-latex-general/475-e-tex#line-b…) how do you manage? Do you just let hyphens be? Do you avoid hyphens using \unhyphenated or \mbox by hand? No problem, if it's the standard solution, but I think there should be some mechanism to avoid (n+) hyphens on a row, something like \maxadjhyphens[2]. Is this impossible / too difficult? If it is, I'm sorry for bothering you. I just really want to work with ConTeXt. I have done a couple books for myself, to learn, but I want to take this into production, and this single issue, so insignificant you may see it, is very important for me, and I'm sure that other designers would find it very important too. INstalling the context version of TeX distro.

Normally I just use TeXlive as my TeX distro for Context as well as everything else. However I thought I would play with the Context version for educational purposes. It is perhaps more up to date than TeXlive 2013. I downloaded the zip file and unzipped it. Now what? Also I copied the zip file to my Windows partition (currently XP but I can up it to Win 7 if desirable for Context. I have both XP and Win 7 install disks.) Again I need install directions. If there is an up-to-date guide to this process just give me its name. vertical bar spacing in Antykwa-Poltawskiego

I am using Antykwa-Poltawskiego to set a French text that includes ancient Greek. In the Greek text, there is a vertical bar (to mark the end of a column). The custom is to set the spacing about the bar so that (a) when the bar is inside a word, the bar appears as a normal character (b) when the bar is between words, the bar has an emspace on either side. The problem is that Antykwa-Poltawskiego defines the vertical bar with spaces on either side. Is there a way to adjust this so that the vertical bar appears as it should in Greek text—and to do this without clobbering the French punctuation or getting weird effects when the bar is at the end of a line? For instance, is there a way to combine rules for character spacing so that the second overrules the first only when they are in conflict? Alan

I could join them now with "\testpage[2]", but is there another way, without counting lines? And without invisible frames? Just like an automatic "testpage", which knows how many lines it must have. problem with setuptex

Hi all, especially Mojca, I guess, I have a somewhat bizarre problem with the setuptex script under the latest Fedora and zsh (version 5.02). Here's what happens: source ~/context/tex/setuptex "/mnt/shared/context/tex" is not a valid TEXROOT path. (There is no file "/mnt/shared/context/tex/texmf/tex/plain/base/plain.tex") provide a proper tex root (like '. setuptex /something/tex') The script works under bash; the error under Fedora is the same on two different computers, but I don't know if any other linux distribution has the same version of zsh. Can anyone else test and see if they have similar problems with zsh? All best Thomas

still a bug with compressed linenotes and no compressseparator

Dear Hans, many thanks for the latest beta, that fixes the line range numbering. I’m afraid there are still two issues with compressed linenotes when the compressseparator is missing. Having linenotes from the same line separated with only blank space is a standard practice in critical editions. I’m not a philologist and I don’t have access to a library on a regular basis. If samples from http://context.aanhet.net/epen2007/share/idris/cr-apparatus.pdf are allowed, from three possible examples, figures 4.2 and 4.4 only include blank space as separator for “compressed” linenotes and figure 4.6 includes a separator (||). This default is buggy when the compressed linenote starts at the beginning of the line (as it is the case on lines 4-9 in the apparatus). But even with linenotes starting at other places in the critical apparatus, there is another issue: compressed linenotes have more blank space before than uncompressed ones. I think this might be visually misleading in some cases. I think there is a simple way to solve both issues: if compressseparator is set to none, the space after should be removed in all cases. revert to an older install not working?

Dear list, after the missing file in the latest beta, I wanted to revert the installation back to previous beta (2013.07.14). I tried it with the following command: ./first-setup.sh --context=2013.07.14 But it gives the following error: rsync: change_dir "/current/context/2013.07.14" (in minimals) failed: No such file or directory (2) Am I missing something or revert to an older install is disabled? Installing context on a web server

Hello, I am using Context to produce PDF out of a website. It works well on my local machine, but I can't seem to install Context system-wise on my server. I first installed Context as a single-user on the server with first-setup.sh. Then I realized I needed Context to be accessed by any user. So I tried to run first-setup.sh in /opt/context as root. Short notice: Gentium in distribution

Hi, Gentium fonts have been updated recently, but I forgot to fix the scripts in distribution (arghhhh, CTAN now prevents TDS, so it took me a while to reconstruct it) and today's updates deleted the old fonts. weird interaction in linenotes command (again)

Dear list, sorry for posting this again, but I don’t know how to solve this issue and I really need your help. The cause of this is the \increment command within \Variant. I don’t know why this happens, but the increment is required by \Variant to make sense at all. I guess this might be a bug. I am still having a problem with left-justifying the date: \setupletterlayer[reference][alternative=c] does not properly left-justify the date; the date is towards the left but is aligned several mm to the right of the other text. (This was true on the mwe that Wolfgang sent.) BTW are the values for the "alternative" key (example, e, c, etc.) documented somewhere? Thank you again. The question is: How to achieve same distances between every normal text (set on the grid) and the "elements" (not set on the grid)? It is clear that not all before-distances and all after-distances respectivley can be the same simulatously, thats trivial. But at least all before-distances (so the distance between the text and the elements, in this order!) should be the same in the complete book. How to?

Linecorrection and distances

I use grid-setting, but have elements, which should not be set on the grid (because it is impossible, because of different interlinespaces, bigger fonts, or whatever). For these elements I use \startlinecorrection Elements \stoplinecorrection After these elements the normal text is continued, set on the grid again. That is all working and fine. But: The distances between these "\startlinecorrection Elements \stoplinecorrection" blocks and the text (both distances, before and after) are not always the same, they seem to be random. How to correct that without inserting "\vksip+-Xpt" manually before/after the linecorrected blocks? For testing: \showgrid \setuplayout[grid=yes] \definefont[big][name:Arial at 25 pt] \def\kurztext{Dies ist ein kurzer Text. Die anderen Standardtexte sind deutlich zu lang.} \starttext \kurztext \startlinecorrection \big \kurztext Und noch Zusatztext. \stoplinecorrection \kurztext \startlinecorrection \big \kurztext \stoplinecorrection \kurztext \stoptext In the above example you can see it, the distances between the grid set and the not grid set text are different. Problems with bibtex in current beta

Hi all, I've got still problems with the latest beta. I used first_setup.sh to setup my basic environment, and then I replaced the slightly older beta, as Marco suggested, with the current version from http://pragma-ade.com/context/beta/cont-tmf.zip. Now, if I try to build my doc, no bibtex is generated. I use the following bibtex setup: \setupheadtext [de][pubs=Literaturverzeichnis] \setuppublications[numbering=no, alternative=apa-de, refcommand=authoryears, autohang=no, criterium=cite, sorttype=bbl] \setuppublicationlist[style={}, after={\blank}, criterium=text] \setupbibtex[database={papers,books,articles,reports,urls}, sort=author] To make sure, none of my libraries contains an error, I also replaced them with sample.bib file from the wiki. \setupbibtex[database={sample}, sort=author] During the tests I always removed all generated bibtex artifacts. But I still end up with a main.blg file saying: This is BibTeX, Version 0.99d (TeX Live 2013) Capacity: max_strings=150000, hash_size=150000, hash_prime=127507 The top-level auxiliary file: main.aux I couldn't open style file cont-au.bst ---line 2 of file main.aux : \bibstyle{cont-au : } I'm skipping whatever remains of this command I found no style file---while reading file main.aux You've used 0 entries, 0 wiz_defined-function locations, 85 strings with 495 characters, and the built_in function-call counts, 0 in all, are: … The main.aux contains \citation{*} \bibstyle{cont-au} \bibdata{sample} and the main.bbl stays empty. I just don't get it, this did work and I even tried to compile a known working version. Do I have to initialize bibtex somehow? Thanks for any suggestions! Steffen

Hi, I uploaded a beta. There are not that many changes. Currently I develop in a separate branch but it might be that some changes are reflected in the betas, and hopefully not breaking anything.
